Gardenia 16, La Caldera, Firgas, Canary Islands, Spain

"I have visited this hotel on a few occasions, including for a full day Wedding! Rooms: The rooms, which all offer a "Suite" kind of setup are absolutely fantastic. WE had a lovelyl room with modern bathroom containing shower and jacuuzi bath, with the bedroom having a beautiful four-poster bed. Toilitieres tea and coffee were all provided as you would expect. There was also a flat-screen TV although we rarely used it. Restaurant: Breakfast at the restaurant is continental and while inherently basic by nature, is all warm and fresh. Perfect before we set off for the day! The evening meals at the restaurant are absolutely stunning and the service is friendly, personal and efficient. Even if you are not staying at the hotel I highly reccomend this place to eat! Location: We were aware that this was a rural hotel and in being so has some spectacular views from across the location. You can go in to the main building and on to the second floor there is open air balconys where you can take them in, and even see Tenerife!! The surrounding hills are fantastic and you can't believe they are so green with such warm weather! We did rent a car when we stayed at the hotel which allowed us to drive down to the small town of Arucas to see the magnificent Church and take a look in some local shops. About a 15 min drive from the hotel you can find Las Palmas which has a great beach a few Km's long, as well as shopping malls etc. We did have taxis organised sometimes, but for us personally we would rent a car again when we revisit. All in all this hotel does exactly what it says on the tin and more, and if you are looking for a rural holiday this cant be beaten! As I mentioned we also visited this place for a wedding where the staff could not do enough for you, and the ample room across both floors in the main building made for a lovely setting!"
"We booked Hotel Melva Suite as we were looking for a small hotel with restaurant that had other local attractions near by. Firstly, we discovered that as it was the quiet season the restaurant and bar were closed. In fact, after breakfast in the morning we didn't actually see any staff about, with the whole complex closed up on our return each late afternoon. We only ever saw anyone in reception on the day of our arrival. The website mentions two restaurants about 5 minutes walk down the hill. They served pretty much the same menu, which is fine if you like Canarian potatoes and grilled meats. Both are very popular with the locals. It's not possible to get breakfast at either, although the hotel website seems to imply you can. The staff in both were friendly but spoke only very broken English. The hotel is in the suburb of La caldera, Firgas itself is about 10 minutes drive away - the description on this site suggests there's lots you can walk to - no you can't unless you like walking on narrow mountain roads with no pavements. There are walks in Firgas, but nothing local to the hotel. As the hotel is about 500m above sea level, it was a few degrees cooler than on the coast, the weather was damp while we were there and the hotel was often in the clouds. When clear, there was a nice view of the hills opposite and Las Palmas in the distance. Our room itself was was very comfortable and well appointed, and very comfortable. However, we found the heating controls a bit random, and seemed to take a long time to heat up. Once on, the room warmed up quickly. As the bar and restaurant were closed for the winter, facilities to make hot drinks would have been appreciated. There was a fridge so recommend taking travel kettle and mugs. The safe did not work and was not fixed during our 7 night stay. Breakfast disappointed. The food was not of particularly high quality. Bread rolls, although freshly cooked that morning were obviously bought in frozen - a basket full of semi defrosted rolls were brought out one morning. Oddly, there was a bowlful of tinned fruit salad each morning. With all the lovely produce on the island, a bowl of freshly prepared fruit salad would have been a nice touch. Orange juice seemed to be of the dilute to taste variety - not terribly nice to drink. Bizarrely, on our last morning there was a tray of sandwiches on offer at breakfast - no doubt leftovers from the previous day's conference! The location of the hotel makes it well situated to explore the north of the island and no doubt when everything is open it is quite a nice place. As the hotel was essentially a B&B with staff absent during the evening and a poor quality breakfast, we were very much overcharged, it was not worth what we had to pay."
"As other reviews have mentioned the rooms have everything you need and ours had fantastic views. The hotel is in a lovely setting and not so far from Firgas and many other villages worth visiting which is why we chose to stay here. The access lane from the main road does have potholes especially as you first turn in but we have experienced just as bad on British main roads. Just needs a bit of care and certainly not a farm track. Excellent parking. There is a security fence around the perimeter but how anyone can describe it as giving a prison appearance baffled us. It is fairly unobtrusive and dwarfed by the lovely scenery all around. The hosts are very friendly and helpful but at times their presence ( or their staff) could have been a bit more obvious. Gave us the feel of a B&B rather than a hotel. There is no swimming pool but the hot tub/jacuzzi provided a nice alternative for a dip and relaxation after a day sight seeing or walking. A full pool would really enhance the hotel. There is a bar (empty)in the main building but drinks seemed to be located in the restaurant building and sometimes a bit difficult to obtain a drink. An honesty bar could be a good idea if the owners don't want to man the bar all the time. Breakfasts were fine though maybe not the sort of choice you are offered at larger hotels but what was there was good. We stayed for dinner and enjoyed the 3 course set menu offering. Good quality and good value. A pity that the restaurant was closed on Sunday evening but the restaurants just down the road, while maybe not looking great from outside provided excellent service and food -mainly charcoal grilled meats. As others have summarised - could be excellent with a few improvements."

Carretera de Arucas a Bañaderos, km. 1, Arucas, Canary Islands, Spain

"This hotel is a mixed bag of good and bad. The photos are accurate and the buildings and surroundings are stunning. The hotel sits within a banana plantation and has views of the surrounding mountains and sea. It’s a stunning location and setting, sadly there are a few things that need serious attention. The positives: Location is great being 30 minutes from the airport, in the peaceful countryside and with Arucas only 5 mins drive away. The building is just wonderful, showing off the old building styles of the Spain and making use of this site which clearly was a farm for many years. It is now a banana plantation and in almost every direction you are surrounded by the plants. The pool area is very pleasant and offers enough sun and shade to relax and enjoy the warmer days. Jose was very useful and helpful to us when we had a problem and needed to change rooms. He was understanding and accommodating, resolving our issue quickly. Cleaning staff were very friendly each time we saw them always greeting us kindly. The evening meals were tasty and well priced, being competitive with the local restaurants in price and quality. The negatives: Other than Jose, the two ladies who were in reception when we checked in and also at all other times appeared bored with their jobs. They weren’t friendly at all, when we checked in we were ordered to read the instructions given in an envelope to us as other guests had complained and didn’t read the instructions. She was authoritative and very officious. This really didn’t help with making us feel welcome. The breakfast staff is just one lady, who is very young, not unpleasant however never any offer to make a coffee for guests or any kind of interaction. The rooms downstairs have a serious noise issue, we had to change rooms as we simply couldn’t sleep in our first room on the ground floor. The noise from both above and to each side was very disturbing at night time. We couldn’t sleep well at all, in addition a lovely fountain runs outside the rooms, this is great during the day, however it only turns off around 2am and so keeps you awake. The beds differ in firmness, our first room had a bed that felt very old and soft, our second room had a much better bed with firm mattress. The TV in the room has limited channels and the screen is often fuzzy. WiFi, there is only free wifi in the reception area and a lounge area. You can get it in your rooms however it’s a 6 Euro charge per device for 24 hours. When you have spent 100 Euro’s a night for the hotel wifi in the room should be included, especially in 2018! Pool area is a nice size, and the pool water itself was cleaned daily. The area around the pool was not swept all week, there is a problem with flies too, I believe due to the banana farm so cannot be helped, but they were annoying! The working farm had a tractor which sat with it’s engine running for an hour next to the pool, again it’s a working farm but it’s rather annoying when you are try"
"The hotel was rustic and full of character set in the middle of a banana plantation. If you are looking for something unique and different this is perfect. We had a very large comfortable bedroom and there were lots of nice outdoor seating places. Great pool and characterful spa area set in a stone barn. The location was great to visit the north of the island and walking distance to the town of Arucas which we loved...... visit the fab church which is beautiful. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we generally found the people in the north of the island this way. Only constructive comments would be the signage for the hotel on arrival in the dark was poor and as we stayed in January it was cold in the mornings and evening. Fabulous salon had a huge fireplace which if a fire was lit in the evenings would have been more cosy and inviting to take a drink in there. I know it was suggested that we could request it to be lit but shouldn’t have to ask....it did open onto the restaurant too so think the hotel are missing an income here? However all positive from us thank you Hacienda staff"
"We spent three nights here in May 2019. The hotel is a bit of a drive out of Aurcas and you would really need a car. It is located in a very peaceful setting in a banana plantation and it is extremely quiet at night. Rooms were colonial style and while nice, were quite tired. Estephania (?) at reception was lovely and really couldn’t do enough for us but other staff had less English and were less friendly. Breakfast was ok but not great."

"Booked this place last minute, so glad I did the house is beautiful. Rooms comfortable and clean. Rooftop terrace is fab you can sit and chill out with some great people I was made to feel very welcome by Johnny and his guests which was good as I was on my own. This is situated literally 5 minutes from the square with bars shops and the cathedral all lovely.... I had a ball going back later in the year if it's not fully booked."
"We were there for a week, the location of the house is absolutely unbeatable we couldn’t choose from the cool coffe shops all around. Pretty much a hipster quarter. The staff was incredibly nice and the vibe couldn’t get any better. Silvia and Per helped us with our car rental and gave us some insider tips. loved it, recommended "

"This is a great, very comfortable hotel, in quiet surroundings, but at easy travelling distance from the airport and other major sites on Gran Canaria. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, rooms nice and large, comfortable beds, excellent bathrooms and a very good breakfast. One good indication of breakfast quality is proper freshly squeezed orange juice - which they have. The restaurant is also extremely good, with local cuisine, well executed. We could not have selected a better stay for our last night in the Canary Islands, before going to the airport in the morning."
"We stayed here for three nights before moving to a large resort in the South. All in all this hotel was fantastic! It's a bit off the beaten track, but gives good access to Las Palmas and other northern towns. Staff were great, always friendly and genuinely wanting to help. Room was amazing, spotless and full of natural light. Loads of natural wood enhanced the authentic feel to the place. We had breakfast included and it was really good. Great choice and loads for everyone. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a boutique option at a great price!"
"The hospitality and warmth of the owners is second to none! The food and their own wine is exceptional! Wanted somewhere warm but away from the masses as a rural retreat. Great room, spotlessly clean, great breakfast and good walks, easy access to the sights of the island. Must visit as close to Arucas, Teror, Agaete, all well worth a visit if you want to get off the beaten track. "

"The hotel's external customs are very shabby, but were pleasantly surprised after entering, they are all newly renovated! And the service is very attentive, the room can be called meal recommended sandwiches and cod fries! It's delicious!"
"The room was clean and the view to the sea was wide on all sides. In addition, the hotel is in a good location, and it is very convenient to travel. It takes 2 minutes to walk by bus, taxis, and airport bus stops. Recommended!"

"I chose this hotel because it has good reviews, good price and nice location. But I got somehow very disapointed. first they do not answer on any questions if you book by ar portal like Booking ot Hotels. The reception was cold and mechanic and talked very rude in the phone to guests. 2 different persons stayed in the room next to me, I also chose this hotel because they have a no smoking policy, but both times the guest was smoking and I have to complain over 3 times and got the answer the first time that I could just get another room, they could not do anything? There is a lot of noice from the street if you have sea view and we staid on the 6th. floor. also the WiFi do not work half the time. For breakfast we have to chose between 3 time slots because of the covid situation, so not to many in the room, but I think that all guests chose our time, because it took almost 25 minuets to get seated, and then you have to stand in line for food and coffee for at leats 15 minuets more, and the staff do not understand so much english, and some was very rude (I think they were frustrated over the situation). a tip, try to put numbers by the food then it can go faster people cant see all of it and most time goes with pointing 4 or 5 times. I had a nice vacation, but just a bad hotel experience I guess? (sorry the cleaning in the rooms and the cleaning lady was just excellent and the best)"
"Just soent a few days there. Room had the most amazing views on the beach and Las canteras coastline. You are litterally on the beach!20secs walk to the water. Team was incredibly helpful. Allowed late check out, helped me for a print and scan of a document and when queried on internet soeed had their Tech service on the phone within seconds. Huge thanks! Particularly to Lola ;)"
"We would like to thank everyone in this hotel especially the director Mrs Dolores. She was so kind with us and advise us very clearly during the covid 19 situation. All the other employees were very helpful!! I hope we will come back when the situation will be better!! We recommend you this hotel you won't be disappointed!! Dhaya and Yoann"

"Check-in was friendly and welcoming. The IT system was completely new so it took a while to get everything organised but this will most likely change to the better once staff is familiar with it. (Double) Rooms are spacious, cleaning is very good and the beds are super comfortable. Breakfast is surprisingly good for a tourist hotel in Gran Canaria. Fresh food, good variety of dishes, egg dishes can be ordered á la minute and staff continously fill up when anything is running low. Reception and the bar area are extremely uninviting and feel completely sterile with zero charm. However - this is an above average hotel in a very touristic location. "
"The hotel has an excellent breakfast , pool sling Roth a gym. Towels for the beach 200 meters from the hotel front door. Night club open until early . Excellent selection of fresh seafood. Staff extremely friendly good value for money . I am going agin in less than 10 days"
"If you go to Las Palmas this is a perfect situated hotel on the Beach. Choose a room with seaview. Room is Nice in space and clean. The balcony gives you a magnificant view. The breakfast included everything you want, even a glass of cava."

"Having stayed in previous NH Hotels we were impressed with their facilities, modernness and friendly staff and NH Las Palmas Playa Las Canteras did not disappoint. The hotel is a lot smaller than the sister hotel (NH Imperial) which is situated around the corner but this didn’t bother us at all. The rooms and bathrooms were still clean and modern and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The main reception is smaller than other hotels we’ve been in but you don’t spend much time there anyway! Downsides were that when we asked for a kettle they didn’t give us any tea and coffee. But there was a supermarket not far from the hotel so we went to buy some satchets there - it wasn’t a problem at all. The corridors were quite dark compared to other hotels we’ve been in and there were a lot of smokers sat right outside on the hotel doorstep which blocked the path getting in and out. Overall I think it is a great hotel if you don’t expect too much with facilities. If you’re looking for a restaurant, swimming pool, bar etc then this is not the hotel for you but if you’re looking for a well priced, modern hotel that’s situated right on the doorstep of Playa De Las Canteras and restaurants then this could be the right hotel. Thank you to all the staff there that made us feel welcome. Muchas gracias! "
"The hotel is located in a safe zone, steps to bars, restaurants, beach and markets. The people of the staff are friendly, very helpful and professional, they helped us all the time with recommendations, they provided with beach towels, and answered all inquiries all the time with nice manners. Rooms are super clean and comfortable. Breakfast is superb, delicious, abundant, fresh, with wonderful Playa Las Canteras views. Definitely We enjoy our stay!"
"My positive experiences: spacious and clean room, safety box in the room, newly renovated bathroom. I used the hotel gym, which is quite basic with a treadmill, eliptical machine and some barbells. It´s next to the reception so the checking-inn guests can see you. Breakfast at the Imperial hotel 2 minutes away, it´s not a problem for me. You can also take breakfast at a nearby cafe. I parked my rented car in the street, but there´s also a parking house at the Puntilla. 3 minute walk to the bus stop. The sleep quality was not good because of the noisy air-condition and some noise from the strret."

"I’d had breakfast here many a time and sat in the groovy Miami style bar with the in-crowd at sunset on numerous occasions but never had occasion to stay here until now. I always had a hunch that it would be ok, but they deliver in spades! I was at the tail-end of a month long holiday most of which had been spent round the corner, so an early check-in would be appreciated- no problem. Once inside it immediately rocks. Two keys, without asking, even though I’m alone. How often in so called luxury hotels have I had to ask for one even when accompanied. Yes, Hilton Cologne you may well hang your head! In the room, every detail you need. A plug socket everywhere you look. Somewhere to sit, yes. Somewhere to place an item, ditto. Want to hang something? I count 21 hooks and hangers all over the bedroom and bathroom, which both have variable lighting which can be controlled from where you need to do it. Coffee, tea, biscuit? You guessed. Nothing overlooked. Ten out of ten. It’s so simple and yet almost every hotel here gets it horribly wrong."
"We have room 209, a superior with view for €68 a night. We have two entire walls of windows, so the room is light and airy and cool. The location is great, a close walk when we came in by ferry, and the main bus station (to the airport) is like 2 minutes walk. There is a bus stop right outside as well, so you can get around easy. Shops, cafes and bars in the immediate area. The room is good sized with couch, desk, refrigerator and simple storage. Excellent plug situation for charging on desk and by bedsides. Best WiFi of the trip - fast and reliable. Room very clean, tastefully decorated. Bathroom nice with great shower and no leaks. Shampoo and hairdryer. Good bar on top (closed Mondays) and friendly helpful staff with great communication prior to arrival. Great value, we'd stay again."
"This was our first trip to Gran Canaria and we are so glad we made time to visit Las Palmas - a great city, Bed & Chic is a lovely, modern boutique hotel in a great central location (3 mins from the bus station (for airport) and 5 mins from the impressive city beach. Reception staff are friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely corner room on the second floor, large and bright with lots of windows. Bathroom was tiny but clean and functional. There's a lovely roof terrace on the 5th floor. Our only regret was only being able to stay for 2 days! We hope to return soon."
