"We travel to Durango about every 3 months, part business and part get away travel, we had our previous favorite hotels from the ski area properties to those located in town. For the last few visits we have been staying at the Residence Inn, while it’s not the newest hotel in the area we have been very pleasantly surprised with the staff and hotel accommodations. The breakfast is one of the best especially considering that it’s free, they provide fresh cooked eggs versus those that seem as they are from instant or egg substitutes. The fresh fruit is always excellent and not just the typical melon offering. The staff in the breakfast area are great and keep things clean and stocked even during sold out weekends. On our recent visit, we did experience an issue where the air conditioner was not functioning, while the staff did all they could to correct this it was going to require a professional to get it working. The Manager called apologizing that they could not repair the A/C unit and since they were at full occupancy offered to provide fans or other items to make the room more comfortable. The good news is the weather cooled off and with the temperature drop, made the room more comfortable at night. While all of this sounds pretty basic, I travel on business over 150 nights a year and never had the response or accommodations that this Manager offered. Very impressed and will make this our new go to when in the area. If in the area and trying to decide where to stay give this hotel a try, they offer one bedroom suites with kitchenettes which is a great plus. I cannot express enough gratitude to the staff and management."
"Upon entering our room, the toilet seat was left up with poop stains, not off to a great start. Then as I laid in bed, I noticed dried blood on the sheets. I had to clean someone else’s crap and strip sheets within the first ten minutes of my stay. This is just unacceptable! The beds are hard and the rooms are not sound proof at all. When someone closes a door, all the doors in the hallway vibrate and make a clanky noise. It was super uncomfortable staying here. Another horrible thing....I asked one of the maids, corrina, for an extra towel and she had the nerve to tell me to go to the front!! She wasn’t friendly and said she needs to save the towels for her rooms? Wow, ok! I can see why I walked into an unclean with room now with this attitude. Also, if you have pets, avoid this hotel. We were contacted at 7:30pm while at Valentine’s dinner that are pet was barking, to hurry back. As we rushed back to the room, kids were screaming in the hallway and of course the loud doors were all being shut. I could understand contacting us if it was after 10pm and the stupid hotel was better sound proofed. Guess I should of complained all day about loud maids and kids screaming in the hallways since that’s what you do at this hotel. Are you an awards member? Don’t expect an upgrade without a charge! $5 extra a day if you want an upgrade. What’s the point of staying at a Marriott hotel if you don’t get the benefits? I don’t know why this hotel even has the Marriott logo, it’s by far the worst one I’ve stayed at. Sure, the breakfast people are nice, but they also have a tip jar waiting on the counter. Ive never seen that at a free breakfast at a Marriott. Can’t people just be nice because it’s their job? We and lots of our family frequently visit Durango, but we won’t be staying here again! Thank you for ruining our valentines dinner and our stay in Durango. The holiday inn across the street looks so much nicer. Heck, any hotel in Durango is nicer than this crap hole. "
"We stayed here for 5 nights while we explored Durango and the surrounding area. Our room was super comfortable and well equpped - we love Residence Inns. We self catered quite a bit - we were on a long trip and watching our budget. Free breakfast was always good - nice breakfast staff. You can walk into town in less than 10 minutes. I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again."

"There are no words that can describe how amazing the staff is at the DoubleTree Hotel in Durango, Colorado. I booked my stay through the DoubleTree website about two months before our trip. After the reservation was booked, I called the hotel to let them know that this was a very special trip as I was planning to propose to my girlfriend along the river behind the hotel. They gave me the contact information for Jamie Stuntz, who made our trip very special. This trip was my first time visiting Durango; however, my girlfriend had previously visited this hotel on family vacations when she was younger, before it was the DoubleTree when it was the Red Lion Inn. My girlfriend is very close with her parents; however, she does not see them as often as she would like to because they live in Des Moines, and we live in Chicago. To ensure the proposal was extra special, I invited her parents to be there with us. I also hired a photographer for the proposal. This is where Jamie went above and beyond. He worked with my photographer to identify a picturesque location behind the hotel to allow her parents to see the proposal but remain hidden. Jamie also made sure that her parent’s room was in the north wing while our room was in the south wing to minimize the chances of seeing her parents before the proposal. Their room was on the ground floor with the patio, so they could walk out from their room and celebrate with us right away. My girlfriend and I arrived on Tuesday, 10/6/2020, and checked out on Sunday, 10/11/2020. Her parents arrived on Wednesday, 10/7/2020, the day of the proposal, and stayed one night. We arrived after Jamie had left for the evening, but I met with Jamie in the morning. He showed me where the photographer was going to be and where her parent’s room was, so I knew where to ask the question. This helped me relax as much as possible, and just a couple of hours later, I asked the important question……….SHE SAID YES!!! Everyone we interacted with at the hotel was great, including Micki, Elizabeth, and JP. I did not want to be on my phone before the proposal, risking my fiancé overhearing any conversations. Micki spoke with my future mother in law to get an idea of the time they would arrive. Micki also gave me ideas of places to visit in town to keep my fiancé away from the hotel when her parents were scheduled to arrive. On the days following the proposal, we worked with Miki and Elizabeth most frequently. Everyone was friendly and helpful, providing recommendations of restaurants to visit during our stay. There was one minor inconvenience during our stay when the hot water stopped working. I called down to the front desk and spoke to Micki. She let me know that the engineer was checking on the boiler and expected it to be fixed shortly. I hesitated to share this issue; however, I thought it was important to share because Micki called our room back a few minutes later and told us we should have hot water in"
"We have stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 times and always had a good time. Its a very solid option for the area and what you'd expect for the type of hotel it is. Everything is friendly and really much nicer than you'd expect. What was super impressive was how well they took the covid chaos and have streamlined it and created new efficient systems. It is really a sign of good management and staff. The frontline staff have taken the directives and made them work in the real world, that's not always easy to do. It's really exceptional how clean and well run the place feels. The online app request for coffee was answered and delivered in under 5 minutes, you wont get this kind of service at even higher star category hotels, it was really nice. The room is sticker sealed post cleaning, so you know you're the first in, and it felt spotless - tv remote wrapped and all small details paid attention too. Rooms are great, river view side is well worth the cost and higher floors have better views as expected. The Animas Beer Garden on the river is well run and a great place. I hope they keep it open even in the winter, while cold the option would be great. With covid seemingly sticking around, they may want to expand the menu a bit, I am sure return guests would appreciate small changes or a fuller menu. Great place doing a great job during tough times,"
"We decided to stay at Double Tree during our weekend getaway. The price was higher than the surrounding hotels, but the extra cost was worth it. We got a river view room and the view was breathtaking, we had access to the river walk from our balcony. The room was spacious, very clean, the check in and check out process was quick and easy. The hotel and the room were quiet. I was afraid that being close to the highways was going to be a problem but it wasn't at all. We actually walked from our room to the downtown are without any problem. We would definitely stay at this hotel again next time we visit Durango."

"From the time I made a reservation til we left the hotel I was very impressed. The staff is all so welcoming and helpful, the hotel was very clean and spacious. The pool area and drinks kept us plenty entertained while we were resting in the evening before dinner. I love that we were able to walk downtown from the hotel so we didn't have to drive if we didn't want to. There are so many stores and restaurants within walking distance and we tried a different one each day. The breakfast (and breakfast staff) at the hotel exceeded my expectations. The fact that they had gluten and dairy free options sold me right there! The ladies helping out were so kind and friendly and kept the breakfast area clean and tidy. Rosie at the front desk was so helpful and welcoming! We will definitely be staying here again. "
"Arrived on March 5 stayed 3 nights. Room and property were very clean. Breakfast was great, had 2 full time workers in there keeping it straight. Employees were friendly. Great location, 2 minute walk from Main Street. The reason I did not give a 5, and I am not trying to make a political statement because I know this is Colorado, but when I pulled to check into the hotel, there was a guest smoking marijuana on one of the front balconies. Also, a couple times during my stay I could smell smoking marijuana. I know this is a difficult situation for the hotel, but smoking is smoking. Regardless, I would recommend this hotel and stay here again"
"Good location! Can't beat daily walks into Durango... We didn't even use our car. Friendly hotel staff, clean room, reliable internet, nice hot tub for relaxing and good manager cocktail. Would recommend. It's one of those outside entering hotels so if you prefer all rooms to be connected inside, look elsewhere but otherwise, great deal."

"Stayed during Columbus weekend and the hotel seemed busy. Location is great if you are planning on doing things downtown and want to walk every where or be close to the train depot. Price was expensive for what we received and things that were not so great. Ended up with an interior room so there were no windows to let in fresh air. The room got "stuffy" at night even after turning the thermostat down to 65. You could here the unit kick in but very little air movement. There was a portable fan in the closet with a light you could not turn off. There was a window over the door that allowed hallway light in at night and of course, the bed faced the door so the light was annoying. Faucet handle was loose and I tried to tighten the connection under the sink but that didn't do the trick. Bathroom door rarely latched and stayed closed and the tile floor was dirty. We understand the hotel is old and rustic, but strange that in this day and age it still uses metal keys which was a little concerning. Used the two person elevator, interior stairs, and outside stairs over the portico and found that the door never closed and locked on the third floor when coming up the stairs, even late at night. Basically, anyone could enter the 2nd or 3rd floors at night without going by the front desk. This was concerning with the amount of homeless in the area that hang out by the hotel and under the bridge on the riverwalk close by. We were told there was a breakfast and found that the first day. Basically, coffee, tea, and they brought out some breakfast burritos. Nothing special which is understood with COVID. Parking lot is decent but fills up quickly with people coming in with trailers and UTV's that take up several spaces. Overall, it was "ok" but there are plenty of other options that are cheaper than the $211/night that we paid."
"Historic downstairs, helpful staff, good breakfast in a charming corridor. Rooms were pretty successfully updated for modern conveniences, including robes. Elevator was VERY SMALL, but there's not much they can do about that. This is a great place for a night or two and I'd love to try it again when I can use that terrific upper level patio to enjoy the great mountain view!"
"Stayed at the General Palmer Halloween night. It is a nice property if you like historic old hotels, the room was warm and comfortable and the furnishings are all authentic period. The staff was very friendly and the location right on main makes for easy access to restaraunts and night clubs. We would stay here again."

"We were excited to stay here for at couple nights. the Lobby, Bars, Restaurants, and rooms are from a time long gone. The property is well maintain. The front desk staff and wait staff in the dining room need to be properly trained. Our room was small and on the top floor. Even in early March I could not get the room below 70 degrees. Making for restless nights of sleep since we like it cool. In an effort to cool the room we opened the window a good six inches. (no screens) late winter not concerned about flies. Still the room would not get below 65 degree's. It would have been nice if the ceiling light incorporated a fan! That would really help. Most of us will use the in room coffee maker. The hotel instead and I thought this a nice touch had a coffee station on each floor by the elevator, stairs, sitting area. It would have been nicer if they provided those small individual serving of half and half. Instead it was that powder stuff. Oh well I dealt with it anyway. However on the second morning i walk out to the coffee station and not even the powder creamer was present. I am ok with black coffee however for the price we paid I would have like the option to choose. I called the front desk and was told they did not have any and would see what they could do! Yikes I refer back to my comment about staff training. Two hours later when checking out the coffee station was still not set up."
"We arrived in Durango not knowing how long we would stay nor where ... we ended up at the historic Strater Hotel Trust, this hotel is just amazing ! Historic hotel built in 1887 The hotel in itself is just impeccable, the woodwork, the antique decoration, the saloon style, the bars, restaurant... It is simply perfection ! The staff are so so so nice, we ended up spending both evenings there. And live country music at the bar. Thank you to Kian, Kiev, Ian, Jessica, Alex and the reception staff as well I cannot emphasize enough on how truly perfect our stay was ! Thank you!"
"This was the second time we stayed here. Just as before, a memorable experience!! Each room is decorated differently using antique furniture and accessories. The only issue we had was a glitch in the system that caused our booking rate to be much less than what they wanted to charge us. In the end the manager came down on the usual room rate for us and gave us numerous drink vouchers. All in all, a great experience. "

"Brody at the front desk was extremely friendly at check in. He wished us a Happy Anniversary and offered us free drinks and breakfast. He was quick to bring up a roll away bed when asked. Restaurant at the hotel was nice and good was good especially the breakfast. One of the best Omelettes I've ever had and reasonable prices when you buy a coupon through the hotel. Room was comfortable and spacious. Liked the balcony too."
"The Holiday Inn Durango is pretty typical of any Holiday Inn built in the last 10 years. It opened 7 years ago, which means it is starting to show its age. It's time for an update: 1) TVs are from 2013. No smart TV capability. 2) No USB outlets and few accessible electrical outlets for devices. 3) Lighting is very yellow. 4) Combination shower and bathtub really shows its age. 5) Some of the furniture is scratched, discolored, etc. Otherwise, the hotel was comfortable, in a reasonably good location and had an okay restaurant. The restaurant Burger Theory has an okay sports bar dinner -- it's better than their breakfast. The only problem is the hotel does not promote the restaurant for drinks and dinner at check-in. Also, it's not even properly signed or marketed, either from the parking lot or the street. If you didn't know about the restaurant you wouldn't know it was there."
"Fantastic hotel perfectly located in the middle of Durango. 5 minutes from the train depot, 20 minutes from DRO airport, and 35 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park. Heated indoor pool and hot tub. Clean, spacious rooms. Restaurant on-site where kids eat free for every meal. IHG points and perks, and Spire recognition. They always run a fun game for extra points during the Christmas season."

"I didn’t expect to stay here. After examining higher rate hotels and extending my plan to 4 nights due to incredible conditions this year at Purgatory, I decided to give it a try. My son and I can stay just about anywhere and tolerate it- good experience for him, too. Life is not all about staying at the Marriott chain or slope side. Bottom line is for $45 a night we received heat, lots of hot water, no issues there. Also received requested fridge and microwave. The hot tub worked but was like any public hot tub, a little unenticing. Fitness area was average. Breakfast was enough to get you out the door, focused on a big meal at noontime. Room was old, therefore not super clean. Sheets on one bed had dog hair, but I left $10 on the pillow with a note and that was all taken care of the next day. Great crew running this motel, working hard, fixing stuff. Reminded me of people working on an old boat or camper- it takes constant attention! Great value. Would try another one if these hotels in same price point or slightly higher next time!"
"This hotel had one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on including beds at home. It was very clean, convenient to the community, had a very good shower. Due to Covid-19 we were unable to have a breakfast at this hotel, although they advertise a breakfast on Hotels.com. We would stay at this hotel again without question."
"We stayed here for 5 days during our trip to Durango. The rooms were very comfortable. Liked the bathroom setup. Had a mirror and sink in the bathroom and another sink and mirror just outside of the bathroom. Two people could easily get ready in the mornings at the same time. All the staff were extremely friendly"

"The good: Our rooms were nice & bed comfortable. Pillows were very small... more like a sofa pillow than a bed pillow, but soft. The shower had great water pressure with immediate hot water. Staff is friendly & helpful. Free coffee & tea in lobby. The bad: First day there, we were given ONE washcloth. Free breakfast is a water, a little cinnamon cake, a granola bar and an apple. No protein.. all carbs. 😕😜 No more 4pm cookies. No hot breakfast. First day they had hot chocolate in lobby, after that ... none. No daily room service.. you have to ask. Our 3rd day we received no supplies (shampoo, soap, etc...) so we asked for double next day. On our 2nd day, we brought in pizza to eat in the dining area. Crumbs and a mushroom still on the floor when we left days later and on that last morning, I had to go to the restroom for paper towels & hot water to clean the table. It is very obvious that no cleaning or sweeping happens in the lobby area. We sat down there a lot & I never once observed an employee clean anything. However, they DO have spray bottles and stacks of paper towels in a couple places so you can do cleaning yourself! 🤤 Also on our last morning sitting in the lobby eating that carbohydrate rich breakfast, they had NO CUPS FOR COFFEE!!!! Whaaaatt? Could nobody think to go down the street to purchase some at the market? There were other issuesn but you get the idea & I doubt we will ever ever stay here again."
"Our whole experience was excellent we had 3 rooms for 4 nights and everything was perfect! Alicia checked us in and we saw her during our stay she was wonderful! Breakfast was excellent everything was clean! Our rooms had everything we needed! Housekeeping service I can’t complain the girls were supper nice always smiling helping us out answering questions for our visit! This hotel is amazing!"
"Perfect hotel for a Durango getaway. We stayed three nights over Halloween weekend. We were surprised with the nice full breakfast offered Saturday & Sunday morning. Monday was a grab and go bag. Location was very convenient to all Durango’s restaurants and attractions. Safe and clean hotel. We will definitely stay here again when in visiting the area. "
