Matterstrasse 39, Zermatt, Valais, Switzerland
"I stayed here recently and overall had a pleasant stay. My big beef is that they charge 5 star prices for 3/4 star amenities. Look I get it it’s Zermatt and the place is not for bargain hunters. But I don’t think it’s too much to ask for wifi that works and some basic amenities in the bathrooms. First the good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The ladies at the front desk could not have been more pleasant. And the bar tenders were friendly and talented. The servers in the breakfast room were always cheerful and efficient. Bravo to them, you really made our stay very pleasant. Also, the location is great! You are right across the street from the main lifts and a quick walk from the train that goes to the summit (I highly recommend this, easily the most civilized way to get to the top of the mountain). The breakfast was great and the rooms are a nice size — which is great for Europe. Finally the view from my room was the Matterhorn — wow! The bad. The hotel is not cheap, which is fine. But for 500 francs a night I don’t think it’s asking too much to have wifi that works properly or some basic bathroom amenities. My phone kept dropping the wifi signal and you had to log on constantly— and I was not alone everyone had a similar issue. Also, is it too much to ask to have proper shampoo, soap, conditioner and body lotion in the room and not a refillable soap/shampoo container? And please spare me the notion that this is to save the environment. It has zero to do with the environment and everything to do with the hotel being too cheap to deliver proper wifi and bathroom amenities. Finally the spa area was very so so. The steam room wasn’t working for three of the six days we were there. Look it’s a nice hotel with friendly staff, a great view, large rooms and a great breakfast. Quit being so cheap and fix the wifi and put some decent supplies in the bathroom so people don’t leave with a bad impression that is completely avoidable."
"We stayed one night at the hotel National. I was with a friend. The room was big. We even had a kid's bed above us and a hammock. We had a big bathroom, but the bath/shower was under a casestair (or looked like it) and it was difficult not to put water on the floor. The hospitalty tray was great, we had mandarines, water, coffee, tea, sodas available for free (you had to pay for more). The personnel at reception was very nice and showed us our room. The food in the evening was great: buffet, soup, menu and dessert. We had the welcome cocktail offered and the bar tender was very nice. After dinner, we had a gin cocktail and he was a good advisor. I definitely recommend to have a drink there. The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna, hamman and jacuzzi. The pool was too cold for us. The breakfast was continental and amazing. I definitely recommend this hotel."
"Stayed here with some friends over the past week and while we appreciated the amenities such as the Breakfast Buffet (made to order eggs, etc.) and the wide variety of choices and juices there were a number of things that could be better or improved on. The pool and hot tub were fabulous while the sauna was broken for several days during our stay, not acceptable for such a 4 star hotel. We also had evening dinner at the hotel with a very nice salad bar and optional raclette, the dinners and the dessert however need improvement if this is to be a true 4 star hotel. A big plus was the service and waitstaff that are excellent and took great care of us."
