3 et 5 Place Winston Churchill, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France
"We stayed here for one night, breaking our journey from the Channel down south and enjoyed the experience. The hotel is situated on a pleasant tree lined street just five minutes walk from most of Brive's main sites..(its not a large town). The place has obviously had a recent makeover so there's a very modern feel to the interior. Whilst its fine for a short stay however, I'm not sure I'd want to stay too long as despite paying an extra 10 euros for a larger room it was still somewhat on the 'compact' side. Crucially though, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean and stylish with an excellent shower. There is a car park opposite the hotel and certainly when we were there the hotel had an arrangement by which it was free for hotel guests. As we arrived on a Sunday many of the restaurants in town were closed for dinner but the receptionist gave us a list of those which would be open and recommended the 'Les Viviers St Martin' (subject of a separate review) which was superb. Breakfast the following morning was very good with a great array of fruits, yoghurts, ham and cheese in addition to super croissants and pastries. We really enjoyed our stay at Le Collonges and thought it excellent value. Would certainly return if in Brive again."
"Great location in Brive center, near public farm market Saturdaay. Delicious simple breakfast at reasonable price. Comfortable bed. Hot room (no A/C), smoke, diesel fumes, and loud noise from the street, tiny desk, phone can't call front desk, ridiculous bathroom completely floods when you take a shower, staff says it's normal and hands you more towels to mop it up yourself! No room to put your stuff on the bathroom counter.Perfumed shampoo too strong, the single tiny soap they supply must be shuffled back forth between the sink and shower. Not a single shelf in the shower, the soap goes on the dirty floor. Only paid street parking. The bed was comfortable, but eon't expect to sleep. You must either have a hot room, or open the windows to really loud street noise and polluted air even from the 3rd floor. Worse, they only have the dreaded "uni-comforter", so you don't get a sheet. You must sleep uncovered, or with the thick comforter on and then sweat all night tossing and turning. The cleaning crew tidy up the room, but randomly take your soap and don't replace it, or leave you without toilet paper. I wanted to check out and run like hell after night #1, but was too busy to do so and then too apathetic, so I stuck it out, but would not stay here again."
"We stayed here while visiting friends. The rooms are small but very comfortable, there is air conditioning which was a boon in the heat! The rooms were very quiet, and the beds comfortable; the bathroom was spacious as well. Staff members were very polite and helpful - if you return to the hotel after midnight, there is a bell to ring and you are then let in (so there’s no curfew!). There is a simple buffet continental buffet breakfast provided. The location is superb, smack in the middle of this beautiful town and about 15 minutes away by foot from the station. Recommended. "
