Reviews From Real Travelers
We had a really enjoyable 2 night stay having booked a good offer directly with the hotel and our review reflects this. Amazing location, directly across the road from Hampton Court Palace. Parking is limited, but a super helpful, friendly, calm and welcoming gentleman manages the parking area with precision – a bonus is free parking for hotel guests. Our Heritage Room was nice, spacious and opened onto a shared courtyard. Most rooms do not have air-con and even in early May our room was too warm at night, even with all windows open. We were located on the floor below Reception and did have footsteps / creaking floorboards above us all through the night, so would choose a different room if we stayed again. Food was really good and nicely presented. Service was mixed – friendly, but our wine didn’t arrive and when queried, were asked if we wanted this after our meal was finished – not really. We had a few simple questions in the restaurant but staff had to check each time as didn’t know the answers. There isn’t the feeling of refined service of long-time staff. However, the front of house gentleman at breakfast was superb – super efficient, welcoming and professional. The outside river terraces were closed for private functions on the one sunny day of our stay. We appreciate the hotel needs the business, but many hotel guests were really disappointed and feel the hotel should have a small area / few tables for hotel guests, especially as there is no other dedicated bar area for drinks / food. Everyone therefore had to go to other venues for drinks. Not sure where you would sit in Winter – there is a very small ‘Library’ but seating only for a handful of people. Would we go back? Yes, but only if we could get another offer – we will be keeping a look out!

This is undoubtably a lovely hotel with an amazing history. We stayed in a Culture room which was spacious and sparkly clean. However, the one bedside lamp lacked a socket in which to plug it. (A case of style over practicality?). There is no air conditioning which is understandable given the age of the building but made for a warm night even with the fan provided. We ate dinner in the brasserie and this was very good, the maitre’d knows his stuff and makes sure everyone is looked after. There was a very buzzy atmosphere the evening we were there. Breakfast was a little disappointing given the room rate, poached eggs were rock hard and the fruit salad was merely pineapple and melon. The location is quite wonderful though and overall it was a enjoyable experience.

Stayed here for 5 nights (Sep 17-22). Check in was the better part: easy and friendly front desk although no acknowledgment of being a Bonvoy member (not big deal). However, I forgot to ask, and they did not give me the WiFi code; more on that later. Room was fine upon entering. But then started to notice things: dead light bulb, dust on the nightstands, top of the desk with peeled skin (wear and tear), and of course the TV. Now that is something from the 1990s: a 30 inch old TV, grainy picture, and a very limited number of channel with only BBC and a couple showing very old movies from 1980s. You can only watch SkySports at the bar but not in the room. The next day I ended up taking a shower in a puddle as the tub did not drain well. I told the front desk and the staff who happened to be the manager took very good notes and said he’d have it fixed right away. Well, after coming back in the evening, I checked the tub and sure enough still clogged so went down to the front desk and another staff member (appeared very embarrassed) spent a few minutes and then offered to change the room. So, after about 30 min fiddling with the reservation system on their computer we moved into another room. For some odd reason my 5-day visit was done under two reservations: 4 days as one and the last day as another one. On the 4th day reception called to move me into a suite due to the 2nd reservation. I talked to the Front Desk staff and offered that staying at the same room for the same rate was fine. The junior staff agreed as the room was available and started processing but then ran into a problem on their computer system. He asked his manager for help and he promptly rushed by, summarily waved his hand, completely ignored my presence, mumbled something like “it can’t be done,” and walked away. The junior staff was clearly embarrassed and apologized and said he'd ask another hotel manager to keep me in the same room. I asked for the manager’s name (Lloyd) and said that his behavior was rude, not professional, and not that of somebody in the hospitality business. Lloyd showed up after the room situation was resolved and apologized for his behavior. Frankly, nobody needs drama, disrespect, and being treated like a nobody. After all, I was a paying guest and a long time Marriott member!! New room was a copy of the old room except the drain was not clogged. Then the next day I noticed the bathroom bulb was dead. Called the Front Desk from room, but nobody would pick up. Within a span of 30 min I called several times but nobody would pick up, so I walked down to report it to the Front Desk. Problem was solved next day. And now the WiFi: could not find the WiFi code so later called the Front Desk but again nobody would pick up. Another in person trip down to the Front Desk and asked why they wouldn’t pick up. Answer: oh, we didn’t see the phone ring! During the entire stay the corridor on our floor always had a minimum of 3 room servi

Funny place where to find a hotel but, if you want to be near the stadium, this is the right place to stay! Very large and clean room, All the staff is very kind, professional and helpful. They do not have inside gym but just outside the hotel door there's a gym with all you want and entrance is free if you are an hotel guest. Higly recommended

We stayed here for our wedding, and were really quite underwhelmed. We had hoped to stay somewhere that felt somewhat luxurious, but the entire hotel feels quite outdated. While they can't control the heat, it's unfortunate that they don't have any air conditioning - it made it really challenging to sleep, so I would recommend staying somewhere else over the summer months. This was exacerbated by the fact the bed was extremely uncomfortable - there was either a bar across the mattress or a spring loose, but either way I couldn't get any sleep (not ideal the night before your wedding!) The breakfast food was not bad, although staff were slightly abrupt with us until they realised we were there for our wedding (at which point they did become far more friendly!). Our parents stayed with us at the hotel, and were similarly disappointed by the hotel - one was staying very near their events room and so was kept up by the noise coming from that. The drinks in the bar are extremely expensive, even when you take into account the location. It's also a shame that the upstairs & outdoor area that looks out onto the river is for private party use only. It means that when it's a nice day and you'd like to sit outside for a drink, there are only 2 tables at the side of the hotel overlooking the carpark - not particularly joyous! Check out was also a bit of a nightmare - after a certain time in the morning the doors automatically lock you out (which we discovered while going to the car to pack up). You then need to queue at reception to get this undone so you can get back into your room, which unsurprisingly at check out time is quite frustrating. Overall, not what we expected for the price. It's a massive shame because the property is beautiful and in an incredible location and they have so much potential to make this spectacular with some care and investment.

We loved our stay for 5 nights at the Petersham Hotel this past June. The hotel is lovely; our room was very comfortable, perfectly clean and quiet. The bedding is excellent. Attending staff are perfect and extremely helpful. And the location is outstanding. Highly recommend.

Wow what an amazing hotel and amazing staff, never been made to feel so welcome. We attended Woodlands Park, for New Year’s Eve for a murder mystery black tie event, from the minute we arrived we couldn’t have asked for better. The grounds are stunning, the entrance beautifully decorated for Christmas and the architecture of the building was so lovely to look at. Once in reception we were warmly greeted by Steve, Justin and Aysha, Aysha checked us in and was so informative and friendly, the reception staff including Deborah just couldn’t do enough to make our welcome most enjoyable. Once in our room we were delighted by the room and how clean, spacious and relaxing it was, the toiletries were lovely, and the little extra touches like robes and slippers were great. The bed was comfy. Once we had settled in we went down to the bar to get a drink, Victoria was very welcoming and Evan ran around to find me gluten free crisps, they were very hospitable. We went onto the Murder mystery event and the staff were so professional serving the food and being very attentive to our needs. We celebrated midnight and welcomed in 2024, the staff were professional, welcoming and friendly and Wasiq, managed the night so well, the staff really worked hard. I wish I could remember all their names to thank them, but to name a few David M, and Sheldon who ran the night, Casey who worked so hard and really stood out. In the morning we attended breakfast after a fantastic nights sleep in a wonderful bed, breakfast was delicious and nothing was to much trouble, Fredy, Jay and the other staff could not do enough for you. We packed up and checked out but decided to sit and enjoy the reception with the fire, Steve and Magpy, along with Julian were so lovely, we didn’t feel rushed, they got us coffees, chatted with us and even took some photos of us all. Thank you so much to the staff and managers you made our NYE amazing. We will visit again. Unfortunately we lost Steve’s business card so can’t email him direct or thank him.

We went for an evening meal to celebrate a birthday between Christmas and the New Year. This was obviously a mistake as the experienced staff must have all been given leave and left only trainee bar and waiting staff. We ordered cocktails to start and asked for white wine with the starter and ordered a red for our mains. My daughter’s Mojito was basically a premixed version from a bottle with a slice of lime in it. Not even close to the description on the menu. When we queried this they said they’d make a fresh one but they simply brought it back with a couple of mint leaves and more ice added. You get better in tiny pubs than this poor effort and this was in a Hand Picked Hotel at Hand Picked prices. The manager/maitre de explained that they were training new staff and hence he couldn’t expect them to mix proper cocktails!! We were incredulous to hear this and said to him that in that case don’t pretend to offer something you know you can’t deliver. He offered to knock something off the cocktails but said that was all he could do. The restaurant was quiet with only 3-4 tables occupied but nevertheless we had to chase our white wine. It finally arrived after we had finished our starters. We did point this out but got a shrug of the shoulders. We decided to say nothing more as this was spoiling my birthday. The servers were obviously untrained and we could hear other guests complaining. We decided against desserts or after dinner drinks and just left. The food was ok but we won’t go back to this HP hotel until the management has changed. They seem to manage afternoon teas ok but that is all.

Who wants to meet the quiet side of London outside the centre will feel comfortable in this charming 19th-century hotel in the southwest Wimbledon district. It is certainly a hotel for private travellers, but who knows many hotel chains as a business traveller will not see any more such differences and may perhaps have another experience. I personally like the traditional English style of the rooms. In the bathroom, modern equipment connects with historically attractive elements of wall and floor tiles in a harmonious way. I ordered food in the room, which was very good. I also liked breakfast. The staff was very friendly and expert in all areas. The receptionist (I think Angela?) surprised me with an upgrade to a junior suite with views on the park. I think it's not better. Thank you again.

Recommended! Near the famous Wimbledon tennis court, surrounded by the famous big house mansion area, the hotel is in a large park, very quiet, old and heavy furniture, push the window to see the park's large lawn and walk, walk the dog Locals of dogs, small bars and small restaurants in the downstairs lobby are also very British, and you can recommend them to the local style hotel. The disadvantage is that it is a bit far from the city center, and the traffic time is about 40 minutes of traffic time.

We are members of the Lensbury and joined earlier this year. It’s an awesome place - great facilities and grounds. The biggest thing letting it down is the poor food and restaurant service. It always takes ages to order and when the food arrives it’s really not as good as the nearby pubs. If they change this, it’ll easily be the best spot in teddington - such a shame.

Great room, location setting and service. Quality stay for most but does get extra busy and loud (especially if there’s a function and related tidy up is going on in the early hours of the morning and you’re trying to sleep on the 1st floor)! Amenities use is totally worth it!

Stayed 2 nights at the De Vere and couldn't fault it. Stayed in room 105 in the Towers a beautiful building just up from the main one. The room had a wonderfully comfortable Super King bed and the room was spacious and well catered for. Bathroom almost as spacious with lovely wash products/gels, and a very good hand rail installed for the step over bath with double shower attachments. Really nice breakfast selection and wonderfully will cooked breakfast. Staff wonderful and great stay was had. Note that it is nice and quiet just off the main road and ideal location for several national trust properties (Polesdon Lacey lovely) and RHS Wisley which is beautiful this time of year. All within a 20 min drive. Thanks to all at the De Vere!

Great location and grounds. Easy access to the beautiful RHS Wisley and Nat Trust Polesden Lacey estates. Short walk down the drive to a local pub and a great Indian restaurant. All staff at hotel friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice and attentive staff. Would definately stay again.

The first time we ever had a short break away here was in 2012 and it was amazing. On arrival, we were checked in by a person who gave us wristbands and told us everything we needed to know about early park access, breakfast check in, times, and everything you needed to know. We also had access to the walk around the zebra and giraffe (and the other animals) enclosures after the park had closed. Which was amazing. This time around it was completely different. We had to check ourselves in, which also cost an additional £15 for room keys. (which you do have back once you check out) No one behind the counter had informed us that some things had changed, so we went about things like it was back in 2012. On the second day, the day we were supposed to be granted 1 hour early in the park the early access gate was closed and locked. We decided to try the main entrance and after fighting our way to the front of the main entrance and trying to explain to staff that our entrance was closed, we still had to argue with one of the staff members to gain access. By the time we got to someone who was willing to let us in they were letting the public in anyway. So we lost our early access. The park was amazing the staff there were lovely and the rides were great and we really did have a cracking day. At the end of the day when the park had closed, we decided to go back to the hotel and change so we could enjoy the walk among the zebras and other animals. But again, the gate was closed and locked. I went to ask a member of staff on the main desk what was going on and why the gate was locked both times we attempted to use it and was informed that they don't allow hotel guests to have that privilege anymore. I was very disheartened by all this and this probably could have been avoided if we were informed during check in like we were in 2012. I get that it may be easier for some people but why am I doing hotel receptions jobs for them by checking us all in and trying to scramble the Internet and my email inbox to try and find out information. Everything else is fantastic and I really do love this place. They just need to make more effort to inform people about their stay and not just lump us with 100's of emails and expect us to go through them all for one tiny piece of information they could have easily told us in person.

We stayed last weekend in a Tiger themed room complete with roaring toilet! First class stay, absolutely loved watching the cheeky Ostrich chase the feeding truck from our window. Staff were all lovely, went above and beyond to make our stay special. Nothing was too much trouble. The food at breakfast was delicious, cooked fresh and plenty of variety. Would highly recommend for a great family weekend. Thank you! See you again soon 🙂

This is my second time staying at this hotel and I just cannot fault the service. Esther on reception was so helpful and even brought a little cuddly toy up to the room for my two year old daughter. The travel cot I had pre-ordered was already in the room when we arrived and we were given a lovely big room that the three of us could enjoy without being on top of each other. The room was spotlessly clean and all the cleaning staff were so friendly in the morning. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent (again a high chair was ready and waiting for us when we arrived) and whilst the breakfast is a buffet, it is a good selection and high quality. The only small thing I would suggest is that the quality of the coffee is improved and that all coffees are included in the breakfast as paying extra for a 'speciality coffee' is not really in-keeping with a hotel of this standard.
- Guest User
When we arrived the reception staff were very friendly and helped with our requested additions. The room was roomy and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have had. The view was nice. Air condition is a bonus. The position of the bathroom door and toilet were very close, there was an excellent shower,. The fridge had some bottled water very welcome. The bar served a very large selection. The restaurant was very comfortable and the meals were excellent. We stayed here 8 years ago and we will not leave it so long next time. All of the staff with no exceptions were polite, helpfully and profesional. We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and everyone. My only slight annoyance is that the pool is not included, and charge a kings random to use the facility that they did not before,

Wooton House delivered on peace, tranquility and outdoor space but perhaps owing to getting up to speed with operations post lockdown, it wasn't as organised as I'd like. I booked via Trips. Com and prepaid on the platform but due to a clerical error they changed the full amount plus incidentals on the day of check out. The pre-authorisation on the card at check in was per standard practicebut it made no sense to me why the full hotel cost was held. I queried it but was informed this was the standard procedure. I am sure it will be resolved soon as I have informed the hotel but it would be great to see a much slicker guest experience next time.

It' s my second time here. The Hotel itself is amazing, lovely location and good spa facilities.. In both occasions though they had a Wedding and the customer service was very disappointing.. such a long queue at check in...at check out...and also to get a drink or a coffee, thank God we didn't have any food!!! One poor bartender alone at the bar (on Saturday night) and the bar was packed... They told us that they are short-staffed but they should manage it in a better way! Such a pity! :/
