Palasiet, 3, Plana Alta, Valencia Community, Spain
"In our quest to find something between a boot camp (5am mountain runs don’t appeal) and a spiritual retreat (neither does chanting ‘om’ all day), we decided upon Thalasso Hotel El Palasiet in Benicassim. It seemed to offer the perfect mix of a structured exercise timetable, dietician-supervised meals and seafront Spa relaxation. On that front, we were not disappointed. As there were so few, let me get the niggly negatives out the way first. Having been asked to complete a medical questionnaire pre-stay, I wasn’t so happy to receive a generic ‘welcome to your weight loss retreat’ letter upon arrival. At no point had I mentioned I wanted to lose weight. As time went by it became clear weight loss was what most people were there for – so I guess that letter was accurate on most occasions. Our nutritionist appointment wasn’t until the next day and the medical appointment was almost forgotten until we re-read our joining instructions and requested one two days later. These appointments should ideally be done on arrival so you can start the nutrition on the right track and get the best ‘before’ and ‘after’ interpretation. I could also gripe that the fitness sessions (gym, aqua gym) were far too light but, again, they did suit the majority. Here’s where it’s reasonable to point out that the average El Palasiet guest is to the senior end of the age spectrum. The Spa is also open to external clients and they too are retiree-plus. It’s wonderful to see their commitment to improving their health and wellbeing but, if you’re lucky enough to be more youthful, expect to have to put in your own gym time and fitness programme to supplement the timetabled sessions – if you want the best results. Finally, the ‘silent’ gym was awkward to say the least. I have never been in a gym where you feel self-conscious if you let out a grunt of exertion or jump too loud on the laminate wood floor (which undoubtedly should be rubberised or some such). The positives were plentiful. The staff were by and large utterly charming (especially reception, Spa, nutritionist, doctor) and while some have been disappointed at their lack of English, we both are fortunate enough to speak relatively good Spanish, so no problem. The room, albeit a standard, was huge, spotlessly clean, well-equipped, bright, quiet, and with a comfortable two-metre bed – heaven. The food was beautifully prepared and presented – fresh and healthy. The location is unparalleled, overlooking the sea, and on the doorstep of the Via Verde, an easy-to-follow coastal 5.7km walking/cycling route from Benicassim to Oropesa full of gorgeous views and pretty watchtowers – take a bicycle from reception and off you go. Finally, the building is classical, tasteful and elegant, and the Spa and grounds immaculately maintained – with an almost sub-tropical feel. We both stuck rigidly to the programmed menus and activities and lost weight/centimetres and toned up – impressive for just four nig"
"Loved this hotel! Beautifully maintained old building on a well treed property. Clean bright and very spacious room. King bed, good pillows (I’m a pillow stickler!), big clean bathroom and elevated sitting area with chairs overlooking beautiful rooftop greenery. Excellent breakfast in gorgeous bright restaurant with incredible garden views. Breakfast had cereals, bread, toast, yogurt, outstanding cheeses, plus wonderful Spanish tomatoes in oil, fish in oil, eggs to order with friendly service. During our stay a fabulous wedding reception was being geld in the ball room with the who’s who of Benicassim dressed to the nines, gorgeous! Highlight: the wonderful thermal and jet baths, steam room, hammam. You must wear a bathing cap there, they will sell you one if you don’t have one. "
"Had the good fortune to be given a gift voucher for the above and spent a blissful few hours at Palasiet yesterday. A playful hour in the pool. Enjoyed trying the various water jets. Then a delightful cocktail served on a tranquil and beautiful outdoor terrace. Our meal superb. All the staff courteous and efficient. If you’re looking for an unusual and delightful gift try a voucher for Palasiet."

"This place doesn’t only have to be used to cheat on your partner!!! It can also be used to come here for a special night with your partner! So this is what we did. Beds are massive and very comfy, like sleeping on a cloud. Room service food are inexpensive but you get what you pay for, it’s nothing spectacular. Jacuzzi in our room was great, decoration very simple but effective and the bathroom with double shower was great. Love the fact you don’t see anyone and park your car right below your room so you don’t cross paths with anyone. However one criticism would be I could hear the motel staff in the morning along the corridors shouting and talking loudly with each other. I don’t want to see anyone, and I don’t want to hear anyone either! "
"I remember coming here years ago when it was brand new and it was good enough, but sadly it looks like Shhh motel doesn’t know the meaning of maintenance. The room wasn’t completly clean, as it had stains of water on the floor and some tomatoe stains in the ceiling(I know these ones would be difficult). The jacuzzi had a fliquering light that honestly scare us that migh electrocuted us, also the pumps didn’t work good enough and therefore lost all the point of getting a room with javuzzi(Daikiri room). Their website didn’t work for book the room, we had to call. And once there we could listen to all the staff going up and down, and when we called to ask them couple things they forgot their manners if they ever had any."

c/La Corte 77,Av. Ferrandis Salvador, 6, Benicasim, Valencia Community, Spain
"My wife and I spent a week at the Tramontano at the beginning of July 2019. We decided on this hotel because the cost for B and B was substantially cheaper than the hotel where we normally stay - a saving of about £900. There were no complaints about the room and balcony, with a fantastic view of Vesuvias and the Bay of Naples. The standards of cleanliness were excellent, and the hotel itself was everything you might expect from a 300-year-old building, oozing class and history. A great swimming pool, too. Our only downside was the hotel's beach. The cost of two sun beds and one umbrella while we were there was 27 euros a day, which might have been acceptabale had the beach provided a good customer experience. Sadly, not. Sun beds crammed in like Blackpool on a hot day with officious beach guards telling you where you can and can't sit. Brits didn't get to sit on the actual, beach, which appeared to be reserved for Italian families. We were steered to beds on the decking, but by mid-day the sun had shifted and it proved impossible to move the umbrella as there was no space to do so. Rather naughtily, the hotel's guide book talks about 'free access' to the beach. Strictly speaking, this is true. You can swim and walk on the beach and decking free of charge. But if you want a sunbed and an umbrella - and who wouldn't? - you pay a substantial amount. "
"Stayed here for the second year in a row for Rototom festival. Hotel is 1 minute from the beach, rooms are spotless and cleaned to a high standard every day. Supermarket less than 5 minutes walk away and town centre 10 minutes. Much less on bikes. Breakfast is good - bread, cheese, meats, cakes, cereal, toast etc. What makes the hotel stand out the most however is the staff, all of them friendly and happy to help and we look forward to seeing them again next year. "
"I was absolutely satisfied with the service. The receptionist and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The room is clean (and cleaned up every day). However I missed the hairdryer from the room but successfully managed to get one from the reception. The location is amazing, the most beautiful part of the beach and promenade is 1 minute walk away from the hotel. City center is 8-10 min walk with full of nice restaurant and bar."

"Castellon is not a tourist destination. Business brought me here. The city and hotel were both surprisingly lovely. We had an event at the hotel, the facilities were great and all the hotel team could not have been kinder and more helpful. The hotel is in the perfect location with lots of bars and shops nearby. This hotel represents exceptional value for money - thank you. "
"The hotel is in the heart of the city with lots of bars and shops nearby, walking distance to the museums. The staff was very polite, kind and helpful regarding all question and request. Breakfast was decent and had a good selection for starting a new day. Room was very clean, bright, facilities were good, bed was comfortable and toiletries provided were nice."

Ronda Mijares, 86, Castellon de la Plana, Valencia Community, Spain
"This hotel was a total disappointment. As part of the Wyndhamm group and Melia I thought as a 4* hotel it would be exactly that. A 4* hotel but it’s just a bed and breakfast hotel. Although they offer Half and Full board this is a smokescreen, we booked half board only to find upon arrival that this hotel does not operate its restaurant only for breakfast. You are shipped across to the 3* hotel apparently its sister company. This 3* is so disorganized that it didn´t even have a proper evening menu only a board shown tapas and a no option set menu on a blackboard shown through the closed door to the restaurant. The food was deplorable as was the breakfast which the TRYP hotel did offer. Poor quality all round and not a 4* hotel, the beds in the junior suite were rock solid so we checked out the very next morning. The only plus about this hotel are the wonderful reception staff and, I suspect without these wonderfully helpful staff this accommodation would be totally empty. How they ever get rated as 4 stars is beyond belief again I only surmise that when an inspector calls they are not aware that the place is only a bed a breakfast joint! Find another hotel to spend your money in. Plus you pay €12 to park your car in their car park."
"Beautiful hotel lobby & rooms. All of the staff are so so helpful. Any queries etc they go out of their way to assist. Can bring food in to the rooms etc with out any hassle. Maids we met in the room were great just as we came back. Room was spotless & more tidy than we left it. Great location for doing anything, although a bit away from the train station."
"We only stayed for a night and I wish it would had been more The room was spotless, really big and the girls were delighted with the bunk beds and the little surprise the hotel had for them. The staff is really nice and helpful I totally recommend this hotel as the location is good as well"

"We needed a stay on our way to Valencia and Sercotel Plana Park was very close to the main road. Staff at the reception were friendly and check in was easy, the room was tidy and looked newly furnished... Everything was fine until it turned out that the single bed didn't have a pillow, but some kind of armrest or a cushion off of a sofa or whatever it was, awkwardly shaped and very hard, impossible to sleep on. Then shower time. Very elegant bathroom, but the shower head was scratched to bare plastic and hanging sadly with the stream directed towards the wall, so I had to hold it my hand all the time, which made washing my hair rather difficult. the bathroom floor quickly was flooded, so we couldn't go to the toilet later without soaking our feet. I didn't mention that the whole lounge and restaurant area looks also clean and new. It was nice to sit in, but it turned out that the coffee machine was out of order and all scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage (one sausage, not replenished at any point) were completely cold. The variety of cold cuts and cheese was ok though. All in all, everything looks fine, but once you start using it, it's one big disappointment, At least value for money was ok."
"The Hotel is an excellent location travelling down from France to Alicante and Murcia etc The down side its situated on an Industrial estate with nothing around The Hotel had excellent rooms and facilities and the breakfast was excellent No Bar was available"
