"Myself and my hubby had an overnight stay which was part of an it is on deal which included breakfast and a bottle of fizz. Arrival- we did arrive a bit early ( just after 1 on Friday the 7th) but thought we would go in and check as sometimes in last hotels you can get in earlier, there was a couple in front of us and we waited but we were asked quite abruptly, can I help you with a girl on the reception ( tied back black hair) when we said that we knew we were early but just wondered if the room was ready, again she was quite abrupt in saying that no rooms are guaranteed until after 3 but her attitude was just not nice for a first impression. We there for left at this point and made our way into the town, we were planning on eating at the hotel but after this we decided to eat in town. Anyway we came back after 8pm that night and were booked in by a lovely gentleman, total contrast to early in the day. Rooms- rooms were lovely and a great size, bed was very comfortable and a bottle of Prosecco also waiting. Breakfast - we went down to breakfast and we were greeted with a lovely lady who showed us to our table, tea was brought along with some OJ ( there was a choice ) and toast, we had some pastries , my only point to make here was the milk was not chilled for the cereal. We also had a full breakfast which was really nice, no complaints at all here. Location- we had to get a bus into town which cost £2 each and was a 10 min journey so close enough. Over all we would stay again here and would recommend just not the best first impression"
"Had an amazing high tea for 2 last week. Groupon deal. I had roast gammon and hubby had steak pie. Could not fault it, and scones and strawberry tarts were yummy. Staff friendly. Definitely going back again."
"Stayed 1 night with mum dbb deal . Checked first with hotel if any steps as mum has mobility issues. Was told everything would be fine as all on the ground level. Arrived to be told we were in a room over in the annexe up 1 level but there was a lift . So mum had to walk with her walking aid through car park over to other building and up steps as we weren't told we could get round by not having to go into the carpark . Then evening meal was over in cooks restaurant , another long walk for mum passed hotel and into another building with no ramp therefore she had to struggle going down 6 steps to restaurant. Won't be going back I'm afraid . I should never have been told hotel would be suitable for her mobility issues. Really disappointed. Also had to call reception as bottle of fizz was not in room for arrival."

"I stayed at MacDonald Inchyra with one of my friends for a midweek getaway. We chose this hotel as it had a spa. On arrival the hotel receptionist, Chelsea, was so friendly and helpful. It really did give the best start to our stay. The spa area was beautiful and the facilities were excellent. Following our time in the spa we went to the restaurant for dinner. The service was excellent and the food very tasty. Likewise, breakfast the next morning was also lovely. We really were impressed with this hotel and it was excellent value for money too. I have already recommended to others. Thank you for a fabulous stay. "
"On arrival we asked at the reception where to go as this was our first visit. We were directed to the room so we could start our meal. when we went in the room there was no one there to greet us we waited for a few minutes and a young girl appeared and asked what we were hear for. We explained and was shown to our table. This same young girl asked me about my two allergies that were stated on the application and I confirmed that these were correct. When our food arrived after a long priod of time we (my wife and I) noticed that both of the allegies that were agreed upon were on the plate. There was Tuna fish, number one of the allergies, and also Eggs number two of said same. We waited to see someone about these but there was no one to be seen after the food was set on the table. We eventualy left with a very poor opinion of this hotel and will not be back"
"We had an Itison voucher for Sunday lunch for two. Staff were welcoming and the food was delicious. I had the roast beef which came with nice selection of vegetables . All very tasty and my partner had pork sausages with mash which he also said was delicious. The desserts, tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding didn’t disappoint. Thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Charlotte was friendly and efficient. We look forward to a return visit."

"Stellar break and highly, highly recommended! Spent 3 nights here for my 36th Birthday with my partner. I live only 10 mins drive away but it was like stepping into another world. The building and the grounds are stunning. Everything COVID-safe to the highest standard. Took advantage of the (warm!) pool. Well situated for day trips (easy to get to Edinburgh, Linlithgow etc - we specifically visited Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian owl centre and Modern Art One Ray HarryHausen exhibition in Edinburgh). The service was out of this world. The team really went out of their way and were very upbeat and helpful. I really appreciate good service and this was probably the best I have ever had. As it was my birthday, they made it that bit extra special, which was really appreciated. The main man in charge (Andrew, I believe his name was) had a really great attitude and made you feel "at home." A big thank you to all of the staff - you all deserve only good things! Room was spotless and very warm and comfy. Same for the bed. Very quiet and a very restful sleep. The interior was very well done up and just oozed class. The food was some of the best I've ever had and that's no exaggeration!! Breakfast was incredible and set you up for the day (cereals, yoghurts, pastries, full cooked breakfast etc). Dinner was to die for. I honestly couldn't believe how tasty it was - out of this world good. I missed the "special" one night and they made it especially for me on my birthday the following day - how about that for service! Oh and their was also a gluten-free menu for my partner, which was awesome. I don't often drink but bar service was great and had a few amarettos (I think that was the name!). I wonder if the chef does a chocolate souffle as my step-daughter has always wanted to try one! I rarely write reviews but this stay has warranted it... and then some! Thanks for a great stay and Merry Christmas when it comes!"
"My wife and I went along yesterday for afternoon tea, having driven from just outside glasgow in horrendous rain. I said to my partner" hope the drive is worth it" On arrival we were greeted by Lindsey,,warm attentive helpfull mature beyond her young age,,We was shown to our table in a slightly dingy dull room that,s more rendisent of the time of Dick Turpin.I asked Lindsey would it be poss we can move to the front of the house more familiar and welcoming part of the hotel,,Without a second breath Lindsey was more than accomodating,,nothing is too much for this Gal.....I must also add the ACTUAL afternoon tea was quite simply "SUPERB"...freshly made sannys and 10 out of 10 for the home baked cakes and scones,,gold star to the junior sous chef!!!,,,Lindsey did promise us the big lovely front view table in the lounge when we return,,in the words of Mr,Schwarchaneegar,,,"I,L BE BAACK""
"Booked a 3 night family stay to enjoy some away from work at home mode to recharge the batteries. We booked the deal which was fantastic which includes dinner bed and breakfast. It has to be said the hotel and staff excelled expectations in the New normal of covid 19 and social distancing. Throughout during breakfast and meals everything was done to follow the guidance and sanitizer stations throughout the hotel. The real gem was the Scottish hospitality led by Andrew and the team who made a special stay as memorable. Hope to return again as everywhere within easy reach and within short car journeys to Edinburgh Castle Linlithgow Palace Stirling Castle the Kelpies Loch Lomond boat trip and Forth bridges and River cruise as well as doing part of the Fife coastal drive. Despite a busy trip still managed to get to use the swimming pool. The evening meals were certainly worth looking forward to and the staff were very attentive. "

"Myself and my partner got a last minute Groupon deal to get away after a hectic Christmas and New Year. Location - Lovely location and would have explored more if the weather had been better. Crossford is a sweet place and surrounding area is also lovely. Room - Disappointed. We had a plug in heater that was difficult to use to get a good temperature as it was dry and roasting when turned on and then grew cold quickly when turned off. The furniture was a bit dated and it all felt a bit grubby unfortunately. The bathroom was alright although rather unpleasantly when using the bath noticed buildup of dirt around the taps and shower buttons. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable though and there was a really great selection of tea/coffee and super nice biscuits. (we would have brought this up had it not been a discount deal) Food - The food was good standard and the haggis was particularly nice! No fish left on first night and as pescatarian had limited other options on the menu other than mac and cheese which was lovely. When I managed to get some fish it was really soggy which was a shame. Breakfast cold selection was great yoghurts, fruit juices, overnight oats and the hot options very varied and really liked being able to build your own breakfast. Veggie sausages 0/10. Service - Reception check in was incredibly quick only asked for my name then given room key. Service in resturaunt - Breakfast staff on the ball and very nice and friendly. Evening service unfortnately shocking on both evenings. The first night we waited nearly an hour to have our food served and watched and heard apologies at various other tables that had been waiting for far longer for food and drinks. We asked for our bill at 9.30, and I asked the waitress whether we had to book a table for breakfast or just walk in, and whether we had to pay for additional costs not included in our deal now or at the end of our stay. She didn't know the answer to these questions so went away to find out. She came back about 5 minutes later asking if we were DBB (at the time confusing as not used to terminology) and when we asked what this was she said as we didn't know her manager would be over to speak to us. We then waitied as the waitress as she served other tables around us, and no sign of manager. After twenty minutes of not being able to get anyones attention, we had to go up to the manager ourselves and he apologised for keeping us waiting, explaining he had been very busy. We could actually see him the entire time and he had more than enough time to pop over to our table. He actually blamed staff when I complained about how difficult it had been to just pay our bill. The second night we hoped the service would be better. My partner ordered soup, noted as served with focaccia. No focaccia arrived and she asked for some bread. The waitress said she would go and find out if she could have some bread and then simply never returned. However everything "
"This hotel was just what we needed after an eight hour car journey. I have described it as a 'hidden gem' because despite entering the post code into my satnav we were directed to a very pleasant hillside about 1/2 miles from the hotel. However once we arrived the welcoming could not have been better. everything worked and the cleanliness was exceptional. The bed was very comfy and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Overall a memorable experience."
"Having stayed here before for a birthday celebration we had no hesitation in booking again for my wife's birthday. We received excellent service from all the staff we had contact with especially in the bar and dining area. Food was top quality and the little tweaks we asked for in the evening and at breakfast were happily met. The leisure facilities are superb and worth a visit. We will definitely be staying at keavil house again."

"I booked the bankton house as my wedding venue and it was a big mistake. I had guests travelling from all over the UK so booked every room bar 1 in the hotel for two nights. I was given prices for the rooms which I gave to my guests only to find out that 1 couple had been charged £60 extra and the other £80 extra. When I complained I was told that there had been price increases in January, but they just didn’t bother to let me know and they wouldn’t be refunding my guests either. Breakfast isn’t included in the price if you want a cooked breakfast. This is £10 extra on top of an already expensive room. I was asked how many of my guests would be having a cooked breakfast as this dictated what time Carla came in in the morning. I was stressed out enough without having to ask for my guests breakfast menu. Carla was extremely pushy about asking my guests what they want for breakfast and she was continually rude and argumentative about things. I was promised that I would be able to get in to decorate the hall the day before at my first meeting, then to be told later that no I can’t get in the day before as they may get a booking for the room and they can’t turn it down. Fair enough, but if you hadn’t promised this, I wouldn’t have booked the hotel as my venue. When I arrived on the Friday, Carla told me that I could have been in a few days before to decorate, but again they just didn’t bother to let me know. It’s not what you want to hear when you are very busy trying to fit everything in. The food that we had agreed on was lentil soup for starters. This is not what we got. We ended up with some kind of extremely spicy vegetable soup which was not suitable for some of my guests or myself. The veg that came with the steak pie was so overcooked it was like mush. The cheesecake was the only good thing. We were meant to get 4 bottles of wine on each table, these were never put out. They had a waitress come round twice asking what we would like, so it didn’t amount to 4 bottles per table. Renata who was dealing with my wedding told me that the usual disco had let them down so they would have to book with another company. This was fine, until I read the reviews on here that they always use Coasters discotheque and the reviews were bad. I wish I had seen this before my big day. The DJ turned up and the music was so awful that the dance floor was empty. Myself, my husband and several guests asked for different music to be played and he kept saying he didn’t have any of the songs. He told one of my guests that if she thinks she can do a better job then she was welcome to it. The DJ was overheard outside the hotel shouting and swearing at his office because the equipment he had been given was faulty. I complained about this to the coasters owner and he said it must have been by accident that my guests overheard him shouting and swearing??? We were given a £30 refund with a note scribbled on a post it note care of the bankton. That’s customer service for you. T"
"We just wanted to say how great our day went and for all the special care to ensure our day went prefect we couldn't have asked for anymore so a big big thank you from the happy newly weds and from our guests. The staff were excellent. So friendly and happy to help"
"This is a very good but small country house hotel. The room was a good size and was clean, comfortable and very quiet. The room was a bit warm at night and the only downside was that there was no ventilation as the window did not open. The bar meals and breakfast were very good and reasonably priced. The cost of the room was a bit high but this is possibly because they have very few rooms. There are a lot of good walks in the immediate area of the hotel. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay."

"I visited the City Hotel when visiting south Fife and was pleasantly surprised to find that a lot of money had been spent to bring it up to a good quality standard. The room rate was favourable to other local establishments. Located in the heart of the city it is a good place to explore the nearby Abbey and Dunfermline which is much bigger than one might expect it to be - its two rail stations (Dunfermline Town) and (St Margaret’s) which are approx 6 minutes journey time from each other indicate this fact. The bedroom were smart with everything required. The only downside I could see was in the middle of the night there was a slight breeze coming through the window - the bed was located near the window. A bath rather than a shower would have been good too, though space in the bathroom was limited. The full Scottish breakfast, included in the room rate, was ample and sufficient. Other meals were enjoyable and wholesome. The staff were pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. I hope to re-visit Dunfermline in the future and would have no hesitation in booking into The City Hotel."
"The City is a traditional Scottish hotel - i adore the tartan carpets! - bang in the centre of the town's [city] historic heart, but it doesn't overcharge considering its location and it's a good choice for the price. There are just a few parking spots or you can use the pay and display car park outside which is actually quite reasonable [3.80 all day]. We looked out our window and saw that lovely baronial clock tower. OK so it's not the Ritz but it doesn't try to be, so yes be aware there are no lifts or power showers but it's cosy, clean, comfortable, has a bar/cafe, restaurant, 24 hour reception and the location is excellent for the theatre, bars and restaurants and a most beautiful city park. Friendly staff, especially breakie and lunch, but I found Dunfermline a very welcoming town anyway. Will stay again when next back for the theatre."
"Group of 12 stayed here overnight for a family reunion. Efficient, warm friendly welcome from reception. Corridors and staircase a bit grubby and bags of laundry left sitting on landing the whole time. Room was clean and nicely decorated but paintwork needs freshened up. We had a good night’s sleep in a comfortable bed in a well soundproofed room. The shower had very poor pressure and the spray was sparse- definitely needs some maintenance. Breakfast was very nice. My main complaint would be the lack of consistency regarding the rules in the residents seating area ie.reserved for residents only and no food or drink to be consumed in this area. Before we left to go out for an evening meal we met in reception for a drink. Only to find, all but two seats being used by non-residents who were having drinks. Adjacent bar was full, so nowhere to sit. When we returned after our meal to socialise, again all seats taken by non residents despite the signs. We managed to find a table in the very noisy bar. Could the hotel not provide a separate residents lounge or at least stick to their own rules displayed on every table in this area?"

"Well what can I say apart from phenomenal! Saw the staycation deal on the hotels facebook page and after a few emails with the hotel we booked. Room was lovely, staff were second to none (adhered to COVID guidelines), bar/restaurant were modern and the food, especially the afternoon tea were delicious. I can't fault this hotel nor its staff at all (we had 2 issues which were resolved efficiently & quickly). Would definitely recommend."
"Visited recently with family. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was excellent. No issues with social distancing that we could see and all Covid 19 procedures were in place. We would recommend and we will be returning."
"Dined here on a Saturday night. Restaurant not at full capacity. Ordered starters & mains and no starters came, brought the mains and when mentioned to the waitress she said do you want them with you me main? Eh no we won’t bother. Not once were we asked if the meal was Okay. My macaroni was in a thin sauce & the garlic bread had not been toasted. Hubby’s burger was nice. We sat for 25 minutes after finished meal with empty plates in front of us and I had to make eye contact with the waitress for her to come & remove them. We did not bother with desert as it wasn’t the experience we had so been looking forward to. The staff let the place down - I like to support local businesses but unfortunately we won’t be back & I wouldn’t recommend. "

"I stayed at Ashcroft Farmhouse for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was very clean and my room and bathroom had plenty of space. Elizabeth Scott, the proprietor, was delightful! She was so welcoming and had a wonderful sense of humor. The breakfast room was bright and sunny and the food was delicious! The farmhouse is probably 20-30 minutes outside of Edinburg, near the town of Mid Calder. I would definitely stay there again. "
"You’ll feel like you are staying at your grandmas house... assuming your grandma is sweet, funny and an excellent cook! Elizabeth was an amazing host and we had such a wonderful time here!! She was so accommodating and is really what makes the stay! Otherwise- rooms are great, location is right by the bus stop in a beautiful area and bed was comfy! "
"I have to agree with all the NEGATIVE reviews of this property !....It’s worth reading them before you make the mistake of booking ! The title Ashcroft Farm is utterly misleading. It resembles an Old Person’s Care Home , sited on a busy main road in a none too attractive village in West Lothian. The hostess, in spite of all the positive reviews, and her self-publicity as “Landlady of the Year “ is in fact totally intrusive, and her rooms inadequate ! Room 5, grandly named “St.Andrews” is too small for double occupancy, and the so-called en-suite is worse than a “Portacabin” building-site temporary loo. I expect to hear a vituperative response from the landlady; but I am totally confident that my review accurately reflects our experience of this B&B. In no way should it qualify to be included in Farmstay UK. I have always had good experiences booking on this website, but this one was a disappointment !"

"My family and I have just enjoyed the best new year party we have attended for many years. We had a great night with excellent food, smashing entertainment and friendly company all in a wonderfully decorated function suite. The hotel staff worked like trojans to make this the success it undoubtedly was, and are to be congratulated for their efforts. Ater the ball was over we retired to our very comfortable rooms to enjoy a good nights sleep before partaking of the excellent breakfast provided. Will we be back again? you bet we will, in fact we are in process of booking our place for next year. In the meantime we hope to visit this very good hotel during the year."
"WOW - for the past 5 years we have had Christmas lunch out and I can say without any doubt that the Hilcroft has surpassed all previous destinations. Congratulations to both back and front of house staff. Good food was had by all and the added extras for the children were excellent . Colourful table balloons which the children were allowed to take home also selection boxes for each child but the absolute bonus was the availability of a play room for the younger children. Well done to management and staff cannot praise your efforts enough."
"having been in lockdown for months .We ventured out to our local Hilcroft Hotel for dinner.Scot made sure I was kept away from other guests due to my apprehension. The menu is varied to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. The presentation & taste is fabulous, thank you chef. Hats off to all staff for making this a pleasurable experience . Scot, Marion & Pedro ensured everyone stuck to the government rules in these unprecedented times. Thank you all and would highly recommend"

"We have been here many times and have not had any problems with the staff as they are always happy to help and smiley and it may be a while between visits but they always seem to recognise us. With premier inn you can almost guarantee a great nights stay at them all. We have no issues with this hotel and although there is a restaurant next door there are many other local places to eat. The room is warm and clean and spacious and for us its like a home from home. Uphall Station train station is a short drive away making this premier inn ideal if you are coming to Scotland to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow . Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at the Inn and always seem happy in their work.. Thanks for another great stay.No pictures as have posted many in the past and nothing is different."
"Stayed at the Premier Inn first time since Covid started and noticed the changes. We took the meal deal option and got excellent service as we had before from Claire. Graham on the grill done an excellent mixed grill. The breakfast was good unusual not having self service but understand and the staff due to table service demands seemed a bit more stressed than usual. The food again was good."
"I am staying here for 2 nights on my own as a birthday treat from my daughter's staff lovely very friendly. Room very clean with tea coffee facilities great sleep went to restaurant thank you David for the lovely food you prepared and Claire for lovely table service xx"
