Rua das Maravilhas, 74, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
"Four Views Baia Hotel is a 4 star hotel about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal. As with most places in Madeira that are not on the sea front it is up a hill so the return journey from the city on foot will involve some exercise. However, there is a free courtesy hotel bus that runs during the day from and to the hotel and seafront. Taxis and bus services are readily available but the walking will do you good. The hotel facilities are excellent. The outdoor pool is free to all guests. The gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and indoor pool are accessible for a modest €5 per visit. There is also a spa with treatments which my partner tried and thought really good. The breakfast offer is generous and caters to all tastes. Half board is available and the food is good quality and plentiful. (Thankfully chips or french fries are not on offer!) (We had the half-board package.) The rooms are spacious with a small balcony and nice bathroom with decent pressure shower. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi round of the package. Finally the key feature has to be the warm and helpful staff who made our stay a very relaxed and enjoyable week."
"We were impressed by the hospitality and efficiency of the reception staff on our arrival at the Four Views Baia. We had a seaview room. The restaurant was always busy but had a choice of food to suit all tastes and the staff were really helpful explaining the dishes in English as our Portuguse was limited. We enjoyed the variety of meals in the hotel restaurant. There are also some great restaurants in Funchal too. Nothing was a bother for any of the staff in this hotel. Our room was spotless and cleaned every day. We booked our package with Jet2 who got us to the hotel but that was the limit to their contribution....no rep at the hotel. There was a book and a phone number if you needed help!! This was where the brilliant hotel reception team came to our rescue. Recommending and booking trips for us and providing a lot of local information.(The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal - 15 mins back because it is uphill) I would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay in Madeira."
"The Four Views Baia in Funchal has a good location, near the city. Just 5 minutes Walking Downtown. One thing that could be disturring was traffic outside but if the balconydoor is closed there is no problem. Nice breakfast, a wonderful SPA and pool-area. Good dinnerbuffé and a nice bar!"

Estrada Monumental, 145, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
"We took the plunge on Wednesday 28th October and decided to book a flight on Friday at the last minute - flight wasn't busy, forecast ok, and importantly we felt healthy enough to risk the covid test at Funchal airport. The testing at Funchal was very well organised, and after arriving mid afternoon we self isolated in our room at Les Suites enjoying room service for dinner. Our negative result was emailed through at 05.00 the next morning. We have stayed at the Cliff Bay many times so knew what to expect, friendly attentive service, good food and very comfortable surroundings. Apart from minor grumbles with a poor Wi-Fi connection, everything lived up to expectation. We stayed in a Suite for one week and enjoyed every minute. All credit to Porto Bay and their architect for creating this boutique addition out of what previously seemed to be two tumbledown houses and an impossibly small bit of land. In my humble opinion it is a visionary development, and they have created a piece of magic out of what seemed nothing, and now fits in as if it has always been there. The infinity pool works very well with beautiful views over the bay, The Avista restaurant was excellent, and all in all they have worked hard to create a safe feeling environment in these covid times. A huge thanks to the whole team, we will look forward to our next visit in hopefully less restrictive times. Stay safe!"
"This gem on the rocky coast of Madeira is beyond outstanding for even the most discerning travellers. The two floor sea side rooms with a private internal elevator between the floor is you choose not to walk up the modern wood stairs are luxurious and practical. The large modern bathrooms with double sinks and separate shower and tub areas are brightly decorated in newly installed granite and reflect the light coming in from the generous and very private double balconies in each floor. The staff was very accommodating and helpful with each and all requests (including a rapid turn around for muddy laundry after a very wet hike in the levadas). Les Suites is truly the 6 star wing of The Cliffs. Book without hesitation. If I had to actively look for an area of improvement, the large king size beds are actually two double mattresses put together, which may be odd for some couples. Nonetheless, I would rank this as one of the very top island hotels in the Caribbean and North Atlantic- without question."
"We recently celebrated a special wedding Anniversary at this lovely new Hotel, Without exception every member of staff treated us with friendly and efficient professionalism. Our suite was contemporary and spacious with views of Funchal harbour and the lovely Gardens. The Avista restaurant served delicious beautifully presented food both for breakfast outside, and dinner inside the glazed area. Thank you Les suites for making our stay so special we look forward to returning."

Rua Dr. João Lemos Gomes nº29, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
"Actually I never used to travel to the same places multiple times. But with Quinta Jardins do Lago it´s different. I´ve already stayed at the hotel three times, twice with my family (in June and August) and in December 2019 I spent a week in the hotel by myself. It has certainly not been the last time as it really feels like a second home. One of the biggest contributors why I keep returning and why I love this hotel is the staff. The service is outstanding. Everyone is extremely helpful, genuinely friendly and the priority for the staff is the wellbeing of their guests. Whatever you need the staff members always try their best to make you feel comfortable and make things possible. The hotel itself was built in the 18th century and has a special and luxury charm. The rooms are big and bright. It´s easy to find a restful sleep because the beds are very comfortable and it’s a very quiet location. What makes the location also unique is the natural beauty of the lovely, well-looked after botanical garden with a huge selection of over 500 plants and its permanent resident named Colombo, a giant tortoise. As the climate in Madeira is very nice you can spend time in the beautiful garden throughout the whole year. You can even go for a swim in the heated swimming pool during wintertime. Right next to the pool is a restaurant that serves food and drinks. Breakfast can be eaten outside. I just love the selection of fresh fruit, which is served every day after being freshly picked from the hotel garden. In the evening it´s possible to have a delicious dinner at the cozy and chic hotel restaurant. In addition to an a la carte menu you can also choose your meal from the daily changing chef’s special. My advice is to definitely try the national dish Espada it’s delicious! At the hotel bar you can enjoy a wide selection of drinks. There is even some live music three times a week. From outside the hotel you´ll have a great view over Funchal, the island’s capital. It´s particularly magnificent in the evenings. Overlooking the city lights it does remind me of a starry sky. I´ve never been to Madeira over New Years eve but I would expect the fireworks to be stunning from this view. Quinta Jardins do Lago is located in Funchal. Walking to the main center will take around 15 minutes ish. However, there is also a shuttle bus that will take you to the city center and runs 6 times a day. During our last stays we also booked a rental car as it’s the best way to get around the island. Parking spaces are prohibited for the guests next to the hotel. To sum up I can highly recommend staying at Quinta Jardins do Lago. I can´t wait to be back in December. When I travelled to Madeira three weeks ago I did spend my holiday at the very gorgeous sister hotel Quinta da Casa Branca as Jardins do Lago had still been closed due to the renovations, which were carried out during the last months. A nice surprise was being invited to visit the rooms and the g"
"We stayed at this small hotel for the second time. It has quite a familiar atmosphere. The staff is very friendly with an utmost kind and personal service. Even the pool area and its bistro is very tranquil and relaxed. The rooms are spacious and functional furnished. And a special highlight ist the vast hotel park: a real botanical garden with plants and trees from all over the world well tended. And all this functioned extraordinarily well even in emergency time because of Covid-19. As the hotel is situated on a plateau above Funchal a shuttle service takes the clients in regular intervals down town and back to the hotel."
"My partner and I booked the hotel after reading a glowing review in a national daily last year and we were not disappointed. Sometimes the a 4 or 5 star hotel is flattering for a hotel, not Quinta Jardins do Lago. Everything from the professional & courteous staff (who couldn't do enough for you), food & drink and the stunning gardens was perfect. We will use this hotel and the overall experience as benchmark for our future travels. We plan on returning sometime in the not too distant future and we look forward to it."

Rua da Estalagem 23, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
"My wife and I stayed at the hotel for seven nights over Christmas. The accommodation is spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable, bathroom was also large and the decor very traditional. We were made very welcome by the staff who were all very friendly and helpful. Staying on a bed and breakfast basis the breakfasts were excellent with a choice of hot cooked or continental. Eggs can also be cooked to order if you require poached or scrambled. As we prefer to eat during the day and sample local restaurants we only had one evening meal at the hotel which was very good. The hotel also provides a shuttle service to and from Funchal which needs to be booked in advance. A shuttle also runs to the golf club - again advance booking is required. The hotel also organised some excursions and also a wine tasting all of which were complimentary to residents. The hotel grounds and gardens are lovely and all in all it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay."
"We visited his lovely family hotel in the hills above Funchal and were met with familiar friendly staff to begin our week of golf and relaxation. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, most have been there for some time which speaks for itself. Luis the restaurant manager cannot be more helpful and is one of the reasons we return year after year. The restaurant serves high quality food with excellent choice of wines. The facilities, apart from the undulating testing golf course adorned with amazing flowers, are very good including a large outdoor pool a little cool at this time of the year but a heated indoor pool in the spa area and tennis and badminton courts. The hotel is set in colourful gardens but is also next to the Palheiro gardens which one can step into easily to appreciate the tropical floral colours and scents. "
"Stayed in Andrew Picken suite on the upper floor with separate sitting room and bedroom, spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and jacuzzi bathtub, quiet and relaxing. Lovely hotel set in the beautiful Palheiro gardens and golf course, providing enjoyable walks. Nice view from the clubhouse which offers lunch. Great service dining in the cosy hotel restaurant, though food choice not extensive. Indoor swimming pool and spa is nice."

Rua da Casa Branca, 7, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
"It was by chance and due to Covid 19 rather than design that we stayed for 10 nights at the Quinta da Casa Branca in late October 2020. We are delighted that we did and shall certainly be returning. We took Covid tests at the airport and were most impressed by the efficiency. We went straight to our room once we got to the hotel that evening (we were there within 80 minutes of landing thanks to great efficiency and a private transfer) and awoke the next morning to text messages relaying negative results, so we got on with our holiday! What an impressive system! First impressions of the hotel in sunshine that morning were of amazement! We were enchanted to see the manicured lawns and beautifully kept gardens as we walked to the stunning Quinta for breakfast. It was a delight to eat our breakfast every morning on the terrace, by the lawn. What a treat! Breakfast was à la carte and truly delicious. Each day we savoured fresh fruit, homemade yoghurt and jams, home baked breads and pastries and a range of meats, cheeses, eggs and so on. That set us up nicely for the day! In fact, we didn’t eat much at all for lunch. Most evenings, before going out, we visited the bar for Happy Hour (50% on most drinks, so a great offer!). The barman, Vitor, was charming and looked after everyone superbly! We had opted for B&B and enjoyed sampling a range of restaurants each evening, selected from the very helpful Fork app (part of Tripadviser; many restaurants offer special discounts only via this app, so do use it!!!). We were able to eat extremely well for much less than it would cost in the UK and enjoyed every meal. The hotel boasts two swimming pools and we enjoyed a swim each day. Both pools are heated to 25C which was just about warm enough as long as you kept moving! The spotlessly clean pools were never busy and we got the impression that the hotel has ample space for its modest number of guests. It’s small enough to offer a really personal touch: the staff were lovely on my birthday and presented me with a delicious cake after breakfast and later a bottle of fizz and fresh flowers arrived in our room. Thank you! On one day guests were invited to see and even join in with the levada watering of the banana plantation in the gardens. Unsure what to expect, we and others joined in and really enjoyed meeting the team, from Manager to gardening staff, putting on some (brand new!) wellies and seeing first-hand the traditional Madeiran method of watering. After a short while we were all invited onto the lawn where samples of local food and drink – most of it grown/made on the hotel site – were offered around. The whole occasion was most enjoyable and a great idea. The hotel is located about 25/30 minutes’ walk into central Funchal. We enjoy walking and strolled into town most days; sometime twice! There are several easy routes, but they are all uphill on the return! We also hired a car for 3 days (via Zest, who were very good) and absolutely loved exploring"
"Just had the most wonderful week at Casa Branca where the nothing was too much trouble and we were treated like royalty. The breakfasts were some of the best food have ever had and dinner in the restaurant was also very good fine dining with portuguese flavours at its core. The cocktail bar was so relaxing in the evenings with great music and fabulous service. Have stayed in many hotels around the world and this one of the best."
"We spent a fabulous week - bed and breakfast - at the Quinta: the comfortable modern rooms lead directly on to the outstanding garden. Breakfasts in - or outside - the old house were a treat, served a la carte because of the pandemic. The grounds are magnificent; you would not guess that you are close to the centre of Funchal. The staff were all extremely friendly and attentive. Altogether very stylish in a pleasingly restrained way."
