Reviews From Real Travelers
I've been coming to KC about every other year or so, for approximately 20 years, for work. I almost always stay at The Raphael Hotel. PROS - The hotel has that unique, kind-of-eccentric feel to it that I've found in some Autograph hotels. It has a personality, and feels somewhat European - Great location. There are shops, restaurants, museums, and beautiful houses within walking distance - Friendly staff. Tracee, a front desk agent, was helpful. David has been helping me with my bags for 17 years, and I understand that Bob has also been there that long. - I collected Bonvoy points - I received a complimentary upgrade to a suite. I'd requested a quiet room via the chat function, and they assigned me a room at the end of the hallway - They recycle, and have moved away from small plastic bottles to large refillable bottles - Pretty views from the top floors - I always have a drink and its charmingly-named neighborhood restaurant/bar, Chaz. It's quirky, like the rest of the property. Last time, a guy sat at the bar with his dog. This time, they had a musical duo (two older gentleman). Live music in a small setting can sometimes be annoying, but these guys were enjoyable, and the room was into it - The basic five requirements were met: The room was clean. It was dark at night. I could control the temperature. It was quiet. The bed had a top sheet. CONS - While Chaz has a certain je ne sais quoi at night, it's a little dreary at breakfast time

Good location, nice rooms, small ”European-stlyle” feel to it. But could improve on some things. Doorman service is weak so be prepared to schlep your own bags. Parking is limited and can be a hassle and sometimes involves an outside walk in bad water. And pay attention to which room you are assigned -- they are not all created equal (particularly watch out for the lower level rooms which face onto the busy entry driveway -- and have NO elevator service). Beds good and shower good, though. Recommended with modest reservations.

Reviews From Real Travelers
I booked this hotel as I have not stayed here previously and wanted to try it out. The GM Jeff checked us in and noted that we have been upgraded in our room, though it appeared to be in the room I booked online. He told us that to get to our room, we should go outside to the parking garage elevators, go to the fourth floor, cross over to other elevators to get to the sixth floor where our room was located. We were surprised by this, and soon realized that if we just take the elevator right by our room straight down, we were at the elevators right next to the lobby, where we were checked in. Why we were given these bizarre directions, we have no idea. When going to bed, we noticed that there was dried blood on one of the pillowcases, along with an old stain on the comforter. We got rid of those and called the front desk to let them know about this. In their embarrassment, they comped us one night. The concierge service was OK but on the day of discharge after texting in the morning about extending the checkout time, I texted about getting help for getting our bags to our car and never got a response, so I contacted the front desk myself. A disappointing and gross experience and not really sure this hotel is worth the value that is placed on it. No idea why the GM gave these odd directions; is it so we don’t come back again?

This hotel is a gem of the midwest. The hotel was renovated a couple of years ago and the rooms have a clean, crisp appearance. You can't find a better spot in the Plaza during the summer months to enjoy their outdoor pool and there is no better place to see the Plaza lights than from one of their upper floor rooms. I stay here frequently, and just visited a couple of weeks ago and as always, it didn't disappoint. The best quality of the hotel is their staff. As a Diamond Ambassador, I am always warmly greeted, and the staff who have been there for years know me by name. The Concierge Lounge is one of the best you'll find anywhere in the country, and the service is impeccable -- you'll never have a better experience than Happy Hour with Don. You won't be disappointed.

This hotel is not high on the traveler ranked list in Kansas City, but I was hoping that since it is a Hampton that we would find good accommodations. They weren't terrible, mind you, but so many things could be better! We didn't meet a single pleasant person working at the front desk and as is typical of most hotels today, they need to clean better. The breakfast provisions ran out fairly quickly and many things were not replenished. What was there early on was a typical Hampton breakfast, but adequate. Parking is $18/day and while the lot seems ok, you have to walk down the alley and across the street to get to it from the hotel. The best part of the hotel, in my opinion, is its location on the streetcar. It's a short trip to Union Station and Crown Center.
- Guest User
Pros: Location - Proximity to streetcar & dining locations. Close to Convention Center Some rooms are large Large balconies Decent size in-room bar area with sink and mini fridge Pull-out couch Cons: Security - Doors to rooms do not latch fully without force. Can easily lean in to room doors to open. Noise - room to room noise, busy street, cars racing, constant sirens. But biggest issue is the noise from the A/C units. You will not get sleep here. Some staff - friendliness & competence vary widely. We reserved double queen room for multiple guests & were given a king instead. Front desk staff were neither sorry nor helpful. Said the hotel was full & nothing they could do. No offer to do anything. Cleanliness - almost everything about the room was dirty. Hard flooring not washed. Bathroom not clean (hair in sink, on toilet, on vanity, in shower). Hair on bedding. Not sure room was cleaned at all before our stay. There is also an unpleasant smell throughout hotel. Pantry - not a good selection.

Reviews From Real Travelers
I was close to changing hotels prior to staying based on poor reviews, but decided because of the location we could deal with any issues that may have been unsatisfactory. Good thing we kept our reservations here as their wasn't anything unsatisfactory about the trip. The front desk team was very nice and quick to get more towels or anything needed. The Shower was amazing which consistently stayed hot and high water pressure for 4 of us to use back to back. The location is very convenient to all of the downtown activities. They have a shuffleboard table in the lobby that we played often. We went to the PS Speakeasy in the basement of the hotel that was nice. The Restaurant located on site was easy to get drinks at. Valet parking is $30-$35, but we self parked at the garage next door for $18 and easy to get to. The only comment I would make is I wish they had a pantry as we had $30 F&B credit per day, but did not get to use a days worth based on our flight schedule, it would have been nice to use it.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The room had amazing views of downtown. I stayed on the 17th floor and it was a sight to behold with the clouds and birds flying in front of the tall buildings. The staff was very welcoming everyone said good evening and good morning. I loved that it is valet parking only. I can not say enough about this hotel it is perfect distance from the yard house and the T-Mobile arena. It is a perfect pick to stay.
