Platis Gialos Beach, Kefallinia, Ionian Islands, Greece
"White Rocks Hotel is situated between the coast road and the sea, approximately 15 minutes brisk walk from the centre of the linear resort of Lassi. 30 metres of this walk was along the edge of the road, with no footpath. Worth noting if walking with young children. We stayed at White Rocks during the first week of October. The hotel closed for the season on the day of our departure, so it was probably no more than 30% full. Due to the design and layout of the buildings, a critical consideration when booking a holiday at White Rocks is the choice of room, particularly in the busy seasons. The main choice is between traditional rooms in the main body of the hotel, or staying in a ‘Bungalow ’in the grounds. Bungalows offer more of a sense of independence, but are some distance from the main hotel. Important at meal times if it’s raining and/or dark. Some bungalows have their own swimming pool. Some ‘Sea View’ bungalows are nowhere near the sea, but there is a view of the water in the distance. Try to view a plan of the resort to decide which bungalow fits your needs. Decisions are necessary also when staying in a room in the main hotel. Some rooms, with balconies, face North towards the main road, which is bordered with trees and cliffs. Other balcony rooms face South towards the sea and some spectacular sunsets. Your choice! To the West of the main body of the hotel is what could be described as a ‘wing’. It’s attached to the main block, but in high season this ‘wing’ feature may be important to you. Directly below the balconies of all rooms in the main body of the building is a bar/terrace complex. The terrace and bar overlooking the sea closed for the season on 1st October, leaving only the ‘Lobby’ bar and its outside terrace open. The potential for noise below (and cigarette smoke) in high season could be an issue when relaxing on your balcony or sleeping with the sliding window open. Not an issue for us in low season. No problem at all. In high season?...... If you are bothered by this then maybe consider a room in the ‘wing’. No bars or terraces below, but some balconies may have marginally less privacy than others, depending on the floor location. Our room was a good size and very clean and bright indeed. A great sea view from the balcony, with table and chairs for two. There was a large, comfortable bed, tea/coffee making facilities and a mini bar. (See other posts about ‘The Rules’, including the ‘dress code, but these were not an issue for us). What seemed like millions of light switches providing an infinite number of lighting combinations! A couple of minor points about the adequately sized bathroom (with double basins). There was no walk-in shower. Just a bath that doubled as a shower. Personally, I thought that the bath was unnecessary and that a nice shower unit would have been better. Never mind! Second, was a matter which may not bother some, but did bother us. There is a window in the bathroom wall which is in direct line of si"
"This was my second stay at White Rocks and I loved it even more than the first time, if that is possible! We had a sea view room which was overlooking the public beach (not blocked by anything) and our room was always kept clean. The staff were all so lovely and accommodating, coming to help us within seconds when we were unable to work out the safe! We thoroughly enjoyed spending our days on the private beach, it is beautiful and peaceful. Yes, the water is rocky but there is one part in the middle which has a patch of sand which means you can get in with ease, don't let the rocks put you off. The beach is excellent for snorkelling and some fish come up to the surface quite close to the shore so everyone can see them. The food in the restaurant was stunning like last time, lots of variety and it all tasted delicious. Make sure you have a drink at any of the bars to watch the sunset; amazing! Thank you White Rocks for another fabulous stay."
"White Rocks Hotel is a absolutely fantastic hotel! The staff is absolutely wonderful and helpful in every way and especially the staff at the front desk together with the frontdesk manager! The hotel is situated at the sea and you have an absolutely lovely view from the hotel! The hotel suits you who want relaxation, calmness and mindfulness in a quiet place that is only accompanied by the sea. It is a very tasteful building that is clean and fresh. We also felt very safe. Me and my family absolutely loved this hotel and we will definitely come back! "

Main Street, Sami, Ionian Islands, Greece
"My daughter and I spent a week here from 12th Sept 2019. It is a lovely clean hotel. The pool area is excellent and the staff are really friendly. The walk to Sami is about 15 mins along the beach front and there are lots of nice restaurants reasonably priced. Our favourite restaurant though was the one closest to the hotel along the beach by the lake called Karavomilos Taverna - a 5 minute walk in the opposite direction. The reasons not to give 5* was firstly the gym. Half of the equipment was broken and unuseable and we wanted to use it (one reason we had chosen this hotel). Secondly the breakfast was disappointing for a 5* hotel and finally the toiletries weren’t replaced after use. "
"My husband and I have just enjoyed another fantastic massage treatment with Elizabeth in the Spa. She is a true professional and her treatments are outstanding.I have been a therapist for 35years in the UK and I can honestly say that Elizabeth is in the top echelon of therapists.I would recommend her with confidence, can’t wait until next Wednesday for the 3rd treatment of our holiday. Tracey and Jim Higham."
"Amazing place with Stunning view . Ideal location just by the sea and only a short walk to Sami town. Spacious clean Rooms and balconies with wonderful view . The pool area is clean and spacious. The pool bar offers the most refreshing cocktails in the island , Thanos ( the barman ) is the best. Nothing was too much for Helena and her polite and helpful staff. We will be back soon."

"We've just returned from a weeks stay at the Avra suites (2 adults & 2 children aged 9 and 6) - we booked the Amfitriti suite which had a kitchen, living room, bathroom, twin bedroom and double bedroom with en suite. The large balcony was overlooking Makris Gialos beach and had stunning views! The suite was beautifully decorated throughout and spotlessly clean. It was cleaned daily with fresh towels whenever needed. We'd read all the reviews so had high hopes for the breakfasts and my goodness they were amazing! You can choose what time you want it and you open the curtains and there it is, all laid out for you! Beautiful linen tablecloth and napkins and matching dishes. Each day there was a tasty omlette or homemade pie, fresh salad, olives, cheese, cereal, croissants and pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice, all the teas you could think of and the most amazing cake!! There was loads, enough to save for lunch which is what we did each day! Sitting on the balcony having breakfast was a highlight of the holiday! So relaxing, like paradise! I miss it already! Maria and the team were so helpful and friendly and really helped make the holiday. We will definitely return and urge people to book as you will not be disappointed!!"
"We stayed at Avra Suites for week, a truly wonderful experience. Maria and Alexandros were exceptional hosts as were their staff. Breakfast was an amazing surprise feast, laid out beautifully presented every morning on our terrace. All the produce was fresh from the garden and traditionally cooked everyday. Our room was tastefully decorated to a high standard and spotlessly clean. Lots of nice touches, quality products with lots of attention to detail. Bathroom & swimming towels were changed daily, nothing was too much trouble from all the team . The location and position of the property was incredible with stunning panoramic views of the bay and sunset making it a truly unique place. Just a short walk through the garden down the steps to a beautiful Makris beach where there are small bars and restaurants with free sunbeds to relax. My only wish was that we had better weather, we were unlucky as we had a lot of rain. We highly recommend Avra and would definitely visit again,"
"Well the other comments left were all true. The apartment we are staying in is beautuful. We can see the sea from our bed and literally roll out on to the terrace. The terrace itself is lovely and fantastic views over the sandy beach. Now the breakfasts-where do I start. Each day a different cloth/napkins/plates etc. The attention to detail is superb and as for the food, fantastic choice each morning lovingly prepared and served with a big genuine smile. I have stayed in many hotels/apartments and this is in my top 5. It will be hard to leave but will return I am sure. Places to visit- Fiscardo a must, Assos pretty and Myrtos Beach divine. The beach here below us is very nice with a lovely beach bar. The coast line is very unspoilt and nice walks to be taken."

Vallianou Square,Argostoli, Argostolion, Ionian Islands, Greece
"The Aenos Hotel is located very conveniently on Valianou Square just a short stroll up from the harbour. From the movement you enter the cool lobby and are greeted by the excellent staff on the front desk you feel relaxed and at home. We were checked in by Dora who couldn’t do enough for us during our stay, I would also like to mention Olga and Maria too. Nothing was too much trouble for these lovely ladies who provide the guests with excellent information and tips for getting the most out of their holiday. The email correspondence before our arrival was also answered perfectly and promptly too. The Aenos has been totally refurbished and is kept super clean by the lovely Katie who looked after our room. The quality of the linens and the beds were so comfortable, we had a small balcony which was most welcome and the quality of the breakfast each day was excellent with many options and some really tasty baked items, home made marmalade and a delicious selection of breads. Everything is right on your doorstep yet you would never know that you are in the centre of Argostoli as you don’t hear a sound through the triple-glazed windows. The hotel is in a perfect location and so luxurious, a wonderful stay indeed."
"we had a 2 bedroom family room which was two seperate rooms opposite each other at the end of the hallway with your own private door that could be closed to allow both rooms to remain open in privacy, such a great set up! the rooms were nice and bathrooms were modern, beds comfy. block out curtains could be a little better/better placed to stop light coming in (we like total darkness though). breakfast was nice with a good selection. bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper as it is in a top location right on the square so can be a bit noisy during the night. staff were very friendly, nice and helpful. water bottles were supplied free every day and you could get more from the bar if you needed. the bathrobes were so soft and luxurious! free parking was about a 5 minute walk away."
"Hotel is in the centre of Argostoli- in front of the main square, close to shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Rooms are modern and well kept. Room is spacious and pleasant with daily bottles of water. Breakfast is as expected in most hotels. Staff were very friendly, in particular Gregory who is an asset to the hotel- friendly, informative (places to eat/ things to do) and very attentive. He was the ‘life of the party’. He was the face of the hotel- here day and night, ensuring we were ok. His presence made the stay even more pleasurable! Only negative is the smell from the bathroom for two days which disappeared. I would recommend a stay here. Thank you Aenos"

Lassi, Paleostafida Beach, Argostolion, Ionian Islands, Greece
"We arrived on the a Sunday following the Medicane (tropical cyclone) on the Friday, the island had been badly hit and the hotel was still trying to recover - Angela and her staff were there to meet us when we arrived and explained what had happened and what they were having to deal with, but with such a positive and can-do attitude, it was all about making us feel comfortable and for getting the place back in shape so we could enjoy our holiday. Trees had come down, rooms flooded from the rains and the beautiful open plan bar had been turned on its head - incredibly they’d pretty much fixed this by the Monday, only for heavy rains and thunder and lightening, like we’ve never seen before, to hit again on Tuesday, so they had to repeat the clean up exercises all over again, as well as deal with a period without electric again.. they still managed to provide food and drinks, and our rooms fixed really quickly and nothing was too much for the staff - all of them were courteous, pleasant and hard working staff. We were given a room on the first floor looking out to beautiful sea views, the rooms are boutique and have everything you need for a comfortable stay - they have put a lot of time and expense into making this a level higher than most other accommodation we saw when there (or online before). We only ate breakfast and some lunches, but they did try to provide vegan/veggie options, maybe less so of an evening, when it was limited to tomato pasta or something, but we wanted to get out and about anyway (lots of places within a comfortable walking distance) - if we had have stayed in I have no doubt that they would have cooked something lovely up for us. Angela really takes the time to make sure everything is just right, she even went out of her way to loan me her own iron and ironing board, when we’d neglected to bring our own travel iron - she’d also taken on board our emails ahead of time and gave us a room that fit the bill perfectly, so our anniversary trip could be special. Overall 5/5, considering everything they’d been through, and it was all about making it special for us regardless. We met nice fellow guests when there (who had been prepared also to spend a little extra to stay there) and the staff were lovely too. Location is perfect for views, bar and restaurant options, there’s also the smallest bar (well caravan) on the smallest beach about 100 metres away, that is a quirky option that shouldn’t be missed. We’ll go back hopefully - it definitely deserves another visit (hopefully without the cyclone 😂)."
"First time visiting the island of Kefalonia. I’m a very discerning tourist frequenting the Ritz Carlton and St Regis. The rooms were exceptionally clean and also the grounds of the hotel were well maintained. I Hotel staff was exceptionally helpful with all my questions and nice. The food was simple but extremely flavorful with Greek flavor at the restaurant on the hotel grounds. Cocktails were exactly were they should be for the price point. The hotels locations is superb and in walking distance of a beautiful beach. I stayed in the newly refurbished deluxe sea view suite and was blown away with the room amenities, comfortable bed, and sea views. Breakfast was a bit hectic but since I had the option of ordering room service I didn’t bother going down for breakfast. I have already booked my suite for next season. Special mention to Natalia at the reception desk and Mario’s at the Alaia lounge bar for their exceptional service."
"What a fab place we chose to spend our wedding anniversary. The room (627) was fab with spectacular views. The breakfast was limited in choice however, fresh and served with a smile. The lunch time choices were fine and we sampled the small plates with a shout out for the Tzatki and the night time wine and cocktails were fab with an happy hour to boot. Pool area was immaculate and the bar was well attended by a future ships captain in charge! Studying whilst ensuring we were well looked after. All of the staff deserve a mention as they all made us welcome and nothing was too hard for them. The maids who kept our room clean deserve a call out for the way they got on with their tasks with a smile on their faces behind their PpE. If you visit Lassi then the Thalassa hotel is well worth staying in. "

Kounopetra Mantzavinaton, Paliki, Ionian Islands, Greece
"Let's start with the positive points The people who work their butts off to please holiday makers are a dream team 😇 they made our stay worth while and are real sweethearts. First impression we were greeted by a bubbly smiling lovely lady named Irini She was wonderful and works day and night with a smile on her face to keep the resort clean and tidy, and my children adored seeing her each day throughout our visit. Room was always fresh and clean throughout our stay and the view was stunning of the ocean. Pools were adequate never over crowded and always free sunbeds so no rush in the mornings(possibly due to less people because of covid?) Bar staff makis and vaggelis were cheeky chaps and always service with a smile. Special mention to George who never failed to please and was always very fun and happy to talk and laugh with us, nothing was ever too much and it was always service with a smile from this lovely man. Christos the gentleman who sees us in to the food hall was always smiling and very polite and happy to see us. The animation team WOW!! Ewa the young lady on kids club is just something special, she smiles and smiles some more the kids adore her and her fun activities, she always goes the extra mile to keep the kids entertained day and night. Klaudia full of energy and enthusiasm ALL the time! Shes crazy energetic and always does has a smile on her face. Andrei what a breath of fresh air a man who truly loves his job and is eager to please a fantastic people person and again Smiley cheeky chap. Our biggest con the food... We are not fussy eaters and always happy to give any food a try but wow the salt. It's all very very salty and was warm at best the queue for breakfast was ridiculous we understand given covid that people cant be placed near eachother, but even when being asked to book a table we had to wait 45min because they wouldnt enforce table bookings and so most didnt bother. Bar snacks pahaa!!! Ok so bar snacks consist of biscuit or cake.... no sandwich or crisp or even chips ... just plain Madeira or biscuits... Coffee is good and soft drinks are good. Front of house day reception staff arent great and often come across rude and abrasive but night gentleman was sweet and helpful. Only by being here for a fortnight did we discover what was included and what wasnt so a nice list would be good the cocktails on all inclusive are tasty but we did not know we were allowed them until one week in. Toilet area near pool often floods out and the drainage could do with being better as it does flood and gets very wet under foot I'll add this is due to wet guests not the actual toilet water but still gets kind of slippy and gross which only good drainage could tackle and solve. Due to covid coffee making facilities have been removed from rooms but are available on request. Also the free shuttle bus is not running again due to covid."
"Love this place we have been a few times it's a bit out of the way but there is a free bus and also a local bus which takes you to lixouri where you can get the ferry to agostolli if you go early across to agostolli head for the fishing boats and you'll see the turtles we flew with jet 2 they have a number of trips which are worthwhile if you don't mind driving you can hire a car from the hotel or there are push bikes for the more energetic this place is a short walk to the beach or you can just laze around the pool I will say if you go be aware that you get dropped off in agostolli and then you catch the ferry to lixouri you will get vouchers for the ferry"
"We visited this hotel for one week and we really enjoyed our holiday! The room was cozy and clean, they cleaned everyday very properly. Food was excellent, big choice. Beach next to hotel was a bit dirty from the sea the first day, but then it was fine. The beach is perfect for kids! It’s big there’s enough space for everyone and water is not cold. Our kids also visited Kidsclub and they loved it! They also enjoyed waterparc which is located right behind hotel! Super close! Evenings were always fun thanks to animation team, they made very nice shows! Thank you for great vacation! :)"
