"A visit to Le Royal Beirut transports you to the glittering French Riviera. A team of bellhops stand on the ready at the end of the long cobblestone driveway. An attractive concierge is on alert on the other side; everyone waiting to serve you alone. The hotel is reviving an iconic portion of the world with more than a fresh coat of paint. Le Royal Beirut is a sophisticated destination for celebrating your passion and romance in the suburbs of the entertainment capital of the Middle East. From the largest art collection in the region to elegant décor, fine cuisine, European-inspired verandas, two-hundred and seventy degree views of the Mediterranean Sea and an incredible spa, the hotel evokes the enchantment and spirit of the Paris of the Middle East. The drama unfolds upon arrival and unfolds in a series of unforgettable experiences and sets the scene for a couple’s romance. Classic European style, fine craftsmanship and authentic details elevate the Le Royal high above the ordinary. The spectacularly huge floral arrangement that dominates this hotel’s small foyer hints at the opulence of the 231 rooms and suites, which have a glamorous upscale vibe, tempered by pops of earthtones and coral, sumptuous fabric, custom furniture and luxurious bathrooms with tubs, showers and bidets. Pamper yourself at the Royal Spa, a three floor, 37,000 square foot oasis of health and wellness. Imagine the two of you immersed in a world of relaxation and rejuvenation in one of the custom-built massage rooms, each with a holistic, three-pillar methodology to spa health. In some massage rooms there have side-by-side tables where honeymooners can be soothed while holding hands. Combining body and facial care, nutrition and physical activity with a Hammam and mud baths, the Royal Spa is just the inspiration needed to jumpstart your well-being. The magic of a Beirut afternoon comes to life poolside with the extravagant, palm tree-lined mega-pool. With panoramic majesty, an afternoon drink breathing in the rarified air of the Mediterranean serves as the elixir to escape all your world’s woes. Treat each other to indulgent gifts from the designer boutique and stop for a cappuccino and petit fours cookies at luxurious, couch-lined open-air lounge that morphs away from the foyer seamlessly. Start the evening toasting each other at the Titanic, a rooftop piano bar with the best sushi this side of the Orient. Eye-catching Titanic-themed original paintings from Tripoli artist Malak Adra, authentic maritime décor and live jazz makes for an entertaining evening if don’t want to fight traffic for ten miles to one of the hotspots downtown. "Overall I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It was far better than the hotel I stayed at in the center of Beirut. However, there is room for improvement RESERVATION I also booked a conference room with tea and lunch for 2 days. The day before arrival I called to that confirm everything was in order and asked if it was possible to have an early check-in and a sea view room. The receptionist said I could check-in at 12:30 and get a sea view room. Upon check in, I was given a room on the 5th floor and no sea view, while my colleagues had rooms on higher floors. It was later changed to a sea view room on the 12th floor. One would think that a hotel would give preferential treatment in room accommodations to the person who booked the reservations as s/he is the one who is giving them the business over dozens of other hotels available. FACILITIES The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. The reception bar is welcoming and there are several restaurants to choose from. The room is spacious with a lovely balcony. It was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The conference room suited our needs perfectly. NOISE The first evening there was a wedding reception and the celebration could be heard all night long. I was told that it would only be for that evening, which was true. However, what I did not know, which is beyond the control of the hotel, is that there is another reception venue just two blocks away, and I could hear wedding celebrations the next night as well. PRICE I called to make a reservation for myself and 4 colleagues staying for 4 nights. They quoted a price of $340/night + VAT. Fortunately, I looked on the Amex travel site because I wanted my reward points and found the room for $270 including VAT. One of my colleagues, who is Lebanese, called the hotel and was quite a price of $250 per night. The price of being a foreigner. Basis WiFi to check email is free. However, high speed WiFi is $20 per day, which is a rip off. Fortunately, it was a business expense for me. However, for this reason alone, I would not stay here for leisure. FOOD Overall the food is very, very good. The lunch for our business meeting on Sunday was upgraded to the international buffet, which was AMAZING. So much food to choose from and ALL of it was delicious. I long for that buffet even as I write this. The lunch for our business meeting on Monday was the sea bass as planned, and it was also delicious. My mouth waters just thinking about it. On my last night I ate at the Titanic restaurant. The food was mediocre. I had a chicken Cesar salad and chicken wings. The chicken on the salad was very dry, and there was too much dressing on the salad and sauce on the wings. However, the service from Joey was top notch! SERVICES - "If you need something done right, do it yourself." I called 90 minutes before I needed some documents printed to inquire what steps I needed to take for this. I was told to email the file to reception. Fortun"
