Via Mariano Stabile 139, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
"We had originally booked to stay in a city centre apartment for our visit to Palermo but unfortunately the day before we were due to fly out we were contacted by the owner who advised that there was a major problem with the plumbing and we would need to cancel. We at once looked for a replacement and came across the Hotel Serena on booking.com for a little bit extra in cost but booking would refund the difference. The photos of the rooms and the hotel itself looked quite nice and all rooms are advertised to have a city view. However just like anyone meeting someone off Tinder for the first time and discovering that your date for night looks nothing like their profile picture you are in for a big surprise. We contacted the hotel and advised we would be arriving at 12 and it was confirmed this was ok and we would not be charged extra. We arrived at 12:15 and after walking over a mile in extremely heavy rain we were pretty wet and just wanting to get into our room and freshened up. The hotel itself is accessible through a door in the street and we rang the bell several times before going upstairs. We were greeted by a female member of staff who just shouted "Passports" at us. We were then told in Italian that we had to wait. An offer of a small towel would have been appreciated at this point. When we did get into our room shortly after we had several orders barked at us and were left in the darkest room we have ever stayed in. We thought we would open the curtains to look at our city view and let some light in. What we found was filthy air conditioning units, rotten clothing and rubbish everywhere. The bathroom was very dirty and the bathroom window would not close so the mozzies had a free buffet. On the first morning we were woken at around 6am by shouting / very loud chatting. We realised this was the staff in reception. This continued for a few hours making it impossible to sleep. We are not lazy people and often work 16 hours a day at home so a lye in past 6am is nice on holiday. The male staff were originally quite nice, if not abrupt but the main female member of staff is very rude. We opened our door to go out on the first day and before even closing our door she shouted goodbye to us. On returning that evening we found our bed had not been made and all they had done was thrown fresh towels in the room. We decided to look for somewhere else and asked if it was possible to check out early. We were advised they were ok with this but Booking would not allow it. We then contacted booking and after a few hours it was sorted that we could leave but the hotel would be charging us an extra day. To be honest we were just happy to leave. When we left the hotel that day before our last evening we were told abruptly they knew we were leaving and they needed a credit card. Being overly caution I said I would pay cash and also asked for a receipt. I would also say that every conversation was in Italian - This is obviously understandable as"

"We stayed for 4 nights in September and loved every minute. We had room 4 which is the suite and it was well worth the extra money with terrace at the back with hot tub, balcony at the front and panoramic windows. A small hotel with limited facilities but that is the beauty of a boutique hotel. Well positioned with a gentle stroll in to town and to the beach. What really stood out were the staff - they were fantastic and couldn’t do more for you - special shout out for Monica, Marina and the 2 men who’s names we didn’t catch - one of whom spoke 5 languages !! As a nod to COVID - your temperature was tested everyday and plenty of sanitisers, the place was spotless- felt very safe"
"We stayed here for one night in room 7 at the end of our Sicily tour. It was the perfect place to unwind before flying out! Our flight was a 7pm and we were allowed to use the pool and terrace for as long as we wanted after checking out. PERFECT SERVICE! I am not sure you want to stay here if you want to visit for example Palermo. It is not very close to the city! The beaches look nice, but are very crowded. At least during saturday and sunday when we were there. Looking for a pool and a perfect placr to relax? This is your best choice!!"
"My husband and I stayed here for three nights and didn’t want to leave! The staff is extremely attentive and polite. We loved the clean pool and sun chairs for lounging. The rooftop has such a beautiful view! Good breakfast and even will make you light lunch options which are fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Mondello Beach. We literally tried to extend our stay and would have if they weren’t already booked up!"

"From the pictures on the website, I was expecting this to be a little nicer. I wish I could give this 3.5 stars, not 3, as I was satisfied and in general didn't expect it to be like a fancy spa hotel, but was expecting it to be a little nicer. Pros and Cons: Pros: - We got a great price and the staff was very nice (though only one front desk person spoke very good English, but he was there most of the time and checked is in/out and helped call us a cab). -Access to the private beach area was included and we got two chairs, a table, and umbrellas. The public beach area is small, so it was nice to have space. Note, this is a beach where locals go, it's not super fancy, it has a very local feel (which we liked! but if you are expecting the fanciness of the Amalfi Coast, this is not that). -Breakfast was included (but it was just OK), which was good because limited options around. -They were able to store our bags on our last day, since we had to check out at 11 and weren't leaving until 2, and let us go to the pool (we did that for a few hours, then went down the street to a restaurant for lunch, then came back to get our bags and get in our cab that they had called earlier and was already there). -The pool was very nice and clean. Never crowded (though we were there at the end of the summer season, so in general it was not crowded). -There was a safe and we used it and had no issues with it. -Room had a little terrace and a nice view of the beach. Cons: -Bed was VERY uncomfortable - very hard, not enough pillows, and it was one of the double beds that is two twins pushed together, so one of us kept falling into the crack. -I found a couple of ants in the room :( -In general the hotel could use a little freshening up - new paint (walls had scuffs and were fading), updated sheets etc. -No ATM on site (and most places only take cash in Palermo and the only ATM was a 10-15 minute walk to a bank near a gas station). -We had dinner there the first night, because we got in pretty late and were tired, and it was not very good. -The hallways were very echo-y, so you could hear people walking/talking and opening and closing doors. -The AC in our room made a ticking noise which made it hard to fall asleep without ear plugs. Overall, our stay was fine. I think you have to take this into the context of the area, too. This is generally where locals are coming to hang out at the beach, and there are a few hotels and B&Bs around. We stayed here for three nights in the middle of a two week Euro trip (I am 80% Sicilian, my grandparents emigrated from Sicily, so wanted to visit for that reason, too!) so this was a nice break. I did really enjoy the beach and pool. A few things to note about the area: a lot of places take cash only, and the ATM is far; also, limited restaurants by the beach area (there are more in the city, but we only went in for half a day, we stayed here for the beach)."
"Breakfast is relatively rich, the standard of domestic 3 star or economic hotel. 10 kilometers from the city center, the surrounding is relatively quiet, not as chaotic as the city, parking is free, you can see the sea, in the city to the airport halfway, very convenient. I will continue to choose here next time. Need to drive."
"I enjoyed my stay of 11 nights. I found my room to be perfect for my needs. My housekeeper was sweet and trustworthy. The pool is big and clean. The private beach is money!! OMG, the breakfast, cannoli, espresso, breads, cheeses, pastries, on and on."

Via Della Libertà 63, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
"This hotel is VERY well air conditioned which is very much appreciated when visiting Palermo in August. Our room had two rooms and might have been a suite - it had a living area with a couch and a bedroom. The hotel is overlooking a beautiful garden and about a 5 minute walk from the busy part of town. It has a gym and breakfast was included in our rate. They had free wifi that worked well. Our room had a spa bathtub which is unusual for Europe. Our reception was very strange - I think there was a communication barrier because another guest arrived immediately before we did but we had to haul in our own luggage, despite me asking for help. There are stairs to get up to the hotel so I would have appreciated it if someone got our luggage. The staff is not smiley when you check in - this might be a cultural thing but it was not very welcoming in. We were hot and tired and so lugging our own baggage and then not being greeted warmly gave me a bad first impression. However, the hotel is very nice and the room was big and the air conditioning was great. Would have been nice if they provided free water in the room. The soap and shampoo were very small. They offered a free razor and tooth brush. Room has robes and slippers. Might want to bring your own hair dryer because this one is attached to wall and not very forceful. The staff ended up being very helpful and I liked my stay overall."
"We stayed here for a week in late September. Our room had a small balcony that overlooked part of the adjacent park. The room was clean, and they somehow always managed to clean it quickly, so that by the time we finished having breakfast on the roof the room would be clean again. One complaint about our room is that while it had two bathrooms, one of them had a terrible smell to it so we just kept that one closed the entire time (we never actually mentioned the smell to anyone.) Something else to note is that the key to enter the room has to be inserted into a slot after you enter in order for the room to have power (this may be how it’s done in Sicily in general, as we had to do the same in another hotel.) Breakfast is available on the roof every morning. The food was mostly decent, but you are treated to some nice views. The hotel is a bit of a walk to get to the center of Palermo; we enjoyed the long walk as it probably was needed from all the eating that we were doing - but it may be too far for those that are not able to do long walks. There is a Jacuzzi but I think you have to reserve it - it was covered during our time. There is a bar next to the lobby and it’s not terribly overpriced. Overall, the staff was very friendly and I think it’s a pretty decent place to stay."
"It was nice hotel with a few old telephones and typewriters as deco. It is located near a high end retail stores shopping area. I especially like the nice garden next door, and the easy one minute walk to airport express bus. We also found very nice restaurants within easy walking distance. In fact we had a nice evening and nice dinner near by."

PIAZZA CASSA DI RISPARMIO 17, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
"We stayed at this upscale hotel for four nights in early July, 2019 and we found this hotel to be very clean, sophisticated and in a phenomenal location. The staff were very helpful and offered great advice to us during our time spent in Palermo. We reserved two rooms and both had balconies which offered views of the side streets below and the rooms were tastefully designed and made coming back to the hotel after a long day of touring in the Palermo heat very welcoming. The breakfasts were tasty and varied and the valet service for our car was prompt and a very useful (there was a minor incident but the hotel was very helpful in resolving it). Palermo is a very eclectic, raw and historic city filled with so much character and remains one of those places that one must see and experience at least once in a lifetime. This hotel made Palermo that much better."
"I cannot say enough about how fantastic this hotel is. The rooms are beautifully renovated and furnished, incredibly clean and well-appointed. The breakfast has liberal hours and it's delicious. The location is perfect for exploring the Centro and also easy to get in and out of to the airport and to visit other towns. But the most important part of this hotel is the staff. From the moment we checked into the moment we left we felt like we were among friends and they couldn't have been kinder. One of us is in a wheelchair and the staff took special care to make sure the ramp into the hotel was always clear from vehicles and assisted us with getting a driver to visit Cefalu and also Villa Romana. And even the driver they found for us became a friend! If it is within your means to stay at this hotel please do so. You won't be sorry!"
"We were 9 family members of all ages who stayed 5 nights at this hotel during New Year's. We cannot say enough about how lovely this hotel is starting with decor, room size, its breakfast , its location and last but not least its employees. Marcia, Marina and Vincenzo were absolutely so professional, helpful and caring. They went out of their way to make sure that we were enjoying ourselves and that everything went according to plan. Kudos to all ! Keep up the excellent work !"

Foro Umberto I, 22/B, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
"The room was clean and tidy and the breakfast was very good. It is recommended to have a balcony room facing the sea and watching the sunrise. 1 km from the train station, you can walk to attractions such as Sijiaochang. From the airport to the hotel in the evening, I took a VAN and bargained 60 Euros."
"The room is OK, it looks like it is decorated and tastes. The surrounding environment is not very good. On the edge of the city, you can see the sea across the road."
"Really enjoyed the stay"

Via SantOliva, 8, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
"I stayed here for a few nights during a short trip to Sicily. The hotel is in a nice fairly quiet location, but is reasonably close to the main pedestrian street and plenty of restaurants and tourist sites. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and include all the usual amenities. If possible, try to get a room facing the front of the hotel, since these have small balconies. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet is excellent. All things considered, this hotel is a very good value for your money, and I would definitely recommend it."
"A very good 4 star hotel with 39 rooms situated in a quiet road a stone's throw away from the centre of the city. All the staff were extremely helpful, kind and knowledgeable. They also spoke English. A very pleasant breakfast room with an excellent buffet. The parking facilities cost Euros 10 per day. The only minor "fly in the ointment" was that some of the furniture in our room looked rather "tired" and could have done with a "spruce up"."
"This was a good hotel to be near the centre of Palermo. It is an easy walk to the old quarter. The room was comfortable and quite spacious. There is no restaurant in the hotel but restaurants are near. The hotel serves breakfast and it is very good and not expensive. It is in a quiet and safe area of the town yet central. The staff were helpful and friendly."

Via Principe Di Granatelli 60, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
"The hotel is located near the center of the town of Palermo. Our room was reasonable in size, typical of European hotels. However, it was hard to find enough room for our luggage and other things. There was no desk or chair in our room to work at, or to use a laptop computer. There was no clock radio to use as an alarm in the morning. No matter, we brought our own alarm and did not need to use a laptop. However, the toilet flushed poorly (others in our group said theirs didn’t work at all). The shower (no bathtub) was modern and roomy, but lacked a place to hang a towel for when we stepped out. And it was very sensitive to others' use of the water elsewhere in the hotel - the temperature varied from too cold to too hot. There was no bar soap - only liquid soap. Bring a washcloth, as they provide none. In the middle of the first night the water was shut down for repairs. When the hot water was turned on in the morning it ran very dirty for several seconds until it cleared. Then it was okay. Throughout the first night the temperature in the room was a cold 66 degrees Fahrenheit. The A/C would not respond to adjustments from the room, nor could the A/C be turned off completely, and the cold air came out of a vent aimed directly at the bed. After requesting a repair the next morning, we were told it had been fixed. Later that day, when we returned to our room, it was a very hot 79 degrees. After our second request for repair, it finally worked as required. The second night was much better. Temperature was fine - and seemed to respond to the room thermostat adjustments. And the shower was much more stable. There’s hope. The breakfast buffet was good, and had a variety of hot and cold items. In the evening, when we asked the desk for simple change for a 10 Euro note (for a housekeeping tip), the desk was unable or unwilling to provide it. We were also told that we could not get change at the hotel bar. Not very helpful. In total, I believe that this hotel could be excellent. The physical location and the basic design of the rooms was very good. However, it has a way to go. All of the things that make for excellent reviews are missing. Others in our group agreed with our assessment. The hotel generally seemed to be unwilling to go the extra mile for its guests."
"Good value for money. Central hotel near turistic spots which made it easy to walk and come back with August heat. Quite unhelpful staff, not being able to answer many questions nor keen to explain Italian ways so we could decide where to head after... In all it was ok."
"This hotel is a typical city hotel. Modern, clean, but very impersonal. Parking a bit tricky, and expensive. Valet parking. Rooms were modern, but very dark. Breakfast good. Would have liked a coffee machine in the room. "
