Reviews From Real Travelers
It's hard to decide what the best feature of this hotel was. The location is excellent because it is on the edge of the commercial district, and not directly in it, as some of the other hotels we considered staying in were. This meant it was quiet and peaceful but still only a few minutes walk to the center of town. The hotel itself feels more like a private home than a hotel which made it feel really personal. The staff was excellent and could not have been more helpful and friendly. The room was mostly comfortable with a very comfortable bed, nice bathroom, good towels, etc. Our only complaint was that the air conditioning in our room (number 26) was under powered and the only unit in the room was on the opposite side of the room than the bed. Even with the thermostat set to the lowest temperature, the room was too warm overnight. If not for this, I would give the hotel 5 stars. Overall though, this is a great hotel and very worth staying at.

We had a marvelous 3 days at the Van Cleef in Bruges. The service is exquisite, the rooms are sumptuous and the breakfast on the terrace overlooking the canal is magical. The staff was outstanding and recommended + booked meals at two excellent restaurants. They also gave us good guidance on the best walking tours through the city. Highly recommended!

Reviews From Real Travelers
The common spaces were charming, but the rooms were disappointing. The first room they offered me was dark and depressing (this is a comment mentioned in other reviews), so they proposed another one on the top floor, but it did not have a safe. Finally, the third one was bright and had a safe. There is no A/C so it was very uncomfortable during warm nights. There is a small fan supplied, but if you wish to open the windows, be prepared to battle the mosquitos (there is a canal just outside). There were traces on the ceiling of crushed mosquitos from previous guests and some live mosquitos were in my room when I checked in! Anything that is not included in the daily cleaning routine is never cleaned. There is accumulated dust on many surfaces, especially black wood furniture frame. This includes the sofa in front of the lobby check in desk and any surface in the room, even the fold out tray to put your suitcase. The paint of the wood tray for the water bottle is peeling away (not sure if this is a design intention). There were traces of lipstick on one of the white bathroom towels. The sink faucet in the bathroom was faulty and hard to open. There is no soundproofing, so you hear every footstep and squeak above your head (the other guests better be quiet!). Because the rooms are fitted in an old building, some spaces (like in bathrooms) do not have proper clearances (see other guest reviews). At night, forget the ambiance in the room, there are two recessed ceiling spotlights that flood the whole room, no specific desk lamp or accent lighting. The only other option are the bedside lights, but they are not enough to give sufficient lighting. My worst experience was with management. After realizing at check in that there was no A/C (my mistake), I wanted to book another hotel for the second night. They said they would refund me if they found someone to take my room for the second night or else I would have to pay, which I thought was a fair proposal. So I cancelled my online reservation to make the room available. The next day, they refused to say if they rented the room and told me they would keep the money even if they did. If they had no intention of refunding me, they should have said so instead of lying and collecting two rentals (including breakfast) for the same night! Disappointing. I would never recommend this place.

This is a friendly hotel in a fantastic location to discover Bruges. The staff are super friendly and offered advice on the best places to visit and eat while in Bruges. The rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are very comfortable. I would stay her again if we came to Bruges again.

From start to finish the stay at this hotel was amazing. Our room had the most glorious view of the canal and made our honeymoon so very special. The location was superb with easy walking to all the attractions. We loved the charm and extra care taken when requesting tea and coffee which was brought to our room. Fabrina at reception was a delight and I’m not quite sure if our stay would have been the same without her. My husband is a huge movie buff so staying at the same hotel where ‘In Bruge’ was shot really made his day. We will definitely stay here again!!

This hotel was the cherry of my entire trip. Cozy, elegant, luxurious and warm, all at the same time. Great location Gorgeous rooms, gorgeous bathroom, gorgeous hotel. The room for breakfast is beautiful with views of the canals, tapestries on the walls, and a beautiful fireplace. They have two or three original Boteros. The service is superb too. I can’t comprehend how this hotel is not a 5 star. If you come to Bruges and do not stay at this hotel, you miss out big time.

Lovely hotel, very centrally located with loads of charm . The rooms are large, kept spotlessly clean and are well - appointed . The breakfasts , taken in a very elegant dining room , are fantastic , from the freshly- squeezed orange juice to the fresh croissants and pains au chocolat and the excellent coffee. There are also bacon eggs and sausages available as well as a selection of meats and cheeses . The hotel is run by a friendly couple who are keen to make your stay as pleasant as possible . Can’t recommend this hotel enough and certainly for the rates, in what is otherwise a very expensive city, it’s a bargain .

Thank you so much for a fabulous day. You were amazing. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. Perfect location with a wonderful decadent ambiance. As for breakfast we couldn’t have wished for anything better. My mum is coeliac and so we are used to having to make do food wise. But not here, the breakfast choice was the best we have ever seen. I can’t recommend you highly enough for your care an consideration and for giving my mum so much joy at breakfast. We intend to return to Bruge and there is no where else we would want to stay. Until next time :-)

We are staying in a junior suite with breakfast. €620 for 3 nights. The hotel is small and beautifully formed with 32 rooms. The staff are extremely helpful and know you by name. Our room (109) is spacious and immaculately clean. The sofa and bed are both very comfortable, the shower has great water pressure and there is a bath, that I wasn’t expecting in a small city hotel. The room is in keeping with the style of the hotel and indeed the area. There is also a small balcony. Breakfast is for those who enjoy slow starts with very tasty food cooked to order and a glass of fizz. Lovely little bar and lounge area too. The place rubs off on customers too who are all so friendly. If in Bruges, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

A truly lovely boutique hotel right in the heart of Bruges. Staff were so welcoming and did everything to make the stay a real treat. It was clean, had lovely rooms that were elegantly decorated. The freshly cooked breakfast was a fantastic way to start the day. Will defiantly return.

Beautifully appointed historic hotel in a fabulous location, right on a canal. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit early but not to worry, they offered some refreshments out on their patio while we waited, which was a very nice touch. Hotel and room was very clean, very nice modern bath and luxury amenities. Breakfast was very good with lots of variety of wonderful meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurts and breads. We really enjoyed our stay and a bonus is it is next to a very nice brewery, in case you get thirsty!

Amazing hotel!! 5 stars!! The breakfast is luxurious, and they even offer Champagne. They also offered us complimentary champagne once we got there. We got a room facing the canal and the view was magical. The room looked like a fairytale from an older century. I would definitely come back and I will recommend this hotel to everyone!

Reviews From Real Travelers
We booked two double rooms in 'charming room' category for 2 nights. Very disappointed. We discovered too late that this means a small room in the attic under the roof with two small velux windows. Very much not aligned to the atmodphere and decor of the rest of the hotel. We didn't think that it would be possible for a room like this to even exist in a hotel under the 'Small Luxury Hotels of the World' umbrella. Breakfast on Morning 1 was chaotic - ran out of warm food choice options. 2 staff members to cook, replenish buffet & serve coffee in dining room. Morning 2 was fine - much fewer people in dining room. Price of breakfast €30 p.p - quite a lot for a standard breakfast buffet in very small space (max 4 people possible to stand at one time). Decor in the hotel very tasteful. Staff very nice.

This is an amazing hotel and we had a wonderful stay. Our room was very spacious with a super king sized bed, fantastic bathroom and a stunning view of the canal. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, without being intrusive, and made us feel looked after and welcome. The hotel bar is beautifully comfortable and we loved sitting in there for tea and drinks. I cold not recommend the hotel more highly.

The Hotel Montovani is a reasonably priced hotel that offers you all that you would expect or need. Its biggest asset, of course, is its location. It is located a block off the main avenue, Hoefijzerlaan and is just mere blocks away from the Historic City Center. The hotel has a lounge area and a glass covered veranda that opens out to a lovely small garden. This was the ideal location in which to enjoy the delicious breakfast or, perhaps to relax in the afternoon with a hot beverage. These were included in the room rate. The rooms were comfy and clean, the bed and pillows, comfortable, enabling you to wake up refreshed and ready to start your day of exploration. The service was friendly and efficient. There was free wifi. There was no onsite parking, but free parking was available on the nearby avenue, just minutes away. Bruges is the capital and largest city of West Flanders. It was inducted into UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2000. We were visiting Bruges with the intent of adding this World Heritage Site to our list, in this case, there would be three. Bruges's Historic City Centre is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets, medieval buildings. In fact, along with cities such as Amsterdam, it is often referred to as the ”Venice of the North'. The Belfry of Bruges is part of the World Heritage Site of Belfries of Belgium and France list, which includes 56 Belfries in total. The tower, which dates from the 13th century, has 366 steps which lead to the top of the 272 feet high building. This is a must ”to do” climb! The third site is the Ten Wijngaerde Beguinage, a beguinage built in the 13th century and included in the World Heritage Site of ”Flemish Beguinages”. A Beguinage was an architectural complex which was built to house beguines, lay religious women who lived in the community without taking vows or retiring from the world. As we were only here for two nights, I do not have a lot of recommendations on where to eat dinner. The one dinner that we did eat here, was at the Cafe Sportsman, situated on the Markt. The meal was good and the service was good, but what was most extraordinary, was the location. There are many restaurants situated around this square, so your choice is quite overwhelming. The buildings are extraordinaire, the Belfry was located across from us, and in the evening, the light is very distracting. A visit to Bruges is worthwhile and actually deserves more than two nights, but there was still much ahead in our journey. So whether you stay longer or shorter, the Montovani comes with a high recommendation!

Quaint with a modern twist - this cute little hotel is less than a 10 Min walk into the centre. On arrival we had an upgraded room which was a large triple family room with a modern bathroom and decor. Friendly staff. No on-site parking even tho *********** said there was, we paid to leave our car at the underground car park in the centre - which wasn’t that far but slightly inconvenient - Although it wouldn’t deter us from returning in the future.

This hotel is absolutely amazing. The price for 1 night is affordable. My partner booked last minute and we didn’t expect what we see online is what we get in person. The room is lovely and warm, bed is so comfortable, pillows are the softest ever we had amongst the hotel we have been for holidays. The room space are enough for couples and couldn’t ask for more. The ambiance upon the reception up to the lounge are absolutely amazing and beautiful. The lovely receptionist was so friendly as well. We highly recommend this hotel to everybody who are looking for affordable and budget friendly accommodation.

Nice hotel in a central location. From memory it was about 16e for a taxi to the station. Small reception with very helpful staff. The rooms were comfortable with although very very warm. We didn't eat at the hotel as there were plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. We walked to all of the attractions from the hotel. Great location.
