126 Rue Saint-Pierre, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
"We stayed for a three-night getaway in January and the hotel contributed to having a splendid time. The location in the Lower Town is excellent. (For the history buff it is less than a block from the site of the British and Canadian victory over the American General Arnold on New Year’s Eve, 1775.) It is only a fifteen-minute walk, although steeply uphill, to Upper Town and a different tourist experience. We travelled by train: the hotel is a short taxi ride from the station. One could walk it without a lot of baggage on a less-snowy day. The hotel is the century-old Dominion Grocery & Fruit Co. Building, which has been re-purposed taking advantage of its fine architecture. Throughout the building one encounters cornices, pillars and wood panelling from the original. Our room on the sixth floor overlooked the river, where we watched two ocean ships making their way upstream in the ice and could see the comings and goings of the Lévis ferries. The room was not overly large, but had the very high original ceiling. It boasted a very comfortable Queen bed, an excellent work space beside the large windows, and all the facilities one would expect. The bathroom was very modern and well-equipped, with a wonderful glass walk-in shower. Our only criticism was the lighting which, combined with a lot of black paint, made for a dark room, particularly in the late afternoon and evening when the sun was beyond the big windows. The Continental breakfast was served off the lobby, with a variety of easy chairs or tables with chairs or stools to eat. The first two days the menu was identical, but much different on our last morning. Each day there was more than enough choice. The croissants, both plain and chocolate, were especially memorable. Regular coffee is available, or one may make good-quality cappuccino, espresso, americano, etc. from a machine. The hotel sits in the midst of a number of good restaurants, and the well-informed and helpful staff will guide you through them. We sampled good French taverne, Italian and Vietnamese all within two short blocks. We would recommend asking for a river view room, on a floor high enough to see over neighbouring buildings."
"Stayed here with my husband to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary. So many great things about this hotel; here are some highlights: -Lovely note wishing us well and acknowledging our special trip and a chilled bottle of ice wine. -Housekeeping staff checked on us every evening to give us hotel chocolates, ice and make sure we had everything we needed. -Great location in old Quebec with lots of restaurants in the area to choose from. -Room was cozy, darkly lit, great view and perfect for a romantic getaway. -Continental breakfast comes as part of the room and is great for the days you do not want to look for a breakfast spot. -Two of our favourite things about this hotel were the 24-hour espresso machine and the lounge space by the lobby where you could hang out on the couches in front of the fireplace; blankets included. -Decent gym on site for basic workout. -Welcoming, professional staff who take the time to ask you if you need anything. We have already decided to return to QC in a future summer and will definitely stay at Hotel Le Germain again. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful!"
"My best friend and I came to Quebec City to celebrate her 50th birthday. We chose this hotel and were not disappointed! I got in at midnight and was greeted very warmly. When I entered my room, the light was on and nice music was playing. There was tea and coffee, creamer in the mini fridge. The beds were some of the most comfortable I've ever slept on, our room was immaculate. My friend and I ate breakfast there every morning. We are foodies and normally would have like to explore the cuisine, but the bread, yogurt, special of the day, cheese, fresh juice, amazing croissants were out of this world! We didn't even think about going anywhere else. The concierge called cabs for us, offered directions and incredible suggestions, gave us maps and treated us like royalty. The roaring fire was a lovely touch and there are plenty of places to sit and just relax. I give this hotel and it's employees my highest recommendation. I don't usually leave reviews, but I just had to. You will not regret choosing this hotel."
