"Stay at this paradise & skip lodging in Atlantic City or Ocean City!!! So happy to have stumbled across Tavern on the Bay when searching for a pet friendly hotel near Atlantic City and now my boyfriend and I are planning our next trip to the Shore JUST to stay at Tavern on the Bay again! I found this Victorian mansion gem on Expedia as at the pet friendly hotels in Atlantic City were crazy expensive/sold out. It was a blessing though because we would’ve never ventured into Somers Point which is <25 minutes away from AC. Sam, the owner was so responsive and made himself available. We arrived late due to traffic and he graciously stayed up an hour past check in to give us the tour of the boat we were staying. The vintage yacht is amazing and spacious that it puts my Manhattan apt to shame. It’s also being featured in the Philadelphia Magazine soon! The bed is super comfortable and the AC cooled up the whole bottom floor. The old record player really added to the charm of the boat. The top part of the boat was so spacious and a great place to watch the sunrise. I would totally recommend staying on the boat which you even get privately chartered! Sam and Tavern on the Bay also offers a slew of rentals (jet skis, boards, etc.) for a funfilled weekend. On our last night, we stay in the Al Capone room which was perfect because we had access to the top patio overlooking the bay. We brought our dinner from the amazing Smitty’s Clamhouse on the patio during sunset and it was perfect. The next day I bumped into Sam early in the morning on the patio where he was painting. Definitely buy his artwork which he also features at Art Basel! Aside from the nearby clam bar, I do recommend eating at the Tavern on the Bay restaurant as well. The views are outstanding and the happy hour is great. The waitress was busy so Sam selflessly came outside to serve us in the middle of eating his lunch. What a guy! One of the managers, Caleb was great and super friendly too!"
"So, the Tavern on the Bay looked promising from the photos, but if you are expecting a hotel or B&B experience, this is not it. I booked a room via e-mail, I confirmed it via e-mail and checking in was still problematic. They did not have my reservation or room correct. For $125 per night, I expect a bit more organization and service. There is no one in the building during the day other than guests. The staff arrive at 4 PM when the restaurant and bar open. Room was small and clean, and decorated in keeping with the 1880's building, but not the one I requested. While they are pet friendly, $50 per pet per night is extremely high. I don't mind paying a bit more to bring my pets with me but this is too much. Having said that, they did allow us to bring two large dogs so I am grateful for that. The restaurant and bar staff were great, very friendly and welcoming. But no one came to clean our room until after 4 PM when we wanted to relax after a busy day. I don't fault the housekeeper, she was very nice. They just need better management and scheduling if they are going to accept guests for their rooms. The direct views of the bay and marina from all rooms via the exterior deck were great."
"Tavern on the Bay Resort has one of the best locations in Somers Point. It is in a lovely historic building with an unsurpassed view. It is also walking distance to the local concert venue. It is difficult to get on line dates you need for your stay here. Best to call directly and book personally asking the receptionist for their name. They seem to sometimes have organizational difficulties. That being said the place is super clean and beautiful."
