"Probably one the best place in the world to find peace of mind and relax. The Arantza Hotel is located ten minutes away from the seven century old town of Arantza in the north of Navarra. The road leading to the hotel is narrow and charming sharing the remarkable beauty of the Basque Country side. This area of lush nature, is full of paths and roads littered with megalithic monuments providing a serene and calmness that characterized the region. The Arantza hotel is surrounded by magnificent woods and rolling mountains and it is easy to be inspired and charmed by its overwhelming natural beauty. This boutique hotel offers eleven rooms that are very spacious modern and present a very clean look. In addition, each room present large bay windows that offer a spectacular views of the valley. Furniture are modern and unique as they were created specifically for the hotel by the sculptor Jose Pablo Arriaga. The hotel has a restaurant open to the public for meals. Dinner is also available for guests staying at thé Arantza. Don’t miss their breakfast which is spectacular as you virtually sit in the open enjoying the beauty of the valley. An hotel spa is also available upon request. The staff is friendly, accommodating and very helpful we had a fantastic stay and plan to come back in this oasis of peace."
"Arantza Hotela will always hold wonderful memories for us, two days after we were married in nearby Biarrtiz. From the moment we arrived, Alberto made us feel like rockstars. Upon hearing we were newly weds we were upgraded to an unbelievable room with an incredibly view that made us feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. Alberto suggested we leave the curtains open at night to wake up with the sunrise the next morning- just stunning. Breakfast was beautifully served on a private buffet tray Our stay just went from better to better- we did in room massages, the private spa, electric bikes to the waterfall, lunch down in Arantza and two incredible meals in the hotel (where i ordered the same thing both nights it was so good- fish soup and duck!). If you're looking for something truly special, quiet and relaxing, this is the place and it's absolutely worth the price. Alberto thank you so much for going above and beyond during our 2 night stay, we can't wait to come back. Sinead et Thomas"
"Firstly, the positives. This is a lovely hotel situated near a remote town (Arantza) with stunning views, a large bedroom and a nice bathtub. Most of the staff are nice, if not a little lacking in the training you’d expect from a 5star hotel. However, we were extremely disappointed to learn that although the hotel advertises itself as a spa hotel, you can only use the spa (including the pool, jacuzzi etc) for 45 minutes and you must pay an extortionate supplement of 100 euros for it. There is no other pool. We decided to raise this with the manager as we felt it was falsely advertised and were disappointed as we’d booked with using the spa in mind! Rather than hearing us out, he was rude, aggressive, patronising and inflexible. At one point, one of the receptionists laughed as we were airing our points. This is no way to treat guests. The manager refused to hear our point of view, instead aggressively referred to the “contract” we’d signed which never mentioned a spa being included (most contracts don’t, if you’re marketing yourself as a spa hotel). Advice to management - have some empathy with your clients, listen to them and don’t be rude to guests paying for a 5 star hotel experience! You need to make it very clear (via all the channels you advertise) that access to the spa is heavily limited and very expensive. "

"well located at a quiet street 5 minutes walking from the sea and 10 minutes from saint jean de luz centre the service was very good. the owner of the property is checking himself that all works well the gardens of the property are really beautifull, neatly maintained the hotel has a main building, separate pavillions and towers. all the complex has an atonishingly attractive art decó decoration. the common areas, same at the main building as at the pavillions near the swimming pool are as charming as a guest will hardly find in other hotels my room was in one of the towers. the size was sufficient. the bed was good. the free wifi was very good. there was sufficient storage space for the luggage. the minibar had sufficient choice. the tv had a good channels selection with french, spanish and international network. the bathroom was very well equippped. the jacuzzi was appreciated. i missed a coffee maker in the room. lightning and soundproofing were good i did not use use neither the climatized swimming pool nor the spa facilities the restaurant was excellent and we enjoyed a great dinner easy parking space is offered for free breakfast was not a buffet, but a choice from several items in a list, which was ok, but was the weak part of my stay. the pastries selection was unsufficient not cheap, but not too expensive considering the standards of the hotel. i consider that the value for money was very good i would have rated this hotel with 5* if i had found a coffee maker in the room and breakfast had been better this hotel is recommended. i would most probably return to this hotel when staying in saint jean de luz"
"I must thank all the employees for the utmost of care and comfort during my four night stay in one of the most exquisite settings in all of Saint Jean de Luz. This beautiful chateaux houses the most interesting antiques taking you back in time. Situated in opulent gardens to enjoy, yet only a 20 minute to walk into the bustle of town and the seashore. Top quality of service, from top management to the groundskeeper, something lacking in many hotels of this day. Whether permitted a decadent breakfast in the garden. My dinner in their renowned restaurant was elegant and refined. Looking forward to another visit."
"This is a super hotel with the luxury of gardens and an outdoor pool yet close to the beach and the centre of town. The only thing we missed was tea and coffee service in the room. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, with good English, and the restaurant is top class albeit very expensive, especially the wines, compared with what you pay for a good restaurant in the town. Would highly recommend although I agree with some of the other comments about housekeeping as we had toiletries that had already been opened/used and they weren't always topped up."

"What a great place to hole up in the winter wind and rain! (Although I'm sure it is lovely in the summer time too!) We stayed a night for my wife's birthday and had a very pleasant stay. The rooms have been decorated very tastefully and we were fortunate to have a corner room with views over the bay and down the coast. We would definitely recommend a sea view. The staff were excellent - professional and polished but not too formal. We ate in the (non-michelin star) restaurant which was superb. I can only guess that the other restaurant must be pretty impressive! St Jean de Luz itself is a lovely little town, in a beautiful bay. Plus there are other lovely places to visit, not far away. We would highly recommend :)"
" Three nights in this small resort town and very much enjoyed the Grand Hotel. We had booked a standard room with a sea view - relatively small but as expected, and nicely appointed It was evident that the whole ethos is of charm from a prior era and what set the place apart was the kind service: from reception to concierge to bar staff to spa staff - all exceptionally willing to help and guide. A special note to Benoît who found us bookings at local restaurants and informed ahead for dietary restrictions- much appreciated Spa is well appointed with sauna, steam room, salt room and a salt water (Thalasso) heated pool"
"Great place to stay and relax .Amazing spa with pool and steam room. Room very small, but very cozy. Great Small touches, such as fresh orchids and candies, great toiletry(bvlgary) and very efficient service. Our room was not ready, for the time waiting 20 min we were offered complimentary cocktails in the restaurant. The atmosphere was very vital in this place. The hotel has amazing sandy beach and nice terrace .I had a feeling that I've been here 100 years ago and enjoyed every minute which I spent there."

"La Reserve in Saint-Jean-de-Luz is everything one could ask of an upscale hotel in an upscale tourist town - elegant, quiet, comfortable - yet it is equally friendly to families with young children with a host of amenities. Situated with a stunning view overlooking the Atlantic and toward Biarritz, La Reserve has much to recommend it. The two minor complaints we had were that the restaurant was not open on Monday evening, so we had to go into town for dinner, and the double room we had was a bit on the small side, though the room's appointments were very nice. Best of all, our room had a balcony where we could sit to look over the ocean, and we were able to sleep with the window open and hear the surf break on the shore below. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the breakfast buffet was extensive. La Reserve would make a good choice for day trips out into the Basque country."
"stayed for stayed 3 nights in a comfort apartment. Room 306. The grounds and views are beautiful. Excellent walking areas along the coast. We like having a large room with a kitchenette and this covered that. The huge terrace and views were amazing. The decor of the apartment was a little dated, but worked out fine. The bath area seemed to be updated. Private parking. Excellent staff and service. What a lovely area."
"Whilst it was a nice hotel with a lovely terrace for dinner, we were disappointed with the minuscule size of our double room. Nowhere to put anything down, it was difficult, even for one night. The staff were all very efficient and we enjoyed a pleasant dinner with friends on the terrace, a lovely summer evening. Hotel had a nice pool for relaxing by and nice walks in both directions - about 15min walk into the lovely town where they have a great open and covered market. The river also made a pretty walk. Good base for visiting Biarritz, Bayonne and the Basque Country. "

"We spent a long lazy Fall weekend with friends in the Basque region of France and decided on Saint Jean de Luz to make our base. After lots of research we chose the Madison Hotel because of its great location, small boutique feel and excellent reviews. We were a bit apprehensive as some of the photos on the website make the hotel look a bit like an upscale chain hotel but once there we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is impeccably clean, with great style and mix of old and new, great beds and excellent bathrooms. The location is ideal, a 10 minute walk from the train station, 5 minutes the beach, and great shopping, with lots of wonderful restaurant choices all around. The staff at the hotel were all super lovely and very accommodating. What a great choice for a weekend away ! Merci Hotel Madison. "
"The hotel is in a good central location. Classic double room a bit small but clean with nice touches, safe, minibar, rain and massage shower. Really comfortable large bed with quality linens. Breakfast and parking expensive extras but worth it. Really high point for the staff - Stella? on front desk friendly and helpful, and Matteo in the restaurant for good humour and a genuine way with people. Pool and jaccuzi very tranquil spaces in the lower ground floor, robes and slippers provided. We only stayed 2 nights, would happily have stayed longer. Thanks to all the team for advice and making us feel welcome."
"The hotel is very well located in the city center and close to the beach. Unique decoration of the rooms, with local elements in a nice combination of modern and traditional. Staff is kind and helpful. High quality breakfast. As a downside, the classic rooms are a bit small. "

"If you understand a few access limitations, this place is just fine. I'll deal with those later. This is a nice, very clean, newly-fitted out, modern (in an old building) nine-room hotel on three floors, starting (importantly) on the (for Americans) second floor. You go up a kind of steep set of stairs to the reception area and from there there is elevator service to the top two floors. The hotel entrance is signed but back from the street through a short passageway between two restaurants. It's about 30 steps from the beachfront raised promenade and there are a ton of restaurants nearby. We had a room that was a few notches up from the bottom offerings. It had a pleasant, small porch furnished with two chairs and a table. The view was of absolutely nothing but the church steeple containing the bells that rang every hour. With the patio door open (it was warm) we heard every peal. With the door closed, practically nothing. The room, bathroom and fixtures, and patio all seemed quite new. And the decor and decorations were very nice. Breakfast is 11 euros and ordered from a menu the night before. It can be eaten in the reception area or cheerfully delivered to your room. It was nothing spectacular, but was quite fresh and nice and exactly as ordered. Nice to not have to go out. Unless a taxi drops you off, finding this one and finding a place for your car is an adventure. The street of the hotel is pedestrian only. So you approach from the north on Rue Jean Courtade. JUST before you hit the beach promenade (on the right), and JUST before an alley on the left, is the LAST PARKING SPACE on the left. On the side of the building behind the space is a sign that reads "Minute Hotel Parking" and a sign hanging from that that says "Hotel Txoko." If someone is parked there and is in the car, scowl at them and get them to move. Assuming you get the spot, get all your stuff, lock the car and walk ahead a few steps (not down the alley) to Rue de la Republique. Walk down the street past 2-3 restaurants and above the restaurant awnings on the left you will see a sign for Hotel Txoko. Enter the short passageway and you're home free. If no one's there, the charming, friendly, helpful Claudette will respond quickly when you ring the bell. Nothing to it. Nice place once you get there!"
"This hotel is the best place you can find in Saint Jean du Luz. The host is more than words can define, extremely helpful, very friendly, can not be better, she made our days beautiful:) The rooms are very well decorated, very chic, clean, sound proof. Welcoming easter bunny chocolate, free of charge nespresso and water in the rooms. The breakfast is amazing by the way!! My first time in Saint jean de luz which I found very boring, overrated, ugly restaurants, very expensive for the very very low quality of service and taste you get at the restaurants. Never to come as a couple because nothing to do besides the beach which is also very ugly designed. But this hotel is the only positive experience you can get in this place. "
"We spent a week in this hotel having booked through booking.com. We were well received and our room was as booked, clean and well presented. Although in the heart of the town our room was at the back of the hotel and we enjoyed peaceful nights and good sleep. The staff offer everything you need in particular, towels, mats and a parasol for the nearby beach, great when travelling with hand luggage only. We did try the breakfast on one day, very good and lots of it but we preferred to pop out to the nearby shops daily. A small fridge was provided that allowed some storage for small items. You could not be closer to the action here and we had an enjoyable week. Any issues were dealt with promptly by staff. I would recommend this as a good base to explore the area close to busses, train and Restaurants."
