Paratge Torremirona,Platja de Castell, 12, Palamos, Catalonia, Spain
"On our way back to Mallorca our ferry was cancelled due to bad weather, which ultimately lasted two days. After trying most hotels in Barcelona we could not get accommodation as no hotel would accept our pet dog ( German Shepperd) due to his size. We then had to widen the radius and came across this excellent hotel. We called and Marie, the manageress , was most helpful and said our dog was very welcome. Once we reached the hotel we were pleasanty surprised. The decor is charming and with only 14 rooms it feels very private and homely. Marie gave us a superb room, which was great value for money, with plenty of space for our dog. We were made very welcome and the service was first class. We dined in restaurant on both nights and the food was superb and reasonably priced. Luciana , the manageress of the restaurant, was very friendly helpful and professional. The hotel is situated less than a km from Castell beach and there are some superb hikes around the coastline . We would highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting this area. "
"We stayed 4 nights expecting a 5 star experience at a small boutique hotel. We found a run-down establishment with a lack of management. 1. As our room was not ready for check-in at 2pm, we waited by the pool. No water was offered despite 30+ degrees. 2. At the pool, the gardener rushed in with a lit cigarette in his mouth, paying no regard to guests at the pool. 3. No presentation was made of the hotel or of room facilities. One free bottle of water was offered on the first day but never replenished the other 3 nights. 4. Except for the nice bed, everything else in the room needs to be refurbished. In our garden suite, there was no sun umbrella and the deck of the terrace was very badly maintained and not safe to walk barefoot on. No tea/coffee facilities. 6. Grounds need to be revamped. Bushes full of dead leaves and branches. Not a single flower in the gardens. 7. At the pool, all cushions were old and stained, and the pool itself needs to be repainted and better cleaned. 8. Breakfast services results in inefficiency and a lot of waste. There is insufficient attention to cleaning tables after guest have left. One morning our tray was still there 20 minutes after we had left, and a cat was feasting on the left overs -- not nice. 9. The hotel seems to have no environmental programme. 10. There is a lack of management and care for quality and huge need for reinvestment. 11. It is a tired establishment, reflecting being owned by a hotel group rather than a family ."
"You have to drive through a small industrial zone to get to the hotel but don't worry it is set among the pine trees and we walked about 1 km to the beach. All very quiet as it was November. The breakfast was good with a selection and you could order eggs if you wanted them, the staff were charming the rooms lovely and warm and the beds huge and comfortable, restaurant was OK serving local Catalan food."

Afores de Torrent, s/n, Torrent, Catalonia, Spain
"The setting is lovely, but the service is irregular, and at times horrible. They said it was a non-smoking space, and people were smoking at the pool, at the lunch terrace, at the bar, and in the outdoor waiting area that you need to enter at the at the breakfast restaurant. They were even smoking cigars after lunch with other people around. Some days the room was well cleaned, other days it wasn’t. The service at lunch was poor. I expected more from a 5-star luxury report."
"We spent an unforgettable girly weekend here. We enjoyed the magnificent spa facilities. A special mention to the lovely restaurant and amazing food and drinks. The staff were extremely attentive and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. We can't wait to go back!"
"It's a fantastic hotel, very comfortable and cosy. We loved the stylish forniture and decoration and the healty meals. The landscape and views are wanderful too. We highly recommend Mas de Torrent for couples, family trips and even business events."

Platja De Fornells, s/n, Begur, Catalonia, Spain
"We have been coming to this wonderful place for over 50 years now and have just returned from a lst minute trip which was the final week before the hotel closes for the winter. The sun shone, which of course helped.loads of people were swimming in the sea,but the hotel made it the fabulous holiday that it was and always is.The staff without exception were as friendly as ever. Most of them we have seen grow up here, starting off in the most junior roles and now make up the senior management whom we are proud to call our freinds. The food as always is great. We had breakfast every morning which is a cornucopia of every conceivable pastry you can think of,fresh fruit, meats, etc. The only gripe we have is that the heating equipment for the fried eggs and bacon are too antiquated with the result that they are always cold.Dinner in the evening is simply wonderful.a huge choice both on the table d'hote and the a la carte menus.Surely some of the best food on offer in the 400 or so restaurants in the immediate area(and we have tried most of them!) I read the adverse report of the American ''Georgia family'' of their room cleanliness with utter incredulity. All I can say is in the 50/60 times we have stayed in this hotel, never,EVER have we had this reported experience. We have stayed in virtually every room in the hotel with family and friends and not once in all that time has our room been anything other than scrupulously clean. This last visit, last week our room was once again spotless. We were in the main building on the first floor in a junior suite and the room was cleaned every morning whilst we were having breakfast.Believe me,if the room was ever in the state described by your reporter from the US,I would never ever return, but in all our visits this has never ever been the case. I cannot praise this hotel highly enough. It seems others agree with me as the hotel was absolutely full both for the two weeks in September and again for the last week in October. Not bad in these troubled times for Catalonia.Worth reporting that we actually flew in and out of Toulouse in order to avoid the situation in Barcelona.Worked very well too."
"We arrived early on the first day of our three-day stay, and were told the room wasn't yet ready, and to come back at 2:00. W e arrived back there at around 2:05. They told us the room wasn't yet ready and to wait somewhere and they'd come get us when it was. That was fine, because the outdoor area and the grounds are lovely. It was only 5 minutes later that a nice young man came to get us, and helped us carry our luggage down to room 89. A team of cleaners was exiting our room when we entered. Almost immediately we noticed.... No, wait. I'll start with the good things, first, because there were definitely good things. The mattress was comfortable. The outdoor spaces are very nice. The pool looked crystal clear and inviting, though we never swam in it. Our room's terrace was large and had two recliners and two chairs and a table, and looked out over the loveliest view of trees and the sea. Breakfast each morning was lovely, sitting on the terrace with perfect weather and that spectacular view. The food choices were plentiful--meats, cheeses, eggs, pastries, tomatoes and bread, fruit, cereals, yogurts, champagne and juices, coffee options... The little beach down below is so pretty, the water crystal clear. We were able to swim in it, even thought it was already October. (It's a public beach, so be aware that some women will be topless, if that is a concern to you.) It was nice to go down there in the evenings, too, just to sit and look out over the water. So peaceful. Now, back to the room. Immediately we noticed the long black hairs. Not just one or two , but many--at least 20. They were in every room of the suite. It was as though their mop had picked up a bunch of hair from where someone had sat brushing, maybe, and spread them around the room. The floor of the toilet room had two footprints (I've shown a photo). I called the desk immediately. No apology or anything, but they sent a maid up, not with a vacuum, but a swiffer. When she left I picked up the remaining hairs and cleaned the footprints myself. The room had a bad smell of mold and mildew, especially in the toilet room. Not mild, but strong and bad. The shower ceiling has visible mold (see pic). It got to the point that I felt sick whenever in the room, and tried to stay in it as little as possible. Four pillows were provided. My husband put his square pillow on the floor next to his side of the bed one night, and in the morning the pillow had some nasty watery brownish stains, as though it had wicked up dirty mop water from the cracks between the cheap laminate flooring. Really gross. We spent two weeks in Catalonia, and this was the only hotel that was dirty. Even the 98 euro place we spent one night in was sparkling clean. Yet this was the most expensive place we stayed in, that calls themselves a 4 star. A 4 star hotel shouldn't make you feel ill and make you feel dirty. (A 4 star hotel should also provide water each night of the stay, not just the first night, and robes, "
"We recently stayed here for a 2 night stay and I can honestly say it’s now my favourite hotel on the Costa Brava. The location is beautiful and the hotel has lots of different areas to relax, eat, and enjoy sports (badminton and ping pong). The swimming pool is a good size with a bar serving drinks, and it was difficult to pull the kids away from this. We are a family of 5 and have found it difficult to find accommodation in other hotels that can accommodate us all in one room, but we had a lovely suite here, with plenty of space, a little balcony and l’occitane products in the bathroom. The food I the restaurant for lunch and dinner was delicious, with a good selection, including a great kids menu with healthy options. My kids loved the breakfast buffet and the pastries and fruit were particularly delicious - my only negative comment would be that the cooked breakfast was not hot enough, as it had been reheated - but the staff were quick to try and prepare a fresh plate for us. Overall, a great choice for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting."

Platja D'aiguablava, Begur, Catalonia, Spain
"After nearly four years waiting for this Parador to reopen following a complete refurbishment and remodelling, our expectations were fully met. It was really good to stay here again. The design is very impressive in a contemporary way and above all it feels comfortable. The staff are welcoming and friendly - it is good to see some staff have been retained throughout its closure and renovation programme. There are new leisure facilities which include a new outdoor pool, solarium and a completely new spa area indoors. The reception areas are generous and relaxing. We ate an excellent dinner in the restaurant and the buffet breakfast served in a newly created breakfast room was extremely well organised and extensive. This is one of our favourite Paradors located on a stunning coastline offering extensive walks and nearby coastal villages as well as Begur to discover. We look forward to visiting again."
"We rented the top floor suite which was fabulous. Definitely recommend the splurge. Great views and lots of inside and outside space. Beach is very close - down steps or take the longer path. Food was acceptable. A couple of hours drive from Barcelona - nice for a weekend break."
"A calm and relaxing place in an incredible location in front of the sea! Friendly staff and nice rooms. Something exceptional! Not difficult to find and possible to eat in the near villages just to explore other places in the area. Unforgettable!"

Muntanya de Sant Sebastià, Llafranch, Catalonia, Spain
"I came here for lunch yesterday with a friend who lives in Barcelona. We had spent the morning exploring some of the towns in Costa Brava and arrived here around 2 p for lunch. We had a reservation and we seated immediately at the table of our choice. We split the patatas bravas, paella w shrimp, and a dessert of fresh fruit and sorbet plus wine. Absolutely incredible views and wonderful food! Reasonably priced given the views, food an service. After lunch walked to property and enjoyed the excavated ruins and the views some more before heading back. This place a wonderful jewel and I would highly recommend."
"The property lies high above the beaches of the Costa Brava with a magnificent view, spoilt unfortunately by two large Ariels. The light house adds charm to the area. The hotel has a large Restaurant, which served us excellent dinners (à la carte menue)on the two nights we spent there. Our room had a small balcony looking down towards the beaches with two deck chairs. The room itself was small but more than sufficient for a short stay. The bathroom/toilet was small and badly in need of a renovation."
"Head for the lighthouse and it's on the next level. This was a real treat. Wonderful food, first class service, impressive setting and the value for money was exceptional. This wasn't just a meal it was an experience. We will be back here as soon as we possibly can."

Carrer Sant Esteve, 15-17, Madremanya, Catalonia, Spain
"The grounds here are breathtaking and to stay in a hotel like this with this kind of history was really fun. The owner was really sweet. The staff was very accommodating to our large family. We were there with kids and we had no problems but I will say this is probably better for couples or families with calmer older children. My main criticism was the restaurant. There is nothing for a child to eat. It is only fine dining and even for an adult palate, the food was a little too adventurous even for me. They need to have something "normal" on the menu. There's not much else to eat in the small village so you have to drive quite a ways to find something else. The little town of Monells nearby has a good restaurant. The area itself and the all little medieval villages within an hours drive were absolutely amazing. We had a great time here."
"If you like small Inns or Boutique Hotels and are anywhere near Madremanya, Spain you would love everything about this place (about 1.5 hours from Barcelona Airport, but much closer to the small airport in Girona). We were greeted by Giaume and were able to get into the Con Blau suite right away, even though we were 2 hours early for check in. We had bicycles with us and did several lovely rides around the area (although the hill back up to Madremanya is a little daunting). Food and service were beyond belief- 5+. On Tuesday, the restaurant was closed, but Giaume invited 5 of us to a lovely dinner with wine in his home. It was a highlight of our trip to Spain and I highly recommend it!"
"La Placa de Madremanya was first a hospital, then the mayor's office and, in the thick quiet walls, one can feel the bustling of the past. All the building in Madreyama are the color of honey. The restaurant is superb. If you're traveling from Barcelona to Figuera to see Dali's museum, this is the perfect place to spend the night. I am a writer and have thought of organizing a workshop here. The quality of silence is alive and indescribable. All the rooms are different. (I was lucky enough to stay I the library.)"

Platja de Fornells, s/n, Begur, Catalonia, Spain
"We stayed two separate nights in the Eetu, on the way to and from France, booking direct for bed and breakfast. We had two different rooms for our stays and both had wonderful sea views and were very well appointed and finished, although here and there throughout the hotel, one can see where certain refurbishment cost savings were made after the present owners acquired it. This is also reflected in the fact that they could employ a few more staff. One arrives at reception behind someone else who is checking in and the lone receptionist then disappears with the people in front to take them to their room while you are left to twiddle your thumbs for five minutes. This happened to us both times. Similarly, at breakfast, which is self-service, the plates pile up on ones table while the owner busies himself otherwise in the restaurant with no other staff in support except the egg chef. The breakfast options are just about all there, although on a fairly modest scale. The new pool is a lovely area. We were very surprised to find a notice in the lift and on reception on Monday morning stating that the hotel restaurant would be closed that day (apart from breakfast) because of staff holidays. I understand this is a common, if not regular, occurrence. What hotel that aspires to be top notch can get away with that? We dined in Begur, a 5 minute drive away, where there is a reasonable selection of restaurants and bars. Overall the Eetu is a very nice place and we are glad we stayed there. I think if the Aigua Blava Parador ever reopens it will provide some stiff competition."
"My wife and i stayed here for 3 nights in at the beginning of the month and we loved this hotel. Everywhere was immaculately clean and the rooms were a good size compared to the other hotels we’d stayed in as we toured around Catalunya. There was covered free parking and the when we checked in the manager/owner Bernard was very helpful in pointing out places to visit and a map of the area. Our room was very comfortable and had a nice big balcony overlooking the garden, and the room was impeccably clean with plenty of storage and nice toiletries. We ate in the restaurant on 2 evenings and the food was of a very good standard as was the breakfast the following day. The pool area was absolutely fantastic, the pool was obviously new and there were lots of cabanas and loungers, and again spotlessly clean. All the staff were friendly and very efficient, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning."
"what a great hotel! The welcome was very cordial. The room clean and nicely decorated. nice spacious bathroom and great bed. Very good breakfast and the pool is beautiful, clean and quiet. nice view of the mountains and the sea. The most important: The owner is so very hospitable and friendly that it felt like a second home. Only compliments for the owner and his team! small point of attention is the dinner, but ok for this price. We will definitely be back !! Kind Regards, Peter & Bart (16-24 september 2019) Room 201"

Passeig de l'Àncora Número 6, Begur, Catalonia, Spain
"We stayed there for two nights recently and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were very well cared for. The ownership changed about a year ago to a very well known, established hospitality family in the area and it's clear that they are working hard to change the reputation and succeeding! Many reviews talk about expensive but disappointing food. The food is not cheap but you get what you pay for, including an incredible setting which people should understand has to cone with a premium. Everything we ordered was exquisitely prepared and I especially recommend the calamari and pulpo! My mother aptly described the first round of tapas as a kaleidoscope of flavors. The rooms were also excellent, clean with robes, bath products and excellent bedding. In the end, I believe that people make more of an impact on an experience than most other things and I can sincerely say that one of the highlight of our stay was the charming and effective maître d' who was very attentive and a very fine sommelier."
"The spectation was very high before going, but they were overtaken. Incredible location, good service and great food. We asked for tapas to compete. Awesome Andalusian squid with cheese! I recommend asking the black rice to the can."
"Ouch!!!!!stopped in this Hostel in SaTuna for a breakfast.....ordered 2coffee’s and 2Croque Monsier.....toasted sandwich of plain white cut bread ,processed cheese and ham.....it was brought to us so we ate it took us all of 2 minuets only to be told that for 3.50euros you only got half a sandwich......so all in all out two toasted sandwiches cost 7 euros per sandwich....so 21 euros for the lot.....what a rip off should have said on the menu it was only half for 3.50euros each........ so be warned and ask before you order....was not impressed ......"
