"I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars for stoweflake. We booked it because it seemed to check all the boxes: gas fireplace, Mountain View, prime location on the mountain road, adjacent to the bike path and I discovered it had snowshoe trails on property as well as available snowshoe rentals. Sadly while it did have all of these benefits we were disappointed. Maybe it was the high expectations which is why I’m marking it four stars. We did have a Mountain View, it was ok. Would have been better if I didn’t have to look at the parking lot at the same time so I was underwhelmed. Nothing the hotel can do about that and def better than no view. Room layout was good, fireplace worked well, thermostat worked, room was charming. Bath soap smelled great. Negatives include that the mattress needed replacing, we found it impossible to stop the shower from dripping (though we did get it to only once every few seconds) and the insanity of providing a keurig but NO coffee cups. Maybe this isn’t a big deal for some but in room coffee is a perk I value. Yes, there was coffee available in the restaurant to go and it was free, but it required getting dressed. So my husband, awake earlier than me, went down and got a small cup for each of us. I asked if he could go back and get a tray and four more cups, he didn’t feel like he could take so many at once. So after the first cup my husband went to the coffee shop next door and got a couple of real-size cups. It really put a bad start to what we had thought would be a relaxing, stay in bed too late kind of morning. I guess we could have called down for cups but as only two of the pods were caffeinated coffee we would have needed to ask for that too. It was annoying but a problem we could have avoided the second morning if we had stayed for the second night we booked. Our reasons for checking out early weren’t mostly about the hotel, though had my husband been able to get a good night’s sleep we might not have questioned if we wanted to stay. We did not expect a refund for our skipped night, I think it was about 1:00 when we checked out. But it was surprising that the front desk person didn’t inquire as to what they might have done better. And there really wasn’t anything major but he didn’t ask. It also would have been nice if he’d offered even a small gift certificate for the spa or restaurant or towards a future stay. It’s doubtful we would have used it but it just seems like a good practice. As I’m writing this though I’m remembering that I did get a call a couple days ahead of our stay offering to make reservations and the person was helpful in answering my questions. So maybe the front desk person just skipped a beat and isn’t reflective of their standard of service. Some training could help with that. Also I should say that it was a great value for the price. If I wanted a better view I could have paid three times as much and stayed at Spruce Peak. We considered it but I wanted to be in the village. So I guess my e"
"Stoweflake is in a great location and, if attention were paid to some details, it would be excellent. However, there were several issues, including very uncomfortable beds. (I can't imagine how old the mattress was--the springs were totally shot. And the sheets were too small for the bed and kept coming off.) However, the bed and bath were clean. Like a lot of hotels in Stowe, everything is slightly worn. Some of the bath amenities were empty. (We bring our own, so no problem.) The front desk was pleasant but was unable to give us information we needed---like where to walk our dogs since every exit near the room except for the one to the parking lot was blocked by snow--and the parking lot was slushy and icy with huge icy puddles. They did eventually shovel out one other exit. Although this is high season, somehow they didn't seem prepared. The parking lot was in much worse shape---despite the very audible plow coming through at 5:45 am---than at other hotels. The concierge had offered to email us a list of local restaurants and then never did. It's all in the details."
"Weekend getaway, wonderful stay. There is a nordic ski trail that goes right into the resort, you can ski right up to the firepit. Room was nice, staff very friendly and helpful. Perfect central location to all the good restaurants, coffee shops, and close to the ski area. "

"Went here a couples weekend in August 2020. Hotel was only half full so I felt good with the social distancing. We'd recommend it for couples and those looking for a few days away. It's not really a luxury resort, but it is nice and pleasant. Here is our review: Location: A Right on the main road and so a short drive to everything. Walking distance (across the street) to the bike path where you can get bikes right at the store. Very convenient. Staff: A Front desk, wait staff, and concierge were super friendly and helpful, giving us tips on where to go, and what to do. Rooms: B- While the rooms are large and bed was comfy, the bathrooms are a bit dated and the shower handle got stuck a lot. And there are no balcony's at this hotel which is a bummer on a nice day you'd want to sit outside and read a book or something. Sometimes I felt i was in a nice motel room. Pool: B Decent size pool and there are 3 of them (small one for adults; large one for families; and an indoor one). The outside pools were FREEZING. Even on a hot day it's too cold to go in the water. I know heating pools are expensive but it makes a world of difference. No one wants to jump into an ice box and it sort of ruins the experience. There also aren't enough seats for everyone due to social distancing so one day we had to come back. Restaurant: B+ Never ate dinner here but the breakfast was A+ and the lunch a good B. Service was very slow at all times but we weren't in a huge rush. We found the staff friendly."
"With the price of services, and having been to comparable spa resorts, we were disappointed in the overall amenities and treatments. The relaxation/waiting room was right off the entrance to the spa and adjacent locker room, which resulted in a noisy atmosphere. It was also very awkward to be escorted through the locker room and down a set of stairs to receive the massage. It was not fun to have to climb stairs after the treatment, either. We were also disappointed that the massage time was cut short...there were two of us and we both found that our treatment time included the time walking to the treatment room, disrobing, talking to the therapist, and returning to the relaxation room. That means that our massages were cut short by several minutes. The massage had good technique but was very "piecemeal" with very choppy components and it did not flow well. There were a lot of hands-off moments that made the massage feel very rushed and not synchronized at all. The nail treatments were also sub-par and the nail techs were more interested in talking to each other and we would have preferred a nice, relaxing environment with minimal talking. We paid for a luxury spa experience and could have gotten better services at a local massage parlor or nail salon for a quarter of the price. We have been to many spas and this would rate as one of the poorest by far. We do not take reviews lightly and wish we had known this information before spending a good sum of money on this experience. We are very willing to pay for quality services and often pay upwards of $200 per massage but the quality is far superior, as is the atmosphere. In addition, a gratuity of 22% was automatically added, which was more than the standard."
"Topnotch has always been a special place to stay and we knew that there would some amenities lacking due to COVID so we were prepared, but still... The fire bowls across the property were never lit in the 4 days we were there, which was really disappointing! While the people who were on property were social distancing outdoors it really would have been nice to have them lit. Same with most of the fireplaces. They finally did get a couple of them going but never in the one open restaurant, The Roost, or at the spa area. The spa was beautiful and the treatments were fabulous and well staffed although the locker rooms were very cold and there were no amenities in them (probably due to COVID.) The outdoor pool was open but it was not kept heated, the water was so cold. There was no way it could be used. The indoor pool was too cold to swim (for me) but nice to sit by because the air was well heated. The staff was wonderful in all areas of the resort and the food and bar was very good at The Roost! Of course the views and the grounds are lovely; a little more fire would have been great in these times of being outdoors and social distancing! The room was nice, hotel interiors need some updating; again no service at all...no fault of the resort."

"We stayed at the Trapp Guest Houses and had a wonderful week. The views from the Guest Houses are truly amazing. Great hiking on the Trapps trails and other areas of Stowe. Felt completely safe with the cleanliness and no-contact check-in procedures. The unit was perfect for us, our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. And the Trapps Brewery has great lagers and delicious food. Can't wait to go back again."
"Even we lost most of the snow, we still had a fabulous week at the Trapp Family Lodge. The touches that make guests experience a little bit of Austria add so much to the stay. The resort does its best to maximize x-c skiing opportunities, and there is a lot to do when the skiing is not available. This is a spectacular spot."
"Love the Trapp Family Lodge. Cozy rooms, comfy beds, great atmosphere for a stay in Vermont. Our favorite spot to stay when we visit the Stowe area. Wouldn't want stay anywhere else! Bierhall is a nice addition to the property! Hiking trails are beautiful in the fall."

"We are sitting beneath the trees on the back of this beautiful property while I am writing this. This property is absolutely gorgeous and unbelievably clean and always kept up. The owners of this inn make us feel as though we have been lifelong friends. This is our fourth visit here and every visit is our best visit. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and will accommodate your every need. Judy, Andy, Cynthia and the rest of the staff are always helpful and are quick to give assistance on the planning of your day. The rooms are always clean and when you come back from breakfast they are already cleaned and restocked. And the breakfasts are simply delicious, wonderful and so abundant that lunch is an afterthought. This morning we had ginger whipped yogurt parfait with roasted apples, sausage cheddar waffles, eggs and Vermont maple syrup. This will certainly not be our last visit because we can truly say that The Inn at the Round Barn Farm feels like home to us Keith & Annette Muller New Orleans"
"Booked right on their website. Picked the “Barnard” room. Check in was a breeze, followed by a tour of the property and sampling of fresh chocolate chip cookies. Room had a queen bed with a jetted tub. Bathroom was good sized with great toiletries. Romantic. Quiet. Friendly staff. Breakfast was off the chain delicious The very best bed and breakfast we’ve ever stayed at. Two weddings and an elopement was going on the same weekend Staff is friendly and really makes you feel welcomed We cannot wait to return and are making this a yearly tradition Thanks for the wonderful weekend Scott and Sarah "
"Oh my goodness!! This Inn always feels like "home". We've visited this Inn many times now and the attention to detail is second to none. Each staff member is ready to help you anytime you need them. I feel like the leadership certainly comes from the top! Kim and Jim have become good friends and we always anxiously await our favorite time of the year when we get to visit our friends again. Breakfast would certainly be considered Gourmet! We are so excited each morning when we come down to read the board to know what is in store for us that day. We highly recommend this property!"

"My husband and I stayed at the Fairfield for a ski weekend getaway with friends recently and it will now be our top choice when skiing in this area. The service, cleanliness and location were all awesome. We like to get to the mountain first thing in the morning when skiing a full day so having a breakfast at the hotel always saves us time and gets us on the mountain quicker. The continental breakfast exceeded all of our expectations and was a great start to our long day! One of us left a very valuable item in our room. When we called the next day there was no hesitation that they would assist us to get it overnighted back to us on Long Island. They were invested, professional and efficient. I can’t imagine us not returned to this hotel for all future ski trips to this area of Vermont."
"Very new, very nice and very clean. Front desk staff was very pleasant. The morning breakfast that was “free” was excellent. The pool is VERY small. Hotel is close to Bolton Valley resort - about 18 min away. We dined at Reservoir restaurant and had Ben and Jerry’s after - very close to hotel. The room has a small fridge and coffee maker. "
"The hotel was a perfect location for adventures in Waterbury, Stowe, and Burlington! The room was a nice size and was clean and comfortable. Amenities were good. Breakfast was tasty including some gluten free options which were much appreciated. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Will definitely stay again!"

"I’m always lurking on Trip Advisor and I’m making it a point to make sure I let everyone know how AMAZING Field Guide Lodge is. After a long cold day driving to Stowe it was a blessing arriving at Field Guide Lodge, with a warm welcome and roaring fire in the fireplace. Kameisha, welcomed us with a warm smile and answered our numerous questions. There were cookies and cider there as well which were so good. The room was perfect for us. I thought it was a great size. We had a queen room in the main building. Outlets were next to both sides of the bed and a rack to hang up clothes. The heat worked gloriously and the bed was so comfortable. The bathroom is small especially the shower. That would be my only complaint and it wasn’t that big of a deal. The gift bag with the local treats were a nice touch. The cleaning ladies were so nice and friendly and did such an amazing job every day. After a long day of skiing it was so nice entering a nice warm clean room. Breakfast changes everyday and was delicious. It’s definitely QUALITY over Quantity. They always had enough and it was always readily available. Field has the perfect location. All the popular and good restaurants are in walking distance and only 15 minute drive to Stowe Mountain for skiing. Do yourself a favor and go to Piecasso for pizza, sooo good and they also deliver if you’re not inclined to drive(5 minutes) On our last day, we were to leave at 6am before breakfast. We mentioned this to the gentleman at the front desk and he got up and made us breakfasts bags for the next day. They were so good and appreciated. If you’re reading this and are on the fence, please do yourself a favor and book as you will not be disappointed. "
"It all looks so nice on the website but the reality is different. Other than the fact that our room was large (two large rooms actually), it did not make up for the many shortfalls of the property. The building itself was cheaply made and despite trying to look mid century modern, it could not hide the fact that everything under the surface is cheap. The floors creaked when you walk and we heard every footstep and thump from the people above us. All the finish carpentry and doors, fittings, locks and windows are what I would call "builder grade" and everything looked tired and old. The switch plates for the lights were all yellow with age and looked like they should have been replaced years ago. The patio furniture on our balcony was dirty and covered in leaves. We had to walk around the outside of the property to get to the reception for ice and clean glasses and it was all very dark and creepy and across the gravel parking lot. The two buildings are not connected to allow customers remain indoors. A rough-cut wooden back-splash in a bathroom is the worst idea ever and was covered in dried soap and toothpaste splatter. The plastic shower stall would be fitting in a campground or Motel 6; not a luxury boutique hotel. I understand that COVID has changed the level of service but other than a bag with some cookies, chocolate and some soap in our room at check in, the lack of any type of service made the whole experience second rate. The staff I did see (1 person at the front desk was all I ever saw) were nice enough but it was kind of weird to be in large hotel with only one person on duty. I had such high hopes for the whole chain of Lark hotels and thought it would be my "go-to" (default) while we lived here for a few years but I think maybe it is just some slick marketing (lipstick on a pig) to make some old properties look nice but when you pull back the covers you find out it is just smoke and mirrors. Maybe the other properties in the Lark portfolio are different but I am not willing to take another chance."
"We so enjoyed our stay at the Field Guide Lodge that we extended our stay twice. The location is perfect if you are planning to ski at Stowe yet be central enough in the evenings to go out into town. The hotel itself has a unique boutique feel with a modern Scandinavian design that feels warm and welcoming. We stayed in two different rooms while we were there. The larger deluxe room was very nice but the TV was quite far from the bed. The second smaller room was cozier and worked well for us too. The staff were all exceptional; very friendly and eager to help out. Food-wise, there is a restaurant across the road and the hotel serves a delicious curated breakfast that changes daily as well as beer and wine for an apres drink. In the afternoons and evenings, they also provide freshly baked cookies that are truly addictive. We will definitely be returning to this hotel!"

"My wife and I had a great stay at the Sun & Ski Inn. We stayed in the Deluxe King Suite which is located in the main building. They have the main building which houses the lounge, breakfast room, bowling alley, pool, hot tub and restaurant. Our room was located above the bowling alley, so we could hear a little noise from it, but it closes early so it was not a problem. Our room was very quiet, but it was located at the end of the hallway. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed (not that we used it much), and the bathroom was nice. They had cookies and hot chocolate waiting for us when we got back from skiing. The breakfast was a minimal step above what Hampton Inn serves, with the hot food being slightly better. Since we were located in the main building, it made it very convenient to try the pool and hot tub. There is a changing room for people who come from other buildings. The hot tub accommodates 4-6 people. There is a free bus that stops across the street to take you to slopes. During the week it runs every 30 minutes, on the weekend every 15 minutes, or you can drive yourself. There are lots of restaurants nearby with very diverse menus."
"Recently stayed in a river loft suite and was very pleased with the room layout and amenities. Everything was just as advertised. The bowling alley is a unique and fun feature that did not appear to be very busy...too bad! The only comment I have to mention is the lack of soundproofing between units. Thankfully we had relatively quiet neighbors but I could see where it could be an issue otherwise. This really has nothing to do with the main part of the hotel or the staff, so I'm still giving it 5 stars overall. "
"Clean and comfortable room, great bowling alley/restaurant and the included breakfast was everything you'd want from a continental spread. Plus, nothing beats a hot tub after a ski day. You can tell they want you to enjoy your time there. If I go to the Stowe area again I'll be staying here, no question."

"We haven't traveled to any hotels with my 3 small kids (age 1, 4, and 6) since covid, but we ventured to the Green Mountain Inn this past weekend to make an attempt at a little vacation. It was amazing. The outdoor heated pool was a hit with all 3 even though it was 50 degrees. They loved the fire pit and s'mores. Outdoor check-in was simple and fast. We got a family meal from the whip for dinner for take-out that was yummy. We did some of the suggested hikes on the print-out that we got at check-in which were so lovely. We did a take-out breakfast from the place next door and that was perfect too. My husband and I thought the Inn had done a great job implementing some COVID related changes to keep things safe. We stayed in the Mansfield House, which did require all of us to walk down a shared hall to get to the room, but we never really saw anyone else, so that was fine. We all loved it and want to go back."
"I had the misfortune to be given room G-306 which was closest to reception, ice machine and the stairs leading up to the second level of this motel style building. At 3:00am the first night a couple got into a fight near the steps. I asked them to move their discussion into their room. 15 minutes later they started arguing again and this time when I asked them to be quiet the man called me a “sounds like rich”! I called the main desk to complain. The next morning I spoke with reception. She was going to speak with the manager about the inconvenience. Nothing. I expected at least to be offered another room as I had paid the hotel directly at listed price. Nothing. As others have mentioned, the hotel no longer provides the niceties one expects from a good hotel. The conditioner pump in the bath had not been cleaned; there were drippings down the bottle from previous use. During these times of Covid it made me question the cleanliness and concern between guests to sanitize. The room did have a comfortable bed and large TV, but as others have said the rest of the furniture is seedy. I have read all the reviews with glowing comments. All of those guests were in a different part of the hotel. When booking you must be precise as to where you want to be. AND AS YOU WOULD DO AT A MOTEL, DO NOT ACCEPT A ROOM NEAR THE OFFICE AND/OR THE STAIRS LEADING TO THE SECOND LEVEL. "
"My husband and I visited Stowe to attend a concert and stayed at the Green Mountain Inn. I loved that the inn was right downtown in Stowe because we were able to walk to breakfast, to do shopping, etc. We stayed in a luxury room in the Mansfield house - we loved the king sized bed, jacuzzi in the room, and gas fireplace. The lobby of the building had hand sanitizer near the door. We encountered quite a few other guests that were not wearing masks in the lobby, halls, etc. This was not a fault of the hotel itself, but it did make me nervous. The room itself was really clean and well taken care of. Plenty of parking (we drive a big truck so this matters). At the time we visited (September 2020) the hotel was leaving 24 hours between rooms being booked for deep cleaning. We had a great experience and would love to stay again in the future. "
