The Oyster Point is my home hotel. I grew up right across the river from it (literally, you can see my mum's house from the North Suite), and have many good memories of holiday brunches, and staying here when I was younger. When I moved away from home and wanted to visit, but not stay with family this was my ”go-to”. It's really the only decent hotel in the Middletown area. ...and that may be why they have let the hotel go a bit. I got engaged over Christmas, and while we didn't want to have a full on engagement party, we did want to celebrate with a few very close friends, and COVID being COVID we didn't want to do it in public, but also didn't want to do it at our house. So, we rented the North Suite for Valentine's Day weekend to stay and invited two other couples for a dinner in the room on Saturday evening. THE GOOD: The room is very large and has amazing views from just about everywhere of Red Bank and the Navesink River. In the warmer weather this room would be paradise with the very large terrace overlooking the river. It has 1 full bathroom in the bedroom and a half bathroom in the living area which makes it ideal to have guests over. There is also a table that seats 6 comfortably (tho oddly only has chairs for 5). The staff was wonderful. They always have been. Every time I have ever been to this hotel the staff is so friendly and helpful. (More on the downside to this shortly). We ordered room service for our dinner Friday night and it was quick and tasty and again the service from ordering to delivering was great! THE BAD This room looks great from a distance, but up close it needs A LOT of updating. The chairs around the dining table were full of chips. The table was in bad shape. The sofa in the living area was DISGUSTING with a stain that took up half of it. We covered it with a runner from the bed because it is really disgusting looking. The room is full of wall to wall windows with a great view of everywhere, but it's curious because the one wall that goes along the far end of the room by the bar the shade couldn't be put up or down. There was no string/rope/whatever to do anything with it. (the shades in the bedroom go up and down with the flip of a switch and are blackout curtains. They are perfect for the bedroom) The other shades in the living area do go up and down, but they hardly keep any light out... ...which is I guess a good thing since the lighting situation in the room is abysmal. Once the sun sets even with every single light on in the room you can hardly read a book with the awful lighting in the main room (lighting in the bedroom and bathrooms is fine). The sink in the main bathroom in the bedroom is no joke about 3 inches deep. You can't even wash your hands in it. I have no idea who thought this was a good sink, but most puddles after a sun shower are more functional. The half bathroom in the living area has a more functional sink but the black wallpaper does not fit the hotel or vibe of the room at all. It's mau

As with many Marriott properties, this example has been updated and refreshed. Everything I need for a business trip is here including The Bistro where I can choose healthy meals ( or not :) . Also as is true with every Marriott property I have visited around the country, the staff is professional and very pleasant. The consistency of customer service is remarkable.

first room I booked was beautiful.. just like the picture.. but so hot.. the temp never went below 74 degrees.. I read the reviews and others complained about the air conditioner as well.. i said maybe I get a good room with no problem.. I went downstairs sweating make up burning my face and told the lady and she moved me to a different room immediately.. the next room was gourgeous as well buttt!!!!! the act temperature did not move pass 72 degrees ... was a horrible night for me .. my asthma cut up bad.. sweating and poor air quality dusty room and carpets need shampooing.. i brought my asthma machine thank God or I wouldv had to to er.. had to ask for amenities microwave etc.. pool close at 6pm and no breakfast not even a bag breakfast.. I even had to pay for Wi-Fi.. the lady at the desk said they email me about my stay but I'm still waiting. was a horrible stay.. had to kill a killer gnat chased me and my daughter around the room wanting our food.. coughed so much from that no air conditon.. poor air quality.. dirty filter in AC unit and carpet that need shampooing that i threw up and just waited for check out.. left sweating make up into my eyelids!!! underarms and shirt was drenched..this was two weeks ago!!

We stayed at the hotel because we attended a birthday party and did not want to deal with an hour and a half drive back home. We pre checked in via the Hilton app. As soon as we arrived we headed for our room. The staff at the counter greated us with a smile as we rushed to the elevator. When we went back out, to get to our party, the staff at the counter waived goodnight. When we returned back to the hotel, we stopped at the front desk to get a key for the room, the staff was polite, and friendly. The room was clean and large in size. Overall we had a great stay.

I really enjoyed my stay so much that I am going back again tomorrow night. I have been a guest at this hotel 3 times, and this stay was the best. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have free coffee in the lobby like at Tbe Oyster Point.

We have stayed at this property in the past and did not encounter the following situation. Had it not been for the alerts my bank sends when any charges hit my card, I would have never known. Apparently this property charges a $50 security deposit immediately upon check in along with the full charge for every night of the stay (whether in person or digitally). Once you check out, the charge is reversed and the regular charges for the stay apply. There is no prior notification on either the website for HIE, the local website for this property, details of the room nor the reservation conversation. I thought this a very sly and slick practice. Also the AC units in the rooms do not shut off; they have a permanent fan blowing. The temperature can be adjusted but the fan will continue to blow. The front desk suggested unplugging the AC unit but the cable goes right from the unit deep into the floor, not to an outlet; so this fix was not practicable. In the case of Room 236 which we stayed in, the in room safe was broken (looked like a forced entry if the prior guest didn't remember their combination; the lock was totally gone from the safe making it unusable). We've stayed before and will stay again; overall not a bad property; just a few minor glitches this stay.

We booked 20 rooms at the Holiday Inn for our wedding and we were very satisfied with our stay. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful. Sam the manager saw that all our needs were taken care of before arriving to the hotel. The young lady at the front desk was amazing and any trouble I had before my stay was taken care of and check in and check out were seem less. I wish I remembered her name because she truly made our stay worth while. (Sam, give her a promotion).
