"We were given a spa and afternoon tea as a present. Booking this meant we had to book well in advance and state when we were going to take the afternoon tea. There is ample car parking ( I did not see a charge point for our electric car). The spa is in the converted church. We were given slippers, robe, and towel and directed to the changing rooms. There is a coded number for the lockers. I did not see any signs to shower first before entry to the spa. The showers are difficult to get hot and have poor water power ( My wife ended with a near cold shower. At least after trying three showers I found something warmer). It would have been nice to have something in addition to the shower soap dispenser eg. shampoo, conditioner. If you go to Japan you will find all of these in hotel spas, including disposable razors and shaving foam etc.such as toothbrushes. There is a moderate size swimming pool, steam room, sauna, and a couple of jacuzzis. All facilities are clean. There are loungers. There is a water dispenser by the pool side- shame for the environment to have plastic cups when paper ones are available even in high street coffee shops. I was really annoyed that I had to pack a wet swim suit when almost every other hotel spa facility has had a spin-dryer ( as does my fitness club pool. A walk around the hotel corridors and down the stairs, with its magnificent dome ( why is there a helium balloon floating at the top?) takes you to the tea room with a nice view of the grounds and comfortable arm chairs ( if you wish). We were offered some prosecco or juice. Although on time for our booking, we waited 10 minutes thereafter. The hight tea had some merit. The sandwiches were without imagination ( egg - plain, grated cheese- plain, tuna - plain). A choice of brown or white bread would have been nice ( we had a mixture). The little scones were warm, and nice with the small commercial jar of strawberry jam and generous cream. The shortbread was excellent , as was the chocolate cake. The lemon posset was nice. The tea and coffee fine. Really though, I could have baked and cooked similar, and my no means am I a chef. With a little more thought, the high tea could be upgraded to good-excellent. The spa needs to have the facilities within the changing rooms upgraded to that which you would expect from an ensuite in such a hotel. A hot shower with water power is fairly essential. The place was not crowded as the corona virus pandemic was just getting going in the UK."
"We stayed here in March 2020. We had a Spa facial which was excellent. It was a very relaxing experience and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The 3 course meal which was booked for 7pm was absolutely delightful. We had Leek and potatoes soup followed by pressed Lamb which was so tasty and tender. My raspberry Bakewell tart was so light. The bedroom was very nice as was the ensuite. There was a bit of a treck to find the bedroom, there was a droning noice from the radiator which did disturb our sleep. I notified the hotel and they said they would get maintenance to check it out. This would not put me off staying here again as we had a wonderful time in lovely surroundings. Give it a try when you are able. Well done to the attentive staff."
"My friend and I stayed at Shrigley Hall on an overnight spa break package over the weekend. The staff we met were very nice however the spa itself was way TOO busy. It was not relaxing at all which was so disappointing. The spa bar / restaurant was significantly understaffed due to the numbers of people in the spa,at some points during the day it was chaotic - queues for fizz, staff running around, finished crockery not being taken away, no glassess available which meant others being washed far too quickly. The spa itself was ok - standard facilities. There was not enough lockers for everyone, no loungers / seats available, lots of towels / drinks dotted all over as too many people were booked in. This was not a good experience for what was supposed to be a planned relaxing weekend. Evening dinner was nice, a different experience all together. The food was delicious. The restaurant staff were superb. Our room was comfy and clean, a bit outdated however it was fine for a one night stay. Breakfast was nice, a good range of choices. Following breakfast we had a full body message as part of the package which was lovely. My friend and I enjoyed our time together however we both said we would not return at all. I have emailed the hotel seperately to let them know my review, (no response as yet)."
