It seems that I accidentally booked the biggest room and left the front desk a little far. The last section of the road was going to climb the stairs. The waiter helped us to get a very heavy box. The kitchen facilities were all in place. Although we didn’t cook our own tea, we had a small table. Sitting on it is still very good parking is very convenient breakfast is also very delicious

The hotel room is small, in the city center. Free parking is available. Every room was given a teddy bear, very cute. It can be taken away for free. The only downside is that it is rude to call the host at 11 o'clock in the morning. I clearly wrote a check-out at 12 o'clock and told me that someone had to check in. . . This is very excessive.

Came to Christchurch for our wedding anniversary and thought will stay in a small cozy hotel instead of big hotel chain. Salisbury Hotel didnt dissapoint us. Because of its small size, they were attentive to details. They took the trouble to decorate our room for our wedding anniversary and provided a small bottle of liquor and snack in our room. The hotel is very new so all the fixtures are new. Best thing is they have netflix in the room which is absolutely better than the lousy sky provided by other hotels. They have a spa bath in the bathroom and even have a bluetooth mirror that plays music frm your phone. The only downside is the bed and pillows are on the hardside for us. The room we booked came with continental breakfast. Nothing too fanciful. Overall it is a good place to stay
- Guest User
Attractive at first glance (although smaller bedroom than expected) but as another reviewer has commented it is weirdly overdone. In particular we found the plastic protectors over the mattress and pillows noisy at night and the electronics of the bathroom a bit much. Spotlessly clean however. Good to have netflix and to be reasonably close to art centre & CBD.

”I recently stayed at Mayfair Hotel and had a wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I slept soundly throughout the night. The hotel's location was also ideal, with easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants. I particularly enjoyed the on-site restaurant, which served delicious food and had a great atmosphere. Overall, I would highly recommend Mayfair Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay. The staff's hospitality and attention to detail truly made my visit memorable, and I look forward to returning in the future.”

Excellent rooms and equipment all recently furbished. Service is great with friendly and welcoming staff. Location is just a step away form the park and a short walk into the city along the river. Plenty of dining options nearby

We are not familiar with the area and we had difficulty locating the hotel, going around in circles until we phoned the duty manager to find it is in the old Government Building and the car could be parked out the front for unloading. The duty manager was so helpful with parking and checking us in and out. The building is beautiful, our suite on the first floor furnished lovely. The room was very warm and stuffy, the windows do not open and there is no air-con. - you get a ceiling fan for downstairs and an electric pedestal fan in the bedroom. The staircase was quite steep up to the bedroom so we left our bags downstairs where there was more room. The bathroom (upstairs) was very small, out of character with the floor area downstairs. There was disturbance often during the night from heavy footsteps in a room above. We have decided to stay elsewhere on our return to the city.
- Guest User
The location is very convenient. It is very close to the downtown area, children's playground, places to eat (riverside market), and library. The building is very distinctive, the government building 100 years ago. The cleaning staff are very nice. facilities are a bit old. The water on the washbasin on the first floor was a little clogged. The kitchen stove is a bit greasy. Although we didn't cook, we still wiped the stove and the nearby walls several times. It also shows that the last guest was too unconscious.

I don’t usually write reviews but this is such a beautiful place that I have decided to! I decided to stay one night here before travelling home back down South. After googling new places, I chose The Observatory based in the beautiful William Morris decor! It is really a stunning place to stay if you like good design and architecture. Aside from those already great things, the room was beautiful and comfortable with great colours and design elements. The sitting room or library has the most incredible selection of books that it is worth staying here for those and having a relaxing evening in reading. The artwork along the corridors and in the room is exceptional. If you are a tea or coffee drinker then you will love choice of great quality tea or coffee. If you are a product lover then you will love the freshness of the bathroom products. Last but not least, the staff are friendly and professional and offer some of the best customer service I have come across in recent years. I cannot wait to go on another trip and stay here again. Thank you for creating such a beautiful place in a magically calm area.

Unexpected historic University building in a great location, tastefully and vibrantly decorated, a perfect stop for the weary traveler. Wood, Nespresso, incredibly soft sheets and fluffy towels with a nice continental bfast to kick start the morning. We spent 2 hours enjoying a walk in the Botanical Gardens; beautiful. Great service and private feeling in this boutique hotel. (As in other big cities in NZ, beware the Saturday nights, they are loud and rowdy till early hours. Recommend white noise on night stand on “high”).

The loveliest - particular thanks to Sam - front desk staff (and efficient too). Excellent location, only a short walk to the centre, and very pleasant if you go through the park. There is also a bus stop directly outside; it will take you to the centre, or go to the bus station and take a trip to Sumner or Lyttleton - both worth a visit. Rooms are spacious and clean, beds comfortable. For some reason though, complimentary water and crisps only appeared on our first day! Useful to have a guest laundry, but be warned there is only one machine for all floors... The kitchen area is fine, but not for those who want to cook up a storm - you need to ask for pots and pans. Not a problem for us as we preferred to eat out (try Rangoon Ruby nearby, good, if somewhat 'neutralized' flavours, as the waitress herself put it!) . Overall a really pleasant stay in a very interesting city.

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Sudima. The room was comfortable with good quality bed and linens. It included a kitchenette, as is the NZ way. We used the valet parking, which was very useful although there is also a small self-park car park. As others have said, it’s a short and pleasant walk to the city centre and a range of bars, restaurants and attractions. We loved botanical garden which was stunning. We returned to the hotel about 9.30pm hoping to have a drink in the bar. We did get a drink but they were closing and clearing up around us, so it wasn’t very relaxing. We assumed due to ongoing staff shortages, but it would have been helpful to know about the early closing time. All staff we met were very helpful and professional.

Comfortable hotel in Heart of City. Booked a room using points as a Gold Elite. Requested quiet room and was appointed 3rd floor over traffic lights so receptionist kindly moved me to a room on opposite side. It was quiet however the walls are thin and I can hear a lot of noise this morning - a lot of noise. Room service eggs were excellent, as was bar service last night. They know how to make a good drink. I was a bit annoyed as mini bar knocked this am and said she thought there was “no one in the room” whilst I was on a call. Not so professional. Can recommend as a good hotel in Christchurch (I’ve stayed in quite a few)

I liked this room the best so far. (The Boutique hotel in Queenstown was the only one that was better.) The lighting was flexible. We had a window seat, desk, King bed, modern bathroom, walk in shower. Only odd thing was the shower had a clear wall facing the bedroom. It had a blind that could be lowered, but why? The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The hotel is across the street from a tram stop. Perfect. We stayed there for four days and it was lovely.

Staff is very friendly and check in on counter was fairly easy. The staff saw that we had a lot of luggages and let us bring the airport trolley to our room. So the next day we just push the trolley from hotel to airport. Which is very convenient for us with many luggages. I will definitely come back this hotel again for next stay due to the location and friendly staff. Hotel buffet was good too. And nice view from the restaurant.

This hotel is a short walk and is nearest to the Christchurch International Airport. It is also about 10mins walk away from Countdown supermarket and some eateries.

The hotel is in a great location, but it is a big hotel. The staff are very pleasant and they make it feel more personal. It is close to shops, restaurants / cafes, the tram and most of what Christchurch city has to offer. We booked direct with the hotel, a good price for the location, but our studio room had a view of a carpark and other room windows. The room was big enough but an extra chair would have been better. We did not like the uncomfortable pillows and the extremely heavy bed cover we had to remove. We don’t normally ask for clean towels each day, but had to with no where to hang to dry sufficiently and no electric towel hanger like we have had in most other hotels we’ve stayed in NZ. Overall a pleasant stay and no problem with valet parking.

This is a modern tower block right in the heart of the city, well placed for walking to most things in Christchurch. It's a bit chain, bit corporate, but hey. It's modern, clean, spacious. My room was large & well appointed. Free WiFi everywhere. Dining room good breakfast buffet in terms of quality & quantity. Bit crowded around the servery though for such a large space. Recommended.
