"As many reviewers have noted, the location of this hotel situated just off of the main square of Scopello is perfect and charming. The ambience is also simple but cozy and our room was small but seemingly comfortable with an extraordinary view of the tonnara. Upon first impressions, we were delighted. As I think a lot of guests may do, we opened the doors of our small balcony to let in the sea breeze and at night when we returned to the room, did the same. At about 3 am, we were awoken by sounds of mosquitos who were torturing us. When we turned on the lights, our room was covered in what we think must have been at least a hundred mosquitos -- on the walls, ceiling, behind our bed, they were everywhere. My partner immediately went to seek help and some kind of repellant to remove them. The man attending the desk that night was very apologetic and said that this "happens often" and that most guests don't know to keep the doors shut at all times. We were absolutely perplexed as so why the hotel staff had not warned us of this or mentioned anything. We were never given any instruction on how to use the AC (which is not straight forward -- it is on some kind of auto device that turns it off whenever the windows open, I suppose to save money...) nor were we ever told about the mosquito problem around the periphery of the property. In all honesty it's not that there are mosquitos outside that is the problem for us -- we understand that this happens in rural areas in the summer. What is frustrating and unnerving is that the hotel staff did not provide adequate warning on how to deal with this. We felt this was a gross negligence. Long story short, our bodies were covered in huge bites and we slept a total of probably 2 hours that night. The next morning, we spoke with the front of house woman, who rather than apologize, smugly said "you expect us to tell every guest to watch out for mosquitos? impossible." She was defensive and arrogant, making it seem like we were just silly tourists. We were very disappointed in her reaction and simply left with a bad taste of this hotel. We wont be back here and unfortunately cannot recommend this place. It is true that they are in this business just for the money and do not take pride in or responsibility for the experience they create for their guests."
"Scopello was our first stop after landing in Palermo and the Hotel Torre Bennistra was our first hotel. It was a breath of fresh air after a day of travel. We were very warmly welcomed by a very professional, young Italian woman. The curtains were blowing through the windows with views from every room. The rooms were so quaint. Our room was green, our children had a lilac room. This is one of those very comfortable style hotels with setees and artwork. This is a tiny town and looks like a movie set. Walking distance to swimming and the Zingaro Nature Trail, which was a highlight of our trip. Pepe's sandwiches were to die for. The view from the patio is beautiful. I would not want to go in July, August as I am afraid it is probably overrun by tourists. We hope to return someday."
"My family and I enjoyed our time in Sicily and stayed at the Torre Bennistra hotel. The drive from Palermo was relatively easy and parking was not too far away. We enjoyed our time immensely and the staff were fantastic and warm to us throughout our stay. We did have a problem with air conditioning in our room with it only working for two of our five nights. This was quite uncomfortable in the summer heat and opening the windows and doors was not an option due to mosquitos. Had the air conditioning in our room worked this would have been a flawless stay."
