Wanosato is located next to a picturesque rock strewn river surrounded by old pine trees. The setting is quiet and relaxing with just the sound of flowing water. If you’re planning to explore Takayama you will need transportation for the short drive there. The well established ryokan has several baths available and they are all enjoyable. Our room was spacious and clean with good AC and a small refrigerator. There is a charge for non alcoholic drinks from the refrigerator which is different from other ryokans on our trip. Meals were excellent without fail and the service level is very good. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Shuttle service to and from the train station. Very pleasant stay.

Dinner is served on the road, and breakfast is placed on the table in advance. The disadvantage is that it is far away from the JR station. The hotel has a shuttle bus from the JR station during the day. If you arrive at the store at night, you have to walk a long way, and there are few shops.

This is a ryokan built in 1850. It is located next to the river and opposite the Honkoji Temple. It is a 3-5 minute walk to the core attractions such as Baibi Tuzang Street. The main feature of this restaurant is actually Japanese, and dinner is banquet. The price is certainly not low, but value for money! The breakfast and dinner are great, it is worth trying, the breakfast is rich and varied, the breakfast every day is like a work of art, and the utensils are very eye-catching. Dinner was set for one night at 8,800 yen per person, which is the most expensive and most hearty meal in Japan. At dinner, the hotel thoughtfully took a picture for us, and the photo will be given away at breakfast the next day. The hot springs open from morning to night. Amazing place to stay! In the middle of the mountains. The location is a bit far from the centre but you have a bus stop in front of the hotel. The rooms are really clean and spacious, really quiet atmosphere and the staff really kind. I recommend it.

I like the Tanabe hotel very much. The grandma is very cute. Japanese introduced us to some of the hotel facilities in English. He took us to choose a bathrobe and asked us where we came from. Then I said thank you in Chinese. Then I introduced the hotel wall. The calligraphy on it was written by her dad. Her dad is an artist. It is really great. The grandma in the hotel are all dressed in kimonos. They prepare dinner for us after a busy day and then introduce the menu. The dinner was super rich and we were stunned. It is banquet cuisine. It is richer than kaiseki cuisine. Every dish is exquisite and delicious. The seafood is fresh. There are two or three slices of Hida beef. Did not eat a very special flavor, but the meat is not old, okay, we have a total of four people occupy a room to enjoy this hearty banquet cuisine, beautiful.

We were 4 to, this traditional Japanese hotel, in a single room with tatami and sleeping on the ground. Typical Japanese breakfast and dinner equals two days. We take advantage of,go to the onsen. It is inexcellent location6, excellent and good quality food treatment. Very good experience. We offer you free transport service to the train or bus station. There is a store at the first floor with typical products. You must leave the shoes at the,enter the hotel and go with shoes inside that give you them

We stayed two nights here and the owners were so accommodating, providing us with shuttle buses and making bookings where we needed. The breakfast was a traditional authentic fancy Japanese affair, and it was lovely. We felt that we were honoured guests rather than clients. Authentic Japanese onsen available, A fair way from the train Station, about 1,000 yen by Cab. Once there they did not hesitate to get the bus out and shuttle us around. Close to a laundromat as we needed to wash. A bit quirky, but well worth a visit.

Takayama was easily the best place we visited during our entire visit to Japan. We stayed 2 nights in a Japanese style room with a private outdoor bath and dinner and breakfast. The room was absolutely beautiful - so spacious, clean, and luxurious, with all the amenities we could have needed. The outdoor bath was heavenly, and the view from the balcony was the icing on the cake. It was lovely to come back from dinner and have our futons laid out for us. If you’re looking for a truly traditional Japanese dining experience then look no further. We had a private dining booth, and the food was served in small courses. The food itself was very different to what we’re used to, and it was quite intimidating! But the staff did a good job at explaining what everything was and how to eat it. We were concerned that we might have communication issues since Hoshokaku is away from the big cities, and we weren’t sure how prominent English would be here. But the staff spoke the clearest English of any other accommodation we stayed at. They were so attentive all the time that we almost felt like royalty. We’re already planning to stay again when we next visit Japan! One last thing I’d like to mention is to address concerns in previous reviews about smoking in the building. I think this must be something which has completely changed; we didn’t get a whiff of smoke anywhere in the building. The entire place was immaculate and honestly a joy to wander around in.

The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Takayama Station. The soup house is relatively small, there are free bicycles to use, small gifts to leave the store, and a taxi was also called for help.
