"First things first, this is a great golf hotel and spa. We cannot fault either. The men enjoyed the golf and my spa treatments were excellent. The grounds are as beautiful as ever. Reception and concierge are good. But the hotel rooms ( we were in a west wing deluxe room...) are dated now, they haven’t changed since I stayed here 13 years ago /10 years ago and a few years ago.... not one thing ! They are on a par with a higher end budget hotel now. In fact maybe worse - the sofa in our room had stains and marks on it- eeeeew. The carpet had also seen better days, particularly on the stairways and corridors. There was an old docking station that didn’t work and we had to ask for a plug adapter as no usb sockets - it just didn’t feel modern luxury 5 star at all. The Perspex containers in the corridors with old china / feathers/ scarves and the cow pictures really have seen better days! Time for an upgrade I’d say. We went to the bar before dinner in the Glasshouse restaurant. We sat at a table - only one available, it had lots of wet glass marks on it, it needed wiping down. I did that with a wet wipe as no one seemed interested in that or in taking our drinks order. Eventually our order was taken... very functional, no niceties... have you had a good day, that sort of thing. We had a G and T each and asked for some crisps/ nuts/ pretzels... anything? They had apparently run out of everything. Hmmmm. I don’t mind paying £16 x2 at all but you do expect a little something - a clean table a mat to put your drink on, even if crisps or nuts are a step too far- maybe a smile or a few pleasantries. It’s sad the Glasshouse can’t do their very good buffet now due to Covid. I think it was it’s saving grace. Our meal (from the a la carte menu) was very simply - tasteless. It was very average quality - don’t have the onion bhaji... a few strands of deep fried onions in an unidentifiable sauce... dreadful. The staff are just functioning... not particularly well trained nor aiming to please or provide a high end service. They’re just doing a job, serving very average food. The dinner and ambience actually was on a par with an airport hotel restaurant both in look, feel, the service and the food. My review is harsh because it needs to be - I actually really love this place and have been coming here for years and have many good memories. The golf centre and spa continue to be really good. But the restaurants, service and rooms do not warrant the price tag anymore and the hotel is over promoting itself on it’s website. Such a shame. Please do something about it and don’t continue to go downhill. "
"We stayed as a family for one night with two young children in September. The hotel grounds are very beautiful and we had a lovely room overlooking the gardens. The family room worked well for a 3 and 6 year old with a sofa bed and put you up bed for the kids. The breakfast and dinner we had were both fantastic and the service was very good. The walled garden was open during our stay and we were able to use the outdoor pool area. The kids pool is fairly basic but the kids enjoyed it. We didn’t use the SPA pool. We hired bikes to explore the forest area which was fun. Unfortunately the kids playground wasn’t well maintained, it was full of nettles, dirty glasses and a couple of towels (same dirty items there on the Saturday and the Sunday). Another reviewer had mentioned their room didn’t contain water which I remembered. When we arrived our room didn’t contain the complimentary water but this was provided on request. In all a lovely stay and I would recommend the hotel for a short stay."
"Absolutely 10/10 experience. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. When we arrived they upgraded our room free of charge and gave us a late checkout - nothing is too much trouble. The food was amazing and the waiting staff were so polite and attentive. I also had a massage booked which was so professional- I suffer from eczema and she knew exactly what products to use to help with sensitive and dry skin. My boyfriend also played a round of golf and said how pristine the course was and how lovely all the staff were to him. We had such an amazing experience we will definitely come back every year for our anniversary!! As for Coronavirus they took every precaution they could with ample masks and hand sanitizer readily available. Thank you so much for our fantastic stay :) "

"Attended a spa day with a girlfriend and everything that you would hope for just didn’t happen. Arrived at 9:00 am, the assistant sat us down in the waiting area and offered us “ a drink”. My friend had water and I had a cup of tea. A receptionist came over to us and talked about upgrading. There was no information about the benefits of upgrading but rather just listing the items the upgrade included. We declined but as my friend’s spa day hadn’t included a treatment she was then charged £98 for a massage. All of this happened in the first 10 minutes of arriving. We hadn’t seen each other so we’re chatting over our tea and water and the receptionist came over to us 3 times asking if we were ready to go in. On the third try I said, our treatments don’t happen till 11:00 so if u could come back to us at 9:45 maybe we would’ve finished our drinks and we’d be happy to go through. Her response was that if she’s not available because it would be very busy with other guests coming in, we could always go to the reception area and ask for help. And only now are we told we were entitled to a welcome smoothie! No problem we said we’ll have it later. In that time, only about 4 other guests came into the said waiting area and all we could hear is the staff trying to “upgrade” everyone with no takers. From the point of going into the spa we were now very much left on our own. No one came to show us to our treatments so I set an alarm so that we could go back to the public waiting area as advised. Now we are in our robes, in the same place where new arrivals are coming, waiting to be collected. My massage was GREAT, my friend said hers was basic. The same massage; different masseurs, totally different experience. Then we were shown to the chill room - perfect, but why Aren’t people allowed to wait here, when you’ve changed into your robes awaiting your treatment, instead of going back outside with the arriving guests? So now again, alarm set to go for lunch as no one Was coming to show us to the dining room. We were told earlier that dining would be a la carte so when we sat down to a buffet we were worried that we were in the wrong dining room however we weren’t. We had our starter salads and left our plates to go for the main. When we got back the used plates weren’t cleared until we asked for some water and asked for the table to be cleared. At this point we learn we have to pay for drinks. For the money you’ve already paid, can you not have one soft drink included? Wow! Food though, was AMAZING - thank goodness. On leaving the dining room we are asked for payment. I was in shock, could this not be added to a tab and settled when you’re checking out? Why would I have cash or card on me when I just came from a massage? So back to the locker to get payment. Back to the restaurant then back to the chill zone. When we went back to the chill room (2 and a half hours after we left to go to lunch) the lounge beds were in disarray with the sheets all over and pe"
"Me and my partner went for a night to use the spa facilities and have a nice meal. The service we received was excellent. When the lunch came out late the chef personally came and apologised even though it wasn’t necessary. During dinner I had probably the best beef fillet I’ve ever eaten and was cooked to perfection by the chef Joe. Toby our waiter was amazing with his friendly easy going yet professional personality. The team there really made our night great and would highly recommend a visit."
"3rd time returning to Sopwell House for afternoon tea and once again I was not let down. Such great value and the food is incredible! Not to mention how friendly all the staff are. Would 100% recommend and I will definitely be going back."

"It's easy to miss the place - there's no signpost pointing the way, but on the gateposts out front there's a plaque marked TORRINGTON HOUSE. The entrance to the car park is actually up the road to the right, then immediately left; it's not signposted (but apparently they're doing something about that). No matter which car park you use, you'll still need to walk around to the entrance at the main road side. We were greeted warmly, warned that there was no breakfast nor evening meals but pointed up the town and recommended places to try out. Our room was high up on the top floor and *huge* with some traditional old-fashioned furniture in keeping with its age yet with clean, modern touches (e.g.: bedside power points, dimmable lighting, wifi, flat-screen TV etc)... there was nothing decrepit about this place. In the room was a personalised letter covering all details we needed to know, as well as some toiletries provided - but there were also plenty down in the shared bathroom along with spare towels... everything felt very well-organised. The shared bathroom itself was only just outside the door; I enjoyed a good warm shower and the room itself was pretty warm too, despite the chilly night. For the amount we paid, it was pretty reasonable and an excellent stay away. I picked it as a stopping-off point outside London to break up a journey to Hull, and didn't know what to expect - but after my stay I'm seriously toying with the idea of a return visit to explore more of St Alban's."
"As a family we hired 2 of the conference rooms, with use of a kitchen to host a family Christmas meal, 23 of us. A number of the family also stayed over. What a day, what a great venue and a superb service. The Rooms were decorated with Christmas trees and decorations - very festive. We got early access to the rooms and kitchen to set up and cook, the staff on duty were extremely helpful and supportive helping to ensure that our special day went without a hitch. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Torrington Hall, I would recommend this as a venue for anyone and everyone."
"On arrival we where disappointed to be left on the doorstep unable to get in. We emailed ahead to say we would be there around six so wasn't even like the middle of the night! After someone finally letting us in there was no 'welcome' as you would expect just a 'I will show you your room'. On entering the room it looked nice, clean, plenty of room, once we had been in it a while we started noticing things. Knobs off the bed missing, no air con. Having a shower the extraction fan hardly worked so the windows and mirrors all steamed up and the floor in the bathroom became an ice rink. The bed was so uncomfortable and pillows all lumpy. TV to small for the room. Our room opened straight out into a shared kitchen so in the morning we had the pleasure of listening to banging cupboards, scraping chairs and much chatter! Paying for a deluxe room you expect to enjoy your stay but unfortunately I would rather have stayed in a travel lodge. The morning we left we did not see anyone, nobody to take our key from us and ask if everything was OK and did we enjoy our stay.... we thought it was very unprofessional! The building itself was lovely and great location to get into London but that was all in my opinion."

"I thought I had booked rooms at a country pub with bedrooms.... just shows I should take more notice of the descriptions on booking sites! The Bedford Arms is a delightful country hotel with great staff, beautiful comfy rooms and excellent food! My daughter and I stayed for one night but wished it could have been more, such was the quality and welcome. We visited my godaughter and her family in nearby Rickmansworth and then arrived at the hotel. The rooms were lovely, I stayed in the yellow and blue room on the photographs. The bed was soooo comfy, I had the best night sleep I have had in ages. We ate at the hotel and I can honestly say that it was probably the best meal I have had in ages. Tiger prawns, Sea Bass and pear and almond tart all cooked to perfection. The staff were lovely, welcoming and attentive and the service at dinner was impeccable. After a great night's sleep we had a freshly cooked excellent breakfast which just carried on from the excellent standards of the night before. I would recommend The Bedford Arms hotel, it was a great find and I thought the rooms were great value, well stocked with tea, coffee and toiletries. I hope we get to stay there again the future. Thank you, the Bedford Arms team for such a great stay!"
"I stayed here for work and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. I stayed in the John Russel which was very spacious, had lovely country views, a bath and overhead shower, TV and free WiFi! Very useful for working from the room. The food was a real surprise. Very tasty, high quality and a very good price... especially for the quality. I had calamari, rump or lamb and chocolate brownie which I later found out was vegan... although I had no idea and it was delicious. The lamp was perfectly cooked and everything in all of the dishes was packed full of flavour but nothing over powered anything else but rather complimented the rest of the dish. The bar is very relaxed but has an air of country chic elegance. The dinning room where breakfast is served over looked the gardens which, even in chilly March, are well maintained. The staff and service could not be faulted. Friendly, professional, welcoming and knowledgeable. I visited for work but would happily drive the 2-3 hours for a break here with my hubby. Highly recommend. "
"I’d arranged to meet my friend at The Bedford Arms for dinner for a catch up. Gin & tonics in hand we reviewed the evening menu & noticed several new dishes - 3 new starters, 6 new mains & 5 new desserts- this was going to be difficult! I started with the Tempura prawns with sweet chilli dip & Asian salad - delicious & my friend had the Whitebait (both dishes are available as a main course option). We both chose the slow cooked pork belly which melted in your mouth & the crackling was perfect. Now I wasn’t going to have a dessert but seeing as my friend ordered the apple & plum crumble, I was tempted by the coffee panacotta, salted caramel & gingerbread crush - quite superb. The whole evening was very enjoyable with the staff who had the right balance between attentive & in your face. The menu is extensive & caters for vegan & vegetarians as well as meat eaters like myself & caters for most budgets too. I’m a frequent visitor & never disappointing- so well worth a visit or two ... or more."

"I'm really disappointed to have to give The Manor's afternoon tea such a lowly rating, as I love the hotel and the staff are always friendly and accommodating. But the tea was a big let-down, and unfortunately left half of our party with stomach problems afterwards. First, let me thank our wonderful male waiter who couldn't have looked after us better. He was engaged, funny, and tried his very best to accommodate our needs. A real credit. The food at the afternoon tea was sufficient without being plentiful, and unlike most other high teas, any additional finger sandwiches or scones were extras. The sandwiches didn't taste completely fresh, particularly the salmon, and some of the bread used was on the dry side. The tea selection is limited and no refills were offered, though extra hot water was available on request. Scones were excellent and the mini cakes and pastries were satisfactory without being particularly good. I would of course have been more generous in my rating had half of us not been unwell afterwards. No, not the awful coronavirus pandemic but stomach cramps and nausea. Sadly we can only think it was something we ate at The Manor as none of us had eaten together earlier that day. So we'd think carefully before returning, but I hope this won't stop anyone reading this from booking a stay at the hotel, which is lovely. I'm just not sure you'd want to eat much there."
"On the evening of Friday 20th March the planned venue for my daughter's wedding which was due to take place on Saturday 21st March, rang and cancelled! As my daughter was booked into The Manor for Friday 20th and Sat 21st March we asked if they could help. They were amazing and saved the day giving us use of a function room, laying it all out at such short notice. They even rolled out the red carpet at the entrance for the bride and groom's arrival at the hotel. The staff were so helpful, we couldn't have asked for more. A massive thank you to all at this truly gorgeous hotel for making what could have been a disaster into a very special day!"
"I stayed whilst my daughter was having surgery at a hospital near by, made complicated by Covid restrictions re visitors. I was very kindly allowed to check in early. Jo on reception was very helpful, as were all the staff. The room, in a modern annex, was fairly standard, but the bed was incredibly comfortable and I slept very well. The actual manor, where the restaurant and bar are situated, is wonderfully beamed and decorated sympathetically. Breakfast was very good, but my evening meal was a bit ‘pubby’ however, I think under normal times their menu is different. Overall a very pleasant stay, in difficult times. "

"Very nice hotel in a great location (right next to Wembley Stadium, London Designer Outlet, several eateries and a short walk from Wembley Park Station with its Jubilee and Metropolitan line trains into Central London). Room was clean and in good condition with a nice big bed. Staff were friendly and helpful whenever I needed anything. Buffet breakfast offered a lot of choice indeed and Eva and Anita were both very helpful and welcoming in the restaurant. The pool, steam room and sauna facilities were easy to book and the gym/pool team were friendly and helpful in doing this. The one thing which could be improved was the fact that you can't put anything in your room fridge as it is packed full of minibar items. This wasn't a huge issue, but it would have been nice to have a bit of shelf space in there to store some water on a hot day. Also, it would have been helpful to have a minibar menu clearly displayed, as the QR code which you scan in your room to get the food menu does not have prices for the minibar drinks on it. Thus, I avoided taking any drinks from the minibar as I wasn't sure of the exact prices. Would go back to this hotel if I end up in the area in the future as it was a very relaxing experience."
"+Air conditioner was but noisy whirring noise +Pillows are so uncomfortable really soft and your head dissappear inside it. I couldn't sleep 3 nights. The mattress also was not great. +not any great views from bedrooms +windows don't open at all +breakfast was standard acceptable +hotel was very clean +not really any communal areas to sit around. +sky bar on 9th floor was good views overlooking Wembley +start were very polite and accommodating +room service needs to be requested but is high quality +swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi all great facilities but needs pre booking slot annoyingly. Max 1hour +gym is acceptable and very new quality equipment +location in the middle of Wembley shopping park so lots all around +not much greenery anywhere. "
"Staff amazing from the moment I arrived until the moment I checked out. Friendly & polite from reception to restaurant to housekeeping… Recommended - I’ll be returning…"

"We stayed on Halloween night and there was a lovely atmosphere. The two young ladies who waited our table were very pleasant and professional. They helped along way in making it a pleasant visit. During dinner and breakfast they made sure we were okay and took time to talk to us. So nice when people take time to talk. They are a great attribute to the hotel. Also the lady who took us on the ghost tour was very informative and entertaining. Sadly we shared the tour with 4 slightly annoying people. But our guide made up for this with her professionalism. The food was nice and the service was great. The room was ok with a great atmosphere within. Sadly the bed slats need attention as the mattress fell through a couple of times and wasnt comfortable. I would return for a meal or a pint.. Not sure I would spend the night. Which is a shame as the atmosphere in the old place is great. And the staff who I met were a delight to meet."
"Spent one night here and loved the place. OK it’s not an ideal design but when you convert a building several hundred years old what do you expect? We really enjoyed our stay and thought the building was really interesting. In a great location directly opposite the cathedral and easy to explore the rest of St Albans. Had a good freshly cooked breakfast before leaving. Recommended "
"We stayed at The White Hart for one night. It was warm and cosy and very old. Our room had a very comfy bed. We had an evening meal which was really good and breakfast was nice too. The hotel is very convenient for the town centre and the car park was very handy."

"I stay at lots of Premier Inn’s as my employer has a contract with them. Some are good, the odd one is dire, some are excellent. On this occasion I have room only as Corona1984 means they can provide nothing else as the attached pub/restaurant is closed. I am therefore reserving this review to comment on an outstanding member of Staff, Montana, who appears to be running the entire hotel single handed on a Sunday whilst it is fully booked. Nothing is too much trouble for her. She is polite, committed and the sort of person I would recruit if I could. I hope this compliment is fed back to her by management and her efforts recognised."
"Great hotel, friendly staff and spacious rooms. We had a twin room and both beds were comfortable. The room was very clean; a little tired and in need of some small fixes - however - we reported these to the front desk and I'm sure they will look into them (nothing major!). The pub was very helpful. Although we didn't eat there, they provided ice for our drinks - whenever we asked. Ample free parking, over the road from a Tesco and a 10 minute walk to Perivale Underground Station. Right off the A40 for local transport links. A little noisy with the window open but for where you're located, it's expected and understandable."
"My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights. We love the hotel as it is so close for getting us into London for concerts and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious and comfortable and we slept soundly both nights despite being on the ground floor and a stones throw from the A40. We had one dinner and one breakfast at the Myllet pub which was nice. Plenty of on site parking too. We will be back "
