Castle Ashby, Castle Ashby, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom
"It's a beautiful space, i mean really beautiful - what they've managed to achieve is extraordinary and completely unlike anything within 40 miles. It's full of potential, and a very positive addition to the area that deserves to do extremely well. All the right ingredients are there, but they need time to bring them together. Making any judgement on a place that has been open for only 2 weeks and particularly in the current climate may be considered unfair, and there is nothing broken here, it's just some elements need rebalancing in my opinion. There's a difficult balancing act. It needs to be affordable enough to attract regulars, but special enough to justify the huge investment and feel like a destination. I'm sure they will find the right balance soon. The dictionary defines Eyas as a juvenile or untrained falcon. Based on our experience, i'd say that there is still some maturity to be realised. Dinner and drinks came to £250 per couple, which is London prices, and Michelin Starred London prices at that (and more than St Helena or Hibiscus, the nearest local comparisons i can think of). Having been lucky enough to go to quite a lot of good restaurants over the years, i'd say they have a little way to go. It's not bad, in fact i'd say the food is very good - the halibut was absolutely divine, the venison slightly underwhelming (although the ragu was superb!), and the desserts were phenomenal - tarte tatin was every bit as good as the one i had to wait 40 mins for at Gordon Ramsey. Mark is clearly an excellent chef, but the pricing simply doesn't match the quality of the food yet. £60 for 3 courses + sides (£7 each) is punchy. It's also somewhat incongruous. The sides are really pub sides, the wine list is very reasonable but can't decide if it's a pub list or a Michelin list - £14 for a 125ml of LPR on one end and then only £27 for a bottle of Primitivo on the other. Why produce lovely food menus and then give a cheap, laminated wine list? They seem to want the best of both worlds, but don't quite deliver on either. A few other small things rankled, but luckily all of them easily fixed. The service is not there yet - no one offered to take our coats when we came in and then only when i mentioned it, was mine taken, but not our other friends'. We waited an age to be asked for drinks, and then almost immediately food orders were taken and food arrived. If there were 2 sittings i'd understand, but for one 4-hour sitting, i feel they could have spread it out a bit. There was no signage in the hotel, so entirely unclear where to go when we came in, and when we left, there were no lights on in the garden, so we had to use phone torches to navigate back to the carpark. The cocktails were served in completely the wrong glasses - a martini should be served in a martini glass, not a wine glass. The main bar was also far too bright - a few lumens lower would have created a much cosier experience - it felt a little corporate,"
"I've been really looking forward to the reopening of The Falcon at Castle Asbhy for a long time. From the moment I walked in, I was excited to see how beautiful the decor was and how spacious the hotel/restaurant and gardens are . The staff were very attentive and settled us at our table for pre drinks. The Sunday lunch was delicious and very generous size portions. The roast beef was perfectly cooked, with some of the best roasties I've eaten in a restaurant for a long time. The Plum crumble was first class too. It was good value in a beautiful setting and I will definitely be coming back to support this stunning venue which is much needed in this area of Northamptonshire."
"The restaurant is superb. Decor amazing and staff friendly and helpful. We used to come to the Falcon in the old days but the new hotel is something else! The food is top notch and the wine list very reasonably priced. We hope to become regulars again. Northamptonshire needs this top notch restaurant - thank you! "

"I booked b&b here as a stopover on a journey as a good price via Secret Escapes. Location good as able to bypass Kettering to get to it as on edge of town. It has a good size car park. Hotel looked fairly plain on the outside but inside it was well furnished (historic theme) to a high standard with a modern spa & pool area. Room very comfortable & spacious, only criticism was a bit dark which we often find in hotels. Good to see they were taking steps to help environment with water fountain & milk dispensing machine instead of bottled & sachets. Food wise we had a good cooked breakfast. We ate dinner out in a very good Italian restaurant called Vivo in nearby Burton Latimer. Standard of staff service was excellent throughout the hotel. We were so impressed we hope to return later in year for a big family party."
"Stayed at this hotel for a second time while in business. Always a friendly welcome at reception. Junior suite offers a nice level of comfort with small office area, settee & coffee table. Bathrobes and complimentary slippers are a nice touch Spa facilities offer sauna, steam room & 13 metre pool. They also offer a variety of other treatments. I was in the gym, and was invited to join the Spin class, which was followed by a Yoga session when I offered to pay, Tracy (instructor)said it was free as I was a hotel guest. Fantastic. Both dinner and breakfast in the restraunt offer a wide variety of (IMO) of excellent international & locally sourced cuisine. Sara at breakfast was most welcoming and her smile was lovely to see. All in all a great hotel."
"Stayed here with some friends in February for a spa weekend. The staff on reception were great and we were upgraded to suites, which was a lovely surprise. The rooms were beautiful and all the staff were lovely. Enjoyed the food and the spa (although a little busy, but it was a Saturday afternoon). All in all, had a great time and couldn't fault it. Would not hesitate to stay again."

"We stayed for a night at the Bull Hotel last Saturday and from the moment we arrived the service was superb. We were allowed to check-in early as our room was ready and the quirky decor was superb. High quality fixtures and fittings made the room feel very special. If you are looking for privacy when showering/bathing then this could put you off as everything is open plan. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet. We had a 3 course dinner in the hotel which was again good quality and the staff were very chatty and helpful. The breakfast the next morning was plentiful and I liked the fact that you could have unlimited hot drinks and substitutions on the cooked breakfast, something a lot of other hotels charge for. The bar is really nice too with a good selection of ales and spirits. It felt very homely. Given the tough period we are all going through, especially those in the hospitality sector, I thought they did themselves proud. Highly recommend."
"We were in The Stables, a family room with a huge bed, wet room, and a child's bed the other side of some sort of rustic partition. It was a really nice room, a world away from the generic blandness of a chain hotel room. It's a busy pub / restaurant, so expect there to be some noise and bustle, especially at weekends. We slept well though. Breakfast was great, freshly cooked to order, and served till 11am on Sundays. In short we were thoroughly impressed, and I'd return without hesitation."
"Had my wife’s 60th birthday meal hear with all our family. From the minute we walked in we felt relaxed the staff could not be more helpful. The food was excellent there was 10 of us and all clean plates, would recommend the bull . Can’t wait to return thanks to everyone for making it a special night."

"We've stayed here once before and it was great last time too but this stay I felt a review was needed as the receptionist was just wonderful. I didn't catch his name but our stay was 20th Feb and we arrived around 6pm. The receptionist was so warm and welcoming the minute we arrived, told us we had a view of the 'lake' out the back of the hotel which the children would enjoy. We needed a travel cot and there wasn't already one in the room so he went and got us one, he then brought sheets and a thick piece of foam to use as a mattress (as let's face it travel cots must be so uncomfortable!) once the cot was set up in our room, he made sure it was comfortable for our almost 2 year old. Honestly the friendliest and most caring service we have ever received an absolute asset to the Premier Inn name. The hotel it self is lovely, clean and quiet. We will be back. Thank you!"
"Although we live locally, we decided to pop in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. An excellent spread awaited us. The buffet-style cooked breakfast was piping hot and cooked to perfection. There was also an extensive choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cold cuts, pastries, fresh bread, toast and a great selection of cereals. The coffee was freshly percolated and there was also a huge choice of teas. Everything was plentiful and on a “serve yourself” basis. The crowning glory, however, was the friendly welcome we received - and noticed other customers also received - from the extremely professional staff. Special mention must go to Caz, who greeted us with genuine warmth and who clearly delights in ensuring that her guests are given a VIP experience. Highly recommended and we will certainly make breakfast here a regular feature. Well done and thank you."
"Great location staff very helpful rooms of a high standard and very clean beds comfy had a good night s sleep tea and coffee making facilities in room smart tv on wall .Breakfast was good plenty to choose from "

"I was staying at the property for 2 days due to a two-day-course at the beginning of this month. The property itself is very well looked after: Parking and all public areas were very clean. The check in was modest, maybe too modest. I expected a more presentable front desk agent. Moving on to the room, once I got in the room I realised I'm in a Marriott as the room was spotless and the mattress gorgeous. A massive turn off for me was the lack of signal and Wi-Fi connection as I carried all the way from Luton a laptop with me and it turned out to be useless. When I addressed this issue to the front desk, their response was: The system is quite old... A big asset to the hotel is the restaurant, and to be more specific: Michele. I have to say she made my stay, otherwise this review would have been a negative one. Michele was very attentive to my needs and did manage to offer me a personalised service from the moment I showed up in the restaurant to the moment I checked-out. Adrian"
"Amidst all of the issues the world is facing with Covid-19, I was amazed at the level of service offered by Chris Reynolds and the team at Marriott!!!! The uncertainty was met with unfazed support and excellent service all topped off with smiles (and boatloads of cleaning! Every public space being given a good clean every 2hrs) The rooms maybe a little in the old style compared with other Marriotts but the service is up there with the premium choices within their brand!!!! Excellent work guys and cant wait to be back and using you for work stays when in Northampton!!"
"I stayed here for one-night whilst away on business. Check-in was efficient and then I found a well-kept room, which allowed me to get a good night of sleep. The availability of a swimming pool and jacuzzi was welcome, as was the good service and tasty meals that could be found in the restaurant. As the hotel was quiet, breakfast was served to order and was also tasty. I would recommend staying here whilst in the Northampton area."

"We stayed here due to going to Stuntfest at Santa Pod. We booked a family room, 2 adults and 2 Children. I have stayed in many hotels and found the hotel lovely. If I was very picky there is some touching up to be done with decor however the staff are lovely. They leave little things in the room, such as a personalised greeting, sweets and colouring in sheets for the kids. Just a lovely little touch. The room was very comfortable, warm and clean. The hungry horse pub was nice also, good food, good beer and lovely staff. All in all , a great experience and would definitely stay again! Thank you to all the staff"
"On arrival the receptionist Jeremy was so helpful and went the extra mile to help me. I’m So glad I stayed here because the whole reception team Jeremy,Karen,Keeley and Glenn were all so helpful In helping due to the traumatic time in my life and the situation I was in after splitting with my partner after 23 years.. Nothng was to much to ask for and Jeremy made my stay a whole lot better for me."
"You know what you get when you stay at a Premier Inn, clean, functional, consistent and decent breakfast. I am giving the 5stars as the team (especially Jeremy) here really looked after my 90+ years old parents, (needed a place to stay prior to moving into their new bungalow); caring, attentive, some free chocolates. My folks were really delighted! "

"As an IHG member I have stayed at several Holiday Inn hotels all over the world, this in my opinion is one of the best. I stayed for two nights on business, my room was as you would expect from a holiday inn. Clean, comfortable with a decent hot shower. I ate dinner in the hotel on my first night and the food was cooked to an excellent standard. There is also a Miller and Carter immediately over the road which is also an excellent food option. On a personal note I would say the staff at this hotel was excellent and for me pushes my rating to a 5 star. All the way from check - in, to serving dinner and drinks at the bar, they were always very friendly and polite and I was made to feel like a valued guest at all times. I will be staying here again in a few weeks and I look forward to my next visit!"
"After one night in a farmhouse B&B (not my choice) with very little sleep followed by a busy day, I was tired driving and already booked into HIE Kettering. The sight of the hotel was welcoming to my tired eyes, The friendly, happy reception made me smile for the first time that day and the room was very welcoming.for I laid on the bed watching television and woke up early the following morning having slept over 12 hours!!! HIE Breakfast is HIE breakfast but when you haven't eaten properly in the past 24 hours it was a feast!!"
"This is a fairly new hotel on a trading estate on the outskirts of Kettering. It's modern and well-presented. My room was fairly sparsely-decorated; it was generally clean however there was a stain on the duvet cover, and an unpleasant smell in the corridor. The Wi-Fi was unreliable, and when measured via Speedtest showed 8Mbps down and 36Mbps up; this seemed unusual and suggests that connections are throttled. Unfortunately I couldn't use my phone's 4G connection at all as there was absolutely no signal for my network (EE) - I was given a room at the back of the building, overlooking an office block. I had a very early start so didn't get to try the breakfast. I had dinner at the adjacent Miller & Carter, which was fine. The staff were pleasant throughout."

"At best an average hotel & stay. Two visits for two nights each on two consecutive months has confirmed my initial thoughts. Room is spacious, clean & comfortable, shower is nice although prone to flooding the bathroom. Heating system noisy. Second room noise from road quite obvious - windows not great. Reception team on both occasions efficient but not overly friendly. Tried the food/bar last time, fairly lacking in atmosphere, food was OK but expensive for what it was. Breakfast standard fare. Second visit during a renovation was advised if I wanted food they suggest room service, no mention of the replacement bar until I asked. No information on other facilities. So apart from noise room quite nice, rest of the experience I wouldn't rate, not a cheap hotel for the standard I've experienced, if it wasn't convenient for meeting would not stay again."
"quite happy with the hotel nice room nice food and even nicer staff as with most hotels the bar prices are high but we had a good time the only crib was having no large lounge area the location was good but because of the bad weather we did not get chance to look around but if we visit the hotel again hopefully we will get a better chance to look around everyone on our trip seemed to have a good time and we would happily return Popeye"
"My partner and I stayed here a night as we were attending a meeting near by. At first glance the room was nice and clean, but the mattress was filthy (although came with mattress topper). Our air conditioning unit didn’t work, but the person at the front desk was able to come and fix this. We went on to have 2 drinks and a wrap from their bar, which was extortionately priced! We were served by a lady who went on the shout at the kitchen staff that she was ‘going home now’ so didn’t want to bring our food. The pint wasn’t filled to the top which was also disappointing. We both ended up having a poor nights sleep, as the mattress was lumpy and the air conditioning unit was so loud (we couldn’t open the windows). Overall a very poor night stay and wouldn’t recommend.
