19 quai Gustave Toudouze, Camaret-sur-Mer, Brittany, France
"I booked this hotel and dinner deal for one night in August- just to see the Isle de Crozon. The hotel de France is right on the front, overlooking the harbour with a restaurant. The hotel receptionist could not have been more friendly or helpful, but I couldn't say the same for the restaurant staff. The hotel doesn't have a car park so it's a case of parking in the car park up the road and walking back with luggage. The room was fine with a direct view of the harbour. The downside of the view is the late night noise from the street. But the disappointment began at the start of our meal, which I was looking forward to. I wanted to swop one item from one menu to another- for a supplement- but there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing about whether the Manager would allow that. Having eventually sorted the food order, we choose a red Loire wine which are my favourite red wines. When I was asked to taste the bottle I said it wasn't what I would expect. Trying to be accurate I said that it was not corked, but yet didn't taste right. Usually in French restaurants if you say the wine isn't quite right they will taste it themselves and get straight back to you. I was told that if it wasn't corked, it must be that I just didn't like the wine. I said this was not the case and we had just been in the Loire Valley on holiday when I had tasted a few wines and I am familiar with what they should taste like. But the restaurant was determined that they were correct and I had to accept the wine. We did order a second Loire red and this was fine. The food was just OK - I had duck but it was a bit tasteless. I would not return to eat a meal in that restaurant. The breakfast arrangement was largely DIY - I've not been in a French restaurant where you fill the kettle and put it on for your tea. There was one member of staff on duty in the restaurant but as far as I could see he was not involved in service or any of the food. I would not recommend this hotel or its restaurant--- but I would not want the receptionist included in the negative comments- she stood out as giving 5* service."
"Location- in the heart of Camaret-sur-Mer, with the views on the water. Several restaurants within a 3 minute walk in either direction. Plenty of parking right in front of the hotel. Room- newly renovated, nice design, all the amenities you may need. Ours had a lovely view on the water (photo attached). Bathroom- also newly renovated (except for the bathtub), modern and nice. Breakfast/restaurant- we did not eat there, but it seemed well-attended. Overall, we definitely enjoy our stay and would not hesitate to stay there again. "
"Delicious lunch for 4, one of the best lunches I’ve eaten for a long time. Extremely fresh fish, perfectly cooked scallops and very tasty pork dish. Desserts were delicious and beautiful. Great service."

"The room was comfortable with ensuite and a TV. Breakfast buffet good. Secure parking, though it is free on the streets around the hotel. Friendly staff and very central for the port and restaurants. 10 min walk to Eau Libre dive centre. No real negatives. Be aware that they are building a large extension to the hotel. No work in Aug 2018 (holidays), but will start again in Sept. "
"We went there on Thursday late July, Arriving there can be ectic : the area in closed to traffic for Jeudi du Port (free live music). Either arrive before 2pm (and make sure you are parked correctly) or be ready to walk (we parked next to the US naval monument).. (and argue with the security check when approaching the Harbour area - but they will let you through) The hotel is budget so it is very tiny, no A/C luckily the windows is sound proof if you go to bed before the end of the festival (and want to void the noise of the few left after drunks shouting in the street). Breakfast has no interest. Staff is friendly but a bit clueless on the Jeudi du port organization"
"The hotel staff were very helpful in providing a room fan and directions to the few tourist sites in town. There is a restaurant strip within 50m of the hotel and safe street parking. Castle museum is 15 minute walk. "

32 Rue Algesiras, Brest, Brittany, France
"Many positive aspects to this hotel. We were very happy that we selected it over the many we considered. Stayed here on vacation for 3 nights. Found the location to be excellent. Easy walk to just about anywhere you wanted to go- city center, tourist office, train station, port. It’s also only a block or so away from the tram. Restaurants, tabac, shops steps away. Hotel itself is very attractive, bright and airy. We had a corner room on the top floor. There was some street noise but not bothersome. While on the small side, it was roomy enough for 2. Bathroom was nice. Everything was sparkling clean. Bed was very comfortable. Robes & slippers provided. Breakfast buffet included in our rate was excellent featuring many local pastry specialties in addition to eggs, ham, excellent breads, cheese, confiture, fresh & dried fruit, yogurt etc. Desk person Nicolas was very helpful with any request. Found information, helped us map out excursions and made restaurant recommendations. We would stay here again and highly recommend."
"Attending a conference in Brest we booked a ‘comfort double room’ at this hotel because of its convenient location, close to the conference centre. There was no hotel bar and we didn’t have a mini-bar in our room but there were several good restaurants and cafés close by. Our air-conditioned room was on the smallish side, but there was enough room to store our luggage and we had a small balcony. The bedding was good and the room was very quiet. Like so often in hotel rooms, the light over the desk and the beside tables wasn’t optimal for working. In the bathroom, there was a shower over the bad, but we were very happy to find there was no loud ventilation. Note that some amenities, like a Nespresso machine, bathrobes and slippers and complimentary NUXE toiletries, are reserved for the luxury rooms (‘grand comfort). We had NUXE mini soaps, a NUXE soap dispenser (in the shower) and a body lotion dispenser above the sink, which we at first mistook for another soap dispenser. There was a kettle and some instant coffee and Lipton tea Lipton bags. No glasses or cups were provided, only disposable cardboard and plastic cups. Not what you would expect in a four-star hotel."
"We only had one night in Brest but felt fortunate to have found this hotel. Staff were welcoming and helpful offering advice on things to see and organising our evening meal at an excellent local restaurant. Rooms were compact but modern, clean and tastefully designed. Indeed, when considering value for money this would be one of the best hotels that we have stayed in during our vacation. Highly recommended."

2 Rue Yves Collet, Brest, Brittany, France
"First of all, the manager, Delphine, is one of the best, most personable and helpful managers I've ever encountered. I had asked to change rooms because of the walkway outside of our bedroom window. I love to sleep with the window open, but didn't feel comfortable. She was very nice about my request. I asked for restaurant recommendations and she had excellent suggestions. She seemed to be on duty at breakfast as well as when we arrived back after dinner. She is very good at her job. The rooms are modern and the bathroom well lit. Breakfast looked to be very good. We only had the express breakfast, which was coffee/tea, juice and a croissant or baguette for €8, which we found perfect. Finding the breakfast room was a bit difficult as it was out of the way. There is no hotel parking, but a public garage was less than 5 minutes by foot, with entrance only by car or with your ticket."
"We stayed at Mercure Brest for two nights in August 2019. The hotel is located a few minutes walk fr the train station and a 10-minute walk to the castle. Parking is on the street. The staff was really friendly and helpful during our stay. Our privilege room was large and featured a king bed, coffee table for two, a desk, mini bar and plenty of storage. The bathroom was large as well and nicely appointed.I Tripple glazing throughout the room, so no traffic noise. There is no air conditioning and the room can get hot in summer. Windows can be opened but then traffic noise can become an issue. The main issue though is the noise coming from inside the hotel, whether conversations in the corridor or phone calls from the next room. Recommended. "

11 Quai Du Fret, Crozon, Brittany, France
"The Hostellerie de la Mer is a hotel and restaurant in the village of Le Fret, on the west coast of Brittany. For the second year in a row, we chose to have our anniversary meal in this restaurant, and, as with last year’s meal, it was an excellent choice. We arrived early and were immediately shown to a table in the restaurant. It was busy. Most tables were being used and the staff danced around us, bringing water, an assortment of drinks and plates of food to, it seemed to me, everybody but us. My tongue was hanging our for a drink by the time they noticed us, but all was forgiven from then on, because the service was excellent. One server offered us drinks, and we ordered two Kirs. She also brought a bottle of sparkling water which I guzzled befoe the Kirs arrived. Another server took our food order. Someone else brought a tray of amuse-bouches, and some bread rolls. The wine server took our order for wine. She brought it, opened it efficently and left it there to serve some other people. We looked at each other, wondering were we allowed taste it ourselves, but while we wondered, she returned, having, we supposed, let the wine get its breath back. My wife tasted the wine –a St Nicolas de Bourgueil 2016 - and all was good. It should be noted that although we waited ten minutes at the beginning –with our tongues hanging out – we had arrived ten minutes early, so they cannot be blamed for this. The food was excellent. We both had soup to start. My wife’s main course was a pavé of tuna. It was well cooked and there was a delicious mousse of celery with it. I had a duo of pork with a gratin of potato which was a little dry, but apart from that, I could not fault the cooking or the chef. After the dessert course –she had chocolate, I had cheese – the same chef emerged from the kitchen and went from table to table, introducing himself and listening to comments about his work. I have no idea how he responds to negative criticism, but he was full of gallic charm at our table. The bill for this meal, including all drinks, was 95 euro. Our return journey by taxi to our campsite was 90 euro, so total cost was 185 euro for the evening, but since it was our anniversary, and since the meal was so delicious, we were happy to pay. An overnight stay at the hotel would have cost roughly the same as the taxi. But the comfort of the taxi, and the ability to view the scenery without having to concentrate on driving made the taxi very good value. And the meal lives on in my memory, as one of the best."
"Stayed for 6 days in a suite at the front of hotel, with lovely views over the bay and a beautifully designed and appointed bathroom. The highlight was the magnificent restaurant, with its large windows overlooking the bay, serving beautifully presented innovative dishes at reasonable prices. Careful consideration had been given to every aspect of the hotel so that everything was delivered to a high standard of quality."
"All the reviews praise this hotel for the quality of its food. We didn't have the opportunity to eat there so our entire experience is based on the hotel activity only. The room we were in was small and outdated. It smelled of dust and humidity. The carpet has seen better days. Our room was next to the stairs so we heard people coming and going. We were quite disappointed and won't visit again."

"The room is clean and I don't know why it is hot. The surroundings are quiet, just beside the port. It is very convenient to take a boat to Weisang Island. It will take a few minutes to arrive. The seafood at the port is also good."

Quai du Styvel, Camaret-sur-Mer, Brittany, France
"We had one night in this hotel and were very impressed. The staff were so helpful on arrival. We booked a room at the back of the hotel (room 60) which was cheaper, brand new bathroom, quieter and perfect for the night. We had dinner in the hotel which was superb and breakfast was delicious too. I wouldn’t stay in the area too long but perfect for our needs before commencing our coastal walk."
"We had 2 enjoyable nights here. The staff are the biggest asset, all of them are helpful and friendly. The Restaurant for dinner was ok, but the portions were on the small side and the Oysters were not good. Only hot option at breakfast was boiled eggs. Heated outdoor pool, jacuzzi, cleaning, reception and bar staff all very good."
"We booked the hotel room 3 months in advance, with special instructions for champagne and flowers to be in the room upon arrival. We have numerous email confirmations that it was ok to do that. Upon arrival, no champagne, no flowers in our room. We waited for approximately 1hr 30mins, but still no champagne or flowers. We then walked 12mins to nearest super u to purchase champagne. Once we got back to the hotel they then tried to give us champagne and flowers. My wife explained that it wasn't in our room, so we assumed it had been forgotten about. At that point the receptionist ( Katel ) was very argumentative, after a little disagreement she said and I quote " just drink it we wont charge you" and slammed the phone down. 2 mins later she was banging on our door demanding it back, which we did untouched. This then made my wife upset and slightly ruined what was supposed to be a memorable night. ( 10 years married ). The rooms are extremely small, not like the photos on booking.com. The room was dirty, with stains on towels and bed sheets. The curtain pole fell off the wall in the night. The only good thing about the hotel is the location and the spa, swimming pool area. Definitely not worth 150€ per night. I would highly recommend not staying here at any cost. Also to note, we tried to complain but apparently manager was not available and receptionist refused to give her name. ( we found her name on our bill )"

"Spotlessly clean hotel providing high levels of customer service with friendly staff offering help and advice on all aspects of the resort and surrounding regions. There was no expense spared to ensure that immense variety was available at the breakfast buffet. Hotel de la Baie is virtually on the beach with stunning views across the bay. It does not have a car park but free parking is within a few metres. There are a selection of restaurants and Creperies close by for evening meals all reasonably priced. Will definitely return possibly later this year. . ."
"I was travelling by bicycle. The hotel provided a locked garage. I was shown to my second floor room in the annex. Plenty of daylight but no view - as one expects when travelling solo. The staff were friendly and spoke better English than my French. The room (19) was a good size for one person and would have been just about OK for 2. There is a kitchen / breakfast room available for guests in the annex. It looked fine but o did not use it. The optional breakfast was large and the produce fresh. "
"the guide sais that is the most anciant hotel there , but now is alwais renovated , we had a room in front of the sea and early in the morning you can see the dawn!very romantic ! the rooms are differet nice and bed confortable brekfast . you can decide for a complet or light at different price"

380 rue Pierre Rivoalon,Technopôle, Brest, Brittany, France
"March is perhaps not the best time to visit, when the mad-March gales are blowing with driving rain, but this somewhat remote setting, on a peninsula about 30 minutes outside Brest centre, tho not so far from Plouzane village, is where I found myself, arriving Sunday evening. Unfortunately there is no food available on Sunday evenings - only a sandwich dispenser machine. Only one staff member was available at reception but was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice, large and clean with good free WiFi, TV and tea making facilities. Self-service breakfast is very basic but adequate. The setting with its sea views would be great during summer months, especially for families. However, there are no conveniently close restaurants, and it is an unattractive half hour hike into the adjacent town of Plouzane. Visitors really need a car here. Visitors without transport have to rely on phoning for a taxi"
"A very remote location only suitable if there on business locally. Nearest restaurant over 9km away. Only food available is out of a machine though breakfast is fine and the room was fine. It however should not be considered a hotel it is a B&B no hotel facilities. If visiting Brest this is not a suitable for a holiday. In short stay at a proper hotel having to drive so far to get food is just not good enough. I read reviews before booking and found them misleading."
"Hotel is very dated and a bit dirty, unfortunately no other hotels available at the moment I was there.... Food was not bad but very limited in choice. Service also wasn't as you expect from a hotel that wasn't cheap! Never again for me."
