What a fantastic hotel, everything was spot on including the reception desk staff, the large deluxe room, the restaurant staff and the amazing breakfast. This hotel has its own car park over the road, which we were able to use before our allocated booking in time. The staff were very attentive and nothing was a problem. The location was 5min walk from the whale bone arch and a nice 15min walk I to town. We will definitely be visiting again

One of the most pleasant hotel rooms I've ever stayed in -- just the right size (comfy while having plenty of space), very comfortable bed, very clean, large desk to which I could write. Has a very traditional English seaside hotel feel, which is such a welcome change from the corporate blandness of most hotels these days. Very close to the beach and a pleasant walk (only about 15 minutes) to the town centre. I'd strongly recommend it.

The house on the photo is both a pub and a hotel. It is translated as ”White Horse and Lion Beast” and we stay here. When I left the store, I took this booklet at the bar, knowing that it was the place where Captain Cook recruited sailors more than 200 years ago. A few years ago, I went to Mount Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand. Now I fly over half of the earth to the hometown of the explorer who first landed in New Zealand. Unintentionally, history is connected at the foot.

On arrival we found our marked car park slot and then found the public areas of the hotel were very pleasant, I think all fairly recently refurbished. Our room overlooked the harbour and the abbey which was the best view one could ask for. The room had apparently been given a makeover in the Shearings era but they hadn't touched the bathroom which was clean but a bit decrepit. The only only issue with the bedroom was that the door could be opened with a loyalty card (I proved it). To renovate the rooms but not the bathrooms must have been an accountant's decision! To be fair the current management company are working hard with upgrades; we saw the evidence of this as we moved around the hotel. The hotel is beautifully situated but be prepared for some steep hills to get about. We noticed that the tourist bus made a stop at the hotel and found this the best way to get across to the abbey. Plus you get an interesting commentary about Whitby on the way across town. Breakfast was good, a couple of evenings we ate in the bar which was interesting as the local folk musicians had a jam session on the Friday evening! Yes, we would stay here again as long as we could choose a fully renovated room with harbour/abbey view.

I booked 3 rooms for my family and two friends’ for vacation on July 25. One of the rooms was terrible as the room windows were all fixed. No fresh air could come it. I even could not breathe. My eyes were itchy, possibly allergic to the poor air condition. The room was much more like a store room or a prison. If I was not wrong, the room number was 229. I contacted the reception staff for room exchange. She was so rude and refused me. Saying that she would refund me the money for another hotel. I came here together with our friends for vacation and we paid about £150 for each rooms. My friends rooms were all fine except mine, Finally another female staff helped me changed to an small old room facing inward!!! I did not find my money worth for that room but I had no choice at that moment. At least the new room was with windows, it was such a terrible experience for me staying here! I won’t recommend anyone one to consider this hotel, as unfair service was experienced.
