It’s pretty sad when you get caught on the highway in a traffic jam for over 6 hours then you finally get to hotel to checkin, go to your room to find out that the keycards don’t work so you go back to front desk to get 2 more keycards to get in your room to find out that they don’t work either. Then the person at front desk brings up more keycards to try before you finally get into your room after 30 to 45 mins. You get into room to find out the bathroom has hair on the toilet and in the shower. So really it was a terrible experience cause after finally getting in my room I got maybe 4 to 5 hours sleep before I had to checkout by 11am. So no I wouldn’t recommend this place as a good place to relax and stay

There is free parking, a free swimming pool, suitable for bringing children, but due to the epidemic we did not go to the swimming pool and gym, breakfast in the hotel should be ok, but during the epidemic it is relatively simple, but the price is a bit more expensive than other hotels

We always book a room at the Valhalla Inn on our way through Thunder Bay, and usually look forward to staying. Unfortunately, this trip was a disappointment and will likely be our last. We stayed in a king studio drive up. Soon after arriving and settling in we found that a light in the suite wasn't working, and the sliding door from the suite to the parking lot was broken (both the latch and the charlie bar), apparently the result of a recent break-and-enter. We returned to the front desk and were offered a different room. The new room reeked of cigarette smoke and so we returned to the front desk again and indicated we could stay in the original room if someone would fix the door. A very plesant maintenance worker was in and out of the room a few times and ultimately secured the door with a broom stick. When we approached the front desk to request compensation for the poor room condition and disruption to our evening we were informed no compensation was possible as we had booked our trip with Expedia. Furthermore, the front desk employee was curt and unapologetic for the inconvenience. When we travel we opt to pay a little more to feel safe, comfortable and welcome. The Valhalla failed to meet these expectations and next time through the city we plan to explore the Best Western Plus Norwester.

I fondly remember the iconic Valhalla Inn in Toronto, it featured wonderful design with a nordic flair and great restaurant. Unfortunately the hotel is gone replaced by a generic condo. With my memory of the old Valhalla i had high expectations for the Thunder Bay hotel. It too had a Nordic look. The lobby was basic but a sign did indicate they were doing a refresh. The room was large and very clean with a wood engineered floor and nice furniture. Well lit bathroom but with a tub not shower stall. The towels were clearly washed too many times and the linen rough. Very basic toiletries were provided. Surprising the room rate did not include daily housekeeping. We were told It was every three days or on request. There was no mention of this when we checked in. I had to call reception to get some clean towels. There was an indoor poor which we did not try. Reception told me there is new hotel management, it appears they are trying to cut costs at the expense of basic hotel service.

Stayed here 3 nights for work. The location of this property was great and overall it’s a specious and up to date. Checkin was average. As last time I stayed here had no mention of status, I called on the way and asked if they had any suites available. They said yes and gave me a price. When I checked in, there was no mention of upgrade. When I asked, they said they were sold out… checkin was fast and I was in my way. The studio room was nice but lots of cleanliness issues; the ac unit was filthy. Looked like someone bled on it. The windows also filthy. When the sun hit them it was disgusting. The carpets full of dirt and lint.. looked like a while since it had a solid vacuum. She shower grout had lots of black mold and the bathroom wallpaper also dirty. One thing I did appreciate was the opening windows and the friendliness of the breakfast staff. This could be an excellent property if they made an effort to recognize status and to focus on cleanliness. The front sidewalk to the right of the door( when coming out ) was absolutely covered in cigarettes butts. This was the entire week so certainly not something that happened in between cleaning. Hopefully this can improve as I do prefer Marriott for my status. Jeff

Stayed while husband had surgery. The perfect place to stay especially when isolating pre-surgery. The staff is absolutely wonderful, especially Colin (I think that's his name) at front desk. Nice to have a little kitchenette, they also have cards and board games to borrow. The rooms are very clean and beds extremely comfy. Definitely recommend!!

The hotel is quite satisfactory, the rooms are small and the facilities are okay. The parking lot is spacious and free. There are not many supermarkets and places to eat around. The price/performance ratio is so-so.

During the epidemic, there were no slippers or shower caps in the room.

We drove from Toronto to Manitoba and back, stayed in several hotels along the way, and this one was our favourite. Rooms are clean and spacious and everything is done right. Our stay was relaxing and comfortable. And the customer service was exceptional: when we first arrived, due to a mix-up (caused by booking.com), the gentleman at the front desk couldn't find our reservation. But even though they were fully booked, he not only found a (better!) room for us but also gave us a significant discount ”for the trouble” (which turned out not to be their fault anyway). He still honoured that even after he eventually found our original reservation in their system.

A clean comfortable hotel in a nice neighborhood with a good breakfast area. Rooms and beds are good. It's a very good hotel experience with a good breakfast area. Breakast was simple but good. Hotel service was good and friendly. Staying here again is not a hard decision.

One night stay on a Monday night. Room was nice enough, breakfast in the third floor breakfast room was good - seems to mostly the usual pre-made food but the ”quiche” and some nice sourdough bread felt a little bit nicer than at some other hotels. Location seems just okay to me - the things we wanted to do were a bit more ”downtown” but I suppose that depends on what you are doing while you are in town. Close to the airport, several restaurant options and two Metro grocery stores. Seemed like one of the better Thunder Bay options we had available given the corporate rate I got.

This was the second time I stayed at this great hotel. I stayed in the king suite which was a lovely well laid out room with a separate bedroom. The bathroom had a lovely bathtub ( I suffer from knee problems) and came with nice big towels not often seen in hotels nowadays. The microwave and fridge were welcome additions, as were the two TVs -- one in the bedroom as well.

We tried many locations for a room for the night when we came into Thunder Bay on a road trip. After 5 hotels said they were full we called the Nor’ Western. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the first phone call to find out if they had a room and they did. Lana in the restaurant was very friendly and so easy to talk to. We are so happy we ended up here for the night before going to Winnipeg. The patio area is beautiful. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We would gladly stay here again.

Nice accommodations with a view. I call this place little Jasper because it reminds me of the small views from Jasper Alberta. Situated outside of Thunder Bay makes it unaccessible to some but worth the short drive for individuals who value nature at there door step. Service was great at the front counter and the restaurant was very decent. In my travelled experiences this is of good value.

Not the usual quality for a Wyndham hotel. Very disappointed. Building is an old motel. Entrance and reception area were redecorated quite nicely though. Room was small, shower curtain was filthy, one of the shampoo canisters in the shower stall was missing, was only given one set of towels for two people. There was something on the wall covered in a facecloth, did not dare look underneath the face cloth, peep hole in door was replaced with cardboard, carpet old and stained, dated decor, phone in room did not work, no fridge in room, no breakfast, no elevator. Restaurant in hotel was not open and desk staff was not very helpful in finding a restaurant near by. When we reserved the room we specified that we were looking for a hotel with restaurant inside the hotel they did not mention that the restaurant would be closed. Drunk young man in front foyer of hotel swearing loudly into cell phone for quite some time but hotel staff was not trying to deal with him at all. Would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.
