"I chose this hotel because of its proximity to family we were visiting. It is clean and comfortable, except for the heating/AC. The outside temperatures were in the mid-50s. The unit could not be set for heating or cooling but only to the desired temperature. When it was on, the air blowing was freezing. When it was off, the room got uncomfortably warm. Still, the room was very quiet and otherwise comfortable and well furnished. We were especially impressed by the staff. The housekeeper spoke to us in a very friendly tone each time we encountered her in the hall. The receptionist spoke to us each time we passed the desk. The woman coordinating the breakfast spoke to all as she arrived and the one time we passed her in the hall, she greeted us in a very friendly manner. She was attentive about replenishing the food and kept the serving area very clean. The food was typical "free hot breakfast" but always fresh and quickly replenished. The make-your-own waffles were better than most such waffles at other hotels."
"We just returned from a 3-night stay. The hotel was clean and I felt very safe. There was a problem with the fire alarm and we had to evacuate the hotel for several minutes the first morning of our stay and no one seemed to know how to turn off the alarm. The breakfast due to the Covid issue is very poor. They give you a small piece of paper with 2 choices and it is in a paper bag at the desk. If you don't fill in the paper everyday you don't get anything. The choices are very poor. A grab and go set up would be ideal. The coffee was horrible. We were told we could get coffee by the front desk but we aren't sure the person who was supposed to make it knew that. There is no housekeeping which was fine as I didn't want anyone in our room anyway. I was disappointed that not all of the front desk clerks wore masks and neither did all of the housekeepers we saw in the hallways. Evening shift always had them on but the day shift did not. We would probably stay again when we return to the area."
"First just let me start off by saying the location is perfect. Then to top it off my boyfriend and I were greeted by the most polite, professional front desk agent. Her name is Chrissy, she made the check in process super easy and quick. It felt good to see that there was someone who actually enjoyed their job. All because of Chrissy we decided to stay another night and then the hotel manager Kelly was just as great. It’s a perfect team. The cleanliness of the hotel/rooms made it even better. Worth the money will DEFINITELY visit again. Oh yeah and shoutout to Karissa she was awesome too!! Lol"

"Following an extremely painful travel experience from the U.K. to the USA on Thursday May 5, I arrived at The Marriott Waterfront in Norfolk (7 hours late and exhausted). There was initially an issues with my room, but once I explained the situation/dilemma to Miss Caroline on the front desk , she immediately took control of the situation and had me moved to a super quiet room with amazing views over the waterfront. Working within the events industry is all about the end experience and my experience of The Marriott Waterfront has been excellent. Nothing is too much for every single member of the hotel staff. Very well done and thank you."
"I had a fantastic stay here at the Marriott Waterside. The staff were so friendly and they helped us to start our day with a good laugh and a smile. We were visiting for my graduation and I have no idea how the hotel found out, but the hotel staff slipped a personalized handwritten congrats card under my door (not a pre-printed generic card). This stay could not have been any better and thank you for helping us to have a wonderful graduation weekend."
"The Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel is one of the best I have never been. The service is perfect, and all the staff are really helpful, friendly and very professional. I particularly enjoyed my discussion with Caroline, an exceptional receptionist. This hotel is also very well located, quiet and remarkable clean."

"We were in Room 540 - handicap accessible. Closet SPace was a little over 18 inches wide and almost impossible to hang anything in due to the "safe." We arrived Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 3:00 pm and checked in at the front desk. I was told my room was not ready yet, but they would have it ready shortly. We went to the bar and waited until 6:00 pm and then returned to the desk to find out the room was actually ready. We had considered bringing our two mini dachshunds along on the trip and were informed that the hotel was very pet friendly. We could have both of them in our room and had to just pay a nonrefundable pet fee. It was only $300 per pet. Yes, that was $600 to bring our dogs, our furry kids along. We border them with our veterinarian for 1/2 that price and had additional services included. We were supposed to get a 10% discount at the bar and restaurant since we were part of ANZIO Group and here for a reunion. Getting the discount was a struggle at best and usually did not happen as wait staff either could not find a "manager" to approve it or lied about even trying. Mimi in the restaurant during the morning buffet was the exception who made it happen one time. She knows her job! Housekeeping was a nightmare, to say the least. The hotel [policy is that we are not treated as Guests but as customers. If we want/need anything like new towels, room made up, or any other services, we must request and schedule that service, it is not provided! For instance, the liquids in the bathroom: Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Soap are in large theft-proof containers Mounted to the shower/bath wall. The Body Wash was empty and I tried to get more. I was told that the hotel was out of that soap and the manager needed to order more, but we were supplied ONE small bottle for the two of us to share instead (the size of an old hotel shampoo bottle). We saw no housekeepers for 3 days. I was able to get clean towels by asking for them, but I had to go get them. On Saturday night we had a banquet for about 100 people in our group. It was held in one of the Ballrooms on the first floor. In addition to our group, there were people dining in the restaurant and at the bar. There was ONE working restroom on the floor next to the gym. ALL of the other restrooms on the MAIN FLOOR of the hotel were BROKEN and not available for use. Negatives: Pet Fee, Waiting for room over 3 hours past check-in time, Lack of group discount, Housekeeping, Poor sanitation Checked out at 8:30 am Sunday, May 8, 2022. This was a ship's reunion 30 years after Commissioning!"
"Great location. Clean property with very nice restaurant and walking distance to Waterside. Great views of the Elizabeth River. Ryan Williams at the front desk was very helpful with the check in process and he had great recommendations. Cool bar J Bates Ambassador "
"While the location is wonderful this hotel has fallen victim to the Covid standard. Basically they provide little to no service, no cleaning, no room service, can’t even get the room adequately stocked with coffee for a room price markup of 20-30%. Plus you have to pay $13/day for on site parking in which they park their shuttles so there’s even less parking lot parking. Initially I thought it was nice to find water and tea in the lobby but soon found the tea hadn’t been changed and was old and sour. Also the breakfast offered at the restaurant is outrageously expensive. "

"I feel so blessed, with Brian’s assistance I was able to not stress on where we would stay during this trying time. Starting with check in the staff was excellent and courteous. They went the extra mile just because which is a plus.. The location was only 7 minutes to the hospital which was a major plus. The room was very comfortable and clean. Once my grandbaby fully recovers I’ll be coming back just to get away. Again I would like to thank Brian and the rest of the staff for everything."
"From time of check-in to check-out the staff was very professional, friendly, and attentive. The parking attendants were always available during my two day stay. The check-in staff was helpful with directions and what was available in the hotel. The Bristro workers offered service with a smile. My request for additional towels and cups was answered promptly! Again Excellent service!!!"
"While the room itself was nothing spectacular, the bed was definitely the most comfortable and there was adequate space to work. But above all else, the staff here was amazing, helpful and courteous, from the valet to the front desk to the folks in the cafe. Would definitely recommend and stay here again."

"First and foremost, this hotel is ON the Old Dominion University campus. It is a perfect place to stay for any visit to ODU. Easily walkable distances to the whole campus. And nicely located 1/2 block from the main restaurant street. But what puts it over the top is the room layout. This is not your normal double bed and a bathroom layout. Each room/suite has a nice sitting room area with a sofa, desk, and cabinet area with refrigerator and microwave. Our room also had two (2!) closets for hanging clothes. The staff were also all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was average, but staff kept it clean and looking great. It's not a 5-star hotel, but for what we paid (quite reasonable, even with the extra $8 for parking), it exceeded my expectations and provided the foundation for a very nice visit to ODU! I strongly recommend it. Note: I had a room on the south side of the building, not on Hampton Blvd. No noise on that side."
"I am presently in the hotel. I arrived around 5:00 pm. At the check-in counter, there was a supervisor training a trainee. The person being waited on had a complex check-in issue -- she wanted to pay by check for three rooms. While the supervisor was teaching the trainee how to deal with this, my wife and I had to wait in line for 15 minutes. The trainee was having difficulty with this check-in; the supervisor was using this check-in as a teaching lesson. This is not how to treat hotel guests such as us waiting to check in -- that we had to wait until the trainee learned how to deal with an unusual, complex check-in. There were two terminals at the desk. I asked if couldn't my wife and I be checked in on the other terminal and was told no -- the trainee is in training. Clearly, the supervisor could have asked the complex guest to wait while she would check my wife and me in, but that was not done. We were made to wait until the trainee completed the complex check-in. Or the supervisor could have dealt with the complex check-in herself, and not prolonged it by teaching the trainee. To add insult to injury, when it was our turn, the trainee asked me what brought us to Norfolk. This is an impertinent inquiry into the personal affairs of a guest. I refused to answer the question. Finally, the supervisor explained how to connect to the Wi-Fi very quickly and I had to ask her to repeat it slowly. The one bedroom suite I am in has a lot of space and a full-sized refrigerator."
"Staff is great, the breakfast is very good and has lots of options for a buffet. ALWAYS STRAWBERRIES!!! Love that... There are quite a few good restaurants in walking distance from this hotel, and it is across from the chartway center, making access there quite easy.... and did I say that the staff is great!??!!"
