"Good bed and breakfast right in the heart of sandwich, nice and clean have stayed here a couple of times and always been pleased with it and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for homely feel,"
"I have been booking several rooms twice a year at the Fleur de Lis for about 4 years now, initially with the previous managers and for the last 3 since Richard took over. It's an ancient building and the room shapes and sizes are bizarre but that's what you get. In room 3 in particular it is extremely difficult to use the toilet because the shower cubicle is VERY close. Part of the charm, I suppose. This year I booked 3 rooms for family for 2 nights. By far the worst experience yet. 1) On arrival the booking system seemed to be chaotic and the very young staff couldn't find my details. Eventually that was sorted. 2) We discovered that there was to be live music that night, directly under the bedrooms. We should have been warned. In truth, this situation hadn't occurred before, either because there wasn't music before or because we came on different nights. The music finished at about 11.10 but the street noise went on much longer. The room was clean and everything seemed to work. The sewage smell that others have complained about wasn't noticeable to my nose. Running the sink hot tap for an age gave warm water. Running the shower was not that good. The breakfasts have gone way downhill. In an age where coffee is now a religion it was shocking to find individual portions of instant coffee and a hot water urn. For tea drinkers there were teabags but no teapots. The menu looked good but the reality was worse. The Full English breakfast was comprehensive but if you didn't want every item then you got, in effect, the Full English with everything else removed. In my case I just wanted beans on toast and I got a small scoop of beans on a slice of toast, with an extra slice of toast. Others in my party had similarly empty plates. Everything generated plastic waste, butter, jam, drinks. No effort at all. Worst of all, it took 40 minutes to arrive. Others that came in after us were served before us. Last of all, I was charged £75 when I booked direct. I should have booked on this website and got the same rooms for £65. Any comments Richard?"
"Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Yes, the lunch was good value but the service was awful, not just for us but several other tables threatening to leave if they weren't attended to soon. We ordered our desserts along with the main and sat waiting for over an hour after we had finished the main. No one cleared the tables, any tables even though the waitresses were serving orders and returning with empty hands. Couldn't they have taken some of the dirty plates and glasses with them? It seems like common sense. I have to say being left with all the dirty crocks and glasses filling the table spoilt the experience and then one of the desserts was wrong!"
