"If you have a child, you can book a double bed (double bed), the hotel is very convenient to find, from Nottingham for about 30 minutes, parking is very convenient. The hotel has a beautiful view, is very historical, and the facilities are very good and very hygienic. Local-oriented, first-class service, definitely worth staying again"

"I booked to stay in the hotel for a seminar being held here. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and is predominantly a Golf Club and Hotel. I arrived extremely late on the first night but had telephoned the hotel receptionist, Abbey, to let her know I was going to be late. Abbey left a key out for me and I was able to go straight to my room and settle in. The bedroom was large, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. I had breakfast the following morning which was perfect and then attended the seminar. I reported on the first morning that I had a problem with the television in my room - there was no signal and it wouldn't tune in. The receptionist arranged for maintenance to resolve the issue but they were unable to so I was offered another room, equally as nice as the original one, where the television worked. I went down for dinner and again I was not disappointed - I ordered the steak which was cooked exactly as I had asked for it to be cooked. I cannot fault the staff at all. Every single person I met with was polite, courteous, friendly, and extremely helpful - they couldn't do enough for me. I have even been able to arrange to check out later on my second day with no problems. Thank you to all the staff for making my stay enjoyable and comfortable and I hope that I get the opportunity to stay here again."
"Myself and my newly wedded wife had our wedding here and the whole experience has been fantastic. Tom, Laura and all of the staff involved have been amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Couldn’t of had a better venue. Our initial wedding entertainment fell ill and had to cancel last minute, Tom selflessly arranged for another group to attend and delivered the best customer service that I’ve ever witnessed. From start to finish we have had the best time and it’s given us so many amazing memories. Thank you so much for everything. We would 100% recommend Horsley Lodge for all aspects of events."
"The champagne breakfast was incredible. There was lots to choose from on the menu and the food was incredible. The staff were could not do enough for us bringing us more of anything we asked for. We didn't feel rushed - we ended up staying for about 4 hours. Great location and extremely great value for money. We'll definitely be back soon."

"Well done Jack Wagg for hosting an exceptional 2 days on the Bakewell Experience in December. After checking in at the hotel it started with a top quality evening meal in the Dovecoat Restaurant. An overnight stay in the Hotel with an equaly good breakfast the following morning. Jack Wagg then hosted a full day on tour in Bakewell....we even made our own Bakewell Puddings! Well done Morley Hayes and Jack Wagg for a great 2 days. My wife and I along with our family also had a wonderfull night at the New Years Eve Black Tie evening in the Pavilion. A fantastic night, great food, great entertainment and fireworks. We will be going again next year, Morley Hayes knows what it's clients want and provides the best of experiences across the many factions of it's business. Ian Shepperson."
"Stayed at Morley Hayes Golf Club for one of their "Three nights Mini Break". This included Afternoon Tea, Three-course Evening Meal on two of the evenings, a great Cooked Breakfast each morning, a bottle of wine and chocolates in your room as well as very well-appointed room which overlooked the golf course. Everything was excellent, the room was quite large and spotlessly clean. Nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly staff and they would all go the extra mile to ensure you were satisfied and happy. This was a great few days away and I will certainly visit this venue again in the near future."
"Thank you so much for a perfect celebration for Mum and Dad today. All the family and friends attending were very well looked after; the lunch was delicious and every care was taken to ensure that the day was wonderful. The room looks lovely with all the Christmas decorations across the beams and walls. There were many compliments given by our guests - for some of them a first visit. Thank you to Wendy, Jane, Shona and Hilary, not forgetting the chefs and 'back room' staff. We are all very appreciative. "

"Well I don't really know what to say. I found this little gem by accident and what a find. On arriving we were met with wonderful friendly staff. We had a beautiful room in wonderful settings even though storm Dennis was raising havoc outside, inside was lovely. We had booked for a valentine's dinner and wow the food was amazing, the service was second to none. Great nights sleep and then a most wonderful breakfast and at this point I have to mention owen the waiter who was excellent, calm under pressure and so very friendly. We stayed for two nights and didn't want to leave. Thank you to all at the priest house and I must mention Lauren, reception and TV technician. Great job guys x"
"I stayed at the Priest House Hotel for 1 night on a buisness trip. After several intensive storms the River Trent had burst its banks and covered the car park. However the hotel itself and cottages were all dry. From arrival to departure all the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. My only regret is that I only stayed for one night. After my evening meal I the probably had the best Cheesecake dessert I have ever had. For the first time ever I photographed a plate of food as it was truly impressive to look at, and even better to eat. I hope to return again and ignore the main meal options and just work through the desserts. I think it snowed / sleeted during the night but my room warm and comfortable. "
" Hi, I have to write this, I parked my car at your hotel, stayed for one night because of flying out early morning, well thank god, I gave you my car keys or I would of lost it,, I telephoned whilst on holiday, worried about storm Dennis, because of your very close proximity to the river trent, and god bless you all, you moved my car and everyone elses cars to higher ground, on our return the river had burst its banks and flooded everywhere,, shame such a lovely hotel and setting, brilliant staff to,, many thanks DB"

"Down (from Aberdeen) these parts for first time. Hogmanay wedding tomorrow. We were told to visit Melbourne. We did and found this pub/restaurant. Superb meal. Staff rushed ragged as 2 off sick but still friendly service. Great food. Best rice pudding ever. Highly recommend."
"Visited this lovely pub during our short stay in Melbourne. Found this beautifully decorated and friendly pub just a short walk from where we were staying. Superb food and the host Sophie was excellent and very knowledge and helpful. Would definitely recommend"
"The food was all very good and our waitress was lovely, but after she left at 10 unfortunately the service went downhill, the staff were too busy in private conversations or gazing at the computer screen and then to add insult to injury they started stacking chairs on tables, it was like sitting in a forest surrounded by chair legs finishing our tea and coffee. There were plenty of people still in the bar but we were the only table left occupied in the restaurant by then, but their attitude did not make us feel like staying for another drink."

"Had two nights there with meals included. Evening meals done to a high standard. Booked an executive room and ended up in a Suite at no extra cost. Staff very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is in a process of improvement as the drawing room had just been refurbished, no doubt other rooms will follow soon. I look forward to rebooking a room in the future and would recommend the establishment to all. "
"We stayed on a one night dinner, bed and breakfast Secret Escapes deal. We were allocated room 32 which was a very spacious room in the main hotel. We did note that there are rooms in a courtyard setting. A warm welcome in a hotel which is under going a transformation although we only heard noise on the day of leaving. The only let down was the main evening meal where chips served with the beef were under cooked and inedible. However the breakfast was excellent. We would visit again."
"This was our second visit and, yes, the hotel is tired in places and needs some money spending on it, but the actual building and grounds are lovely. Our room in the main building was warm with a very comfy bed. All the staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was excellent, especially the sticky toffee pudding! No doubt we will be back!"

"This was my first stay at this Hotel and overall it really was very nice and i would stay here again. The staff all around was warm, friendly, helpful. The hotel is small which i like, with very comfortable beds and linens. Service was great all around. But The Internet Is so slow. It is a more quiet property, so if you are looking for a vibey/party type of hotel, I would suggest staying elsewhere."
" My husband and I got married at the hotel 9 years ago and we thought it would be nice to arrange a special weekend back at the hotel. In the exchange with my husband it was arranged that the hotel would provide something special for our arrival. This was not done which was the first disappointment. It was however, a lovely touch to be in the bridal suite which we stayed in but when we got in to the room it was absolutely freezing. We put the AC on to hear but it didn’t warm up much on the downstairs floor. The room itself was a letdown as it looks like no maintenance has been done on it in the 9 years since we were here last. I have enclosed the pictures but here is the list of issues; -Horrid damp issues on one of the walls which was really unsightly and looked like rust was on the wall -Missing knob on the luggage cupboard. How hard is it to fix little details like this -The phone doesn’t work so we had to walk down to reception to get the WiFi code -The WiFi code wasn’t worth using and I got more from my phone than the hotel wifi -The bath taps were full of limescale -The bath taps didn’t work and we couldn’t fill the bath -One of the bath lights was broken so it was a good job we couldn’t fill the bath -There was no remote for the bath tv -The window in the bathroom was broken and hanging on one hinge -The sink tap is fitted I correctly and when tou turn to hot it’s cold and vice verse -The sink doesn’t drain when the plug is in on open mode so you have to take the plug out -The shower head is rusty with limescale -The grout is black in places -The only positive were the staff were really friendly and the dinner and breakfast was lovely My other comments are there are a number of maintenance issues such as cracks around the hotel and missing paving tiles outside. The display cabinet with toiletries including feminine products really lowers the ambience of the hotel and so do the black and white photocopied menus in reception and at dinner. This was a massive disappointment for us given it was supposed to be a special weekend. We paid £195 for a very substandard experience. I emailed the hotel about it and they said they would investigate and get back to me. I waited for a response and sent a chaser. Till now I have no response back and no apology or recognition of the problems which is terrible customer service. We will not be going back there again which is a shame given we had such a lovely wedding there previously!!! "
"The hotel's website bills it as a boutique hotel with a Michelin-listed restaurant. It was a complete let down. Our room seemed to have been refurbished relatively recently and was reasonably well-equipped, except that the wardrobe was very small and there were no drawers for clothes at all, nor was there a suitcase stand. It showed some signs of neglect, e.g. a non-functioning power point, and was rather soulless - no pictures on the walls at all. Any Michelin listing for the restaurant is long gone. It is in a large, rather stark room. The food was what you would expect in a very ordinary pub. There was no wine list. The friendly, but clearly untrained, waitress told us what wines they had by grape variety and the pinot grigio (I think the only white she listed) was more or less tasteless - better than being unpleasant and at least it was cheap. At breakfast the tea was from a dispenser and tasted of nothing at all. Cooked breakfast was served on cold plates. The front steps lack some paving stones. The only saving grace was the friendliness of the staff: the reception staff were particularly good. They said that they would take up the incorrect information about the Michelin restaurant on the website: it seemed that this has not been true for some long time."

"We went for lunch on a Tuesday, the place was empty, only one other couple came whilst we were there but didn't stay long. We were given a menu but the prices were very expensive for lunchtime but then the lunchtime board was pointed out to us. We decided on roast pork dinner at £7.95. It didn't take long to come - should have told us something!! Didn't like the fact that the gravy had been poured all over and not in a separate jug and it was only luke warm like the rest of the dinner. Nothing tasty about it at all - it tasted like Sunday lunch leftovers warmed up but I may be wrong! With a couple of cokes the bill was nearly £20. Most lunches we have come to less than £15 for the two of us. On a positive note the place was very clean but don't think we will go again."
"Well what a fantastic time we are visiting friends in Swadlincote they took us out to one of there local restaurants and it was here what a fabulous meal meet by the landlord who couldn't of been any friendlier the food was fabulous and one totally outstanding member of staff charly what a fabulous personality she was amazing made our night well done young lady you will go a long way you are a totally credit to the business thank you all for a fantastic time looking forward to seeing you all again 😀 "
"We absolutely love it here, the food is amazing here lovely and hot and great value. £50 for sunday dinner and puddings and drinks for a family of four is amazing and no washing up. Bev and Doug are so friendly, chatty and make you feel at home. The pub is spotlessly clean. We return time and time again and will do for many years to come. Xx "
