The size of the room is adequate, with two inside and out on the top floor. It is a hotel similar to the one common in foreign countries, with a restaurant downstairs and guest rooms upstairs. The scale is not large, so it is estimated that there are seven or eight rooms. The hotel reached the city wall, which was less than ten minutes. The hotel has a special parking lot, and the service attitude of the owner is also very good. Breakfast is in the form of an English-style single order, and the quality and service are OK. Anyway, the English breakfast is almost the same.

About 15 minutes from the train station, the location is a bit far, but the room is very good, downstairs is the restaurant, you can have dinner, the reception attitude is very good, you can consider staying here next time

Very good hotel, very British, especially the lobby feels very much, it should be the hotel of the past detached house change, the room facilities are not new, but the use is very convenient, very good
- Yong
The service is good, the breakfast is cooked to order, the bus goes to the city center for five minutes, and the walk is twenty. Overall good. The hotel is like an old house villa, you can experience it.

I accidentally booked for the wrong hotel accidently last minute so it would’ve been nice if they allowed for me to cancel it, but since they didn’t allow for a cancellation fee, it would’ve meant that I’d lose my money for the entire booking, therefore I made sure I attended the night

Reviews From Real Travelers
A lovely hotel, very clean, good quality furniture, though a little dated. Rooms rather small but nicely decorated. Bed comfy but a bit high, good quality bedding. No lift, which was a bit of a problem as my mobility is limited, and the first floor bedrooms were up 2 small flights of stairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful, They kindly changed our first room as it had a bath, which I couldn't get in to, for a room with a walk in shower. The lounge and bar area was pleasant and comfortable, although a little cool. We didn't eat there as the restaurant was fully booked, so can't comment on food or dining area. It's out of the town centre but only took about 15 minutes to walk, probably less for a younger, fitter person. All in all a very nice hotel.

Everything is perfectly cute. My friend and I love the design of the room, and we wish to try other rooms as well! We had a relaxed and happy trip with this hotel~

Reviews From Real Travelers
In May 2022, I spent 3 days in York as a treat for my birthday. This trip was one of many solo-travels that I had planned for the year and when planning this trip and looking on Booking.com I found this hotel to be the best of the bunch on money and closeness to the town. The hotel itself was part of a pub/restaurant but my room was separate from the building in a sense as it was outside and up the stairs. The pub was incredible, the atmosphere and theme was just what I was looking for and I absolutely loved the history behind the building. The room, just as expected, fit well with the theme with vintage inspired decor and furniture, a beautiful and home-away-from-home feel to it. The room was clean, comfortable and just what I wanted for my first trip to York and only second trip travelling solo. The hotel was only a few minutes walk to the town centre and The Shambles, which was just what I wanted and it was so great that during a busy day that I could nip back to my room to drop off bags and/or freshen up before heading back out. It really is a brilliant location for anyone visiting York. The food, which I only had on one occasion as there was so much choice in York, was incredible and highly recommend even if you aren't staying, to pop in for dinner. You will not be disappointed at all! All around fantastic hotel, with a great location, food, price and friendly and helpful staff. Cannot wait to stay again, thank you

Remember remember the fifth of November. Boy, you can’t forget it here. This is supposed to be the actual house the famed terrorist was born in, although a couple of tour guides told us he was actually born in an adjoining house just in back. Whatever. It’s full Fawkes here for history buffs; our room was the Thomas Lynch room, named after one of the conspirators. The location could not be better, truly in the shadow of the spire of York Minster. Less than a minute to the Minster, five to the Shambles. We were glad we paid for the wonderful breakfast (a la carte and buffet both) to be included in the room, and the “Full Yorkshire” would feed two people. Dinner in the hotel’s restaurant was also lovely. (There are barrels stacked at one end, as if filled with gunpowder.) It can be a bit noisy before closing time at the downstairs pub, but after that it's very quiet. The staff was young and enthusiastically helpful.

We were booked at 14:30 on Christmas day and were we all really looking forward. Our expectations were more than met, the decor and ambiance are really inviting and atmospheric and perfect for a Christmas dinner in York. We were greeted at the door and seated straight to our table, the staff from the off were extremely pleasant and very friendly. We had canapes of KFP ( Kentucky fried partridge ), pigs in blankets and mackerel puree. Then we all opted for a classic Christmas turkey dinner which was cooked to perfection. Then there was the dessert course. Well by this time we had to ask for our petite fours to be boxed up because we were done. It was flawless from start to finish, we weren't rushed and couldn't have been ,made to feel more welcome! If your thinking of booking Christmas 2024 you wont be disappointed if they keep up these high standards. Thank you to The Fat Badger York from my family to yours.

We came as a family last Christmas and based on that experience returned. Food this year was as good but be prepared to pay more than your average gastro pub. The children’s menu was rather limited but then we wouldn’t recommend for younger families. Initially, we had trouble booking (it’s very popular). As we knew they were busy we were aware that we needed to be away from the table for another group. Sadly, the puddings took a long time to come which delayed us and left us feeling like we were being rushed out of the pub at the end of the meal. There is a lovely atmosphere, the snug is great for groups wanting to be away from it all and drinks selection had something for everyone.

There is no free parking. The parking fee is 10 pounds a day. The room is not large and clean. You can reach the center of York within a few minutes walk. Because there is no breakfast when booking, I choose to go to McDonald's in the city for breakfast. Yes, it ’s delicious, it ’s a little different from the domestic ones, you can try it, because most of the hotel's breakfast is almost the same, so it ’s good to eat other occasionally

I forgot the appearance of the hotel, the overall feeling is very good, the service staff is quite enthusiastic, the store experience is very good, that is, when we went to the luggage in the morning, we told us to live on the second floor. In the afternoon, we changed to the first floor, hope is Let’s think more, because it’s just that the 3rd and 4th people are nationals.

The century-old hotel has been renovated, and overall it's OK. The room provided was also very small. It was basically just up the stairs next to the hotel lobby and you were on the first floor. The bathroom was relatively large and the bath water was very small. It was difficult for girls to wash and dry their hair because they had so much hair. The Christmas atmosphere is very good, the bar is good, and there is York local beer. Hotel guests park for 7 pounds per day. They must inform the front desk and prepay the parking fee when checking in, and then park in the parking space, otherwise there will be a 100 pound fine! The location of the hotel is very good. It is about 2 kilometers away from the internet celebrity check-in point in the center of York Town. It takes 49 minutes to walk. It is very cheap and convenient to call Uber! Ordering takeout is also very convenient. There is a gas station and a 24-hour convenience store diagonally opposite the hotel. Two steps outside the hotel is the holiday inn, york university and tesco supermarket, which is very convenient. Looking at the map, it is also very close to an outlet. All in all, it's far from the center of town but very convenient! Lotus caramel biscuits will be prepared in the room. You can go to the front desk to get disposable slippers and toothbrushes, which are not available in the room. Possibility of late check-out at 1 o'clock. The room seemed to have two air conditioners but no remote control. It suddenly turned on and off more than a dozen times a night, which was quite scary, but after all, it was a century-old hotel. Marriott’s Platinum Ambassador Card does not include any benefits such as breakfast. Overall, staying overnight is okay after all, the price is cheap!

Hotel a reasonable walk from city centre. Room pleasant and clean. Building works did not affect stay. Swimming pool busy in evening with no apparent time restriction for children.

Reviews From Real Travelers
My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were drawn in by reputation and quality of the other principal hotels across the country. I was shocked to read so many bad reviews and almost booked somewhere else as a result. It seems most of the intolerant previous residents had issues with noise, smells. food, rooms, service. We didn’t experience any of that and can only conclude that most of the reviews are either planted as false information by competitors or result of warm summer, outdoor bar or questionable views / aspect of room. We stayed in a king on 3rd floor, room 300. If you’re worried about anything just book that one! Tasteful clean decor and great views to the minster. Notable comments for James who went above and beyond to sort out a small issue with audio description hardcoded into the TV, sorted smoothly and efficiently. Great location, atmosphere and setting. We will be back with our dog next time. Don’t believe everything you read from dissolutioned guests who want a megaphone to comment on perceived issues.

We had a lovey spacious room and the beds were comfy. Unfortunately there were road works just below our room, so a bit noisy at times! Great location for sight - seeing buses which stop just outside. The staff in the bar were helpful and efficient. Drinks expensive (unless you are there during Happy Hour) - the main courses in the restaurant are overpriced for the quality - average really, and the service a bit lack - lustre. Beautiful communal spaces downstairs. I would stay again, but might eat elsewhere.
