Day 1 | Morning

Dujiangyan Irrigation System

Opening Hours: December 1st - March 1st of the following year, 8:30-17:30, March 2nd - November 30th 8:30-18:00

Ticket Price: 80 RMB

Recommended Length of Stay: 3-5 Hours

Location: Park Road, Dujiangyan City, Chengdu

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is located along the main branch of the Lancang River, west of Dujiangyan City. It was constructed in the Qin dynasty around 256 BC by Li Bing, Prefecture Chief of Shu County, and his son. It is one of the few ancient Chinese water conservancy projects that has remained preserved and intact. The project consists of three primary works—Yuzui Diverting Embankment, the Feishayan Spillway, and the Baopingkou Water Inlet, and two secondary works which include the Baizhangdi (the thousand-feet dam) and Renzidi (the y-shaped dam). They divide the Yongjiang River into an outer and an inner branch, the former of which is used to divert floods and the latter for irrigation. This has allowed the Western Sichuan plateau to become "the land of abundance" as we now know it.

Yvette***: This is to highlight that the nearest train station is no longer the Du Jiang Yan station, they have newly open a new station which is just right at door step - Li Dui Gong Yuan station (离堆公园站). Du Jiang Yan has 3 significant sections - upper, mid and bottom, we took a small bus from bottom to upper stream, and walk back to the bottom stream. Unlike the usual concrete path, we chose to walk from the mountain side, which allows us to see the entire stream of river - this is really amazing, but your leg will be sore by then, a lot of tracking indeed, but it really worth it! I personally like the color of the water, mixed of blue and green, despite the misty weather, I still managed to catch a nice photo of the entire Du Jiang Yan. Don’t forget to have a walk at the old street when you leave the place, we pop by a small eating place and they do serve a very nice dishes (农家小炒).

ニーハオ: I was introduced on TV when I wanted to go, so I enjoyed it. I took the subway, high railway and route bus from Chengdu city and arrived at the tourist spot. From Chengdu City, it will be used for half a day in round trip. The access itself is firm. I think the wisdom of the old is really amazing, and if you have room, you can stay nearby and you can relax with Mt. Aoki.

Day 1 | Afternoon

When time permits after visiting Dujiangyan Irrigation System, don’t forget pay a visit to Qingcheng Mountain.

Qingcheng Mountain

Opening Hours: Open from 03/01-11/30,8:00am-5:00pm;Open from 01/01-02/28,8:00am-7:30pm;Open from 12/01-12/31,8:00am-5:30pm

Ticket Price: 88 RMB

Recommended Length of Stay: 3-5 Hours

Location: Qingcheng Mountain Scenic Spot, southwest of Dujiangyan City, Chengdu

Qingcheng Mountain is dubbed as the "most quiet and secluded place in the world". It is the birthplace of Taoism and there are many Taoist temples to explore there. Qingcheng Mountain is divided into two parts: Qingcheng Front Mountain and Qingcheng Back Mountain. They require separate tickets. The Front Mountain is a place where Taoist culture and cultural relics are concentrated. Visitors talking about “Qingcheng Mountain” are often referring to the front mountain; Qingcheng Back Mountain is known for its natural scenery making it a good place for vacation and leisure.

Reviews from Real Guests:

Trip.com User: I recommend you to go to Chengdu when traveling. It takes about 40-60 minutes to take a train from Xipu Station outside Chengdu City to Chengsong Mountain, and it was not very uncomfortable even if you couldn't book a seat. Foreigners can take their passports when buying and boarding train tickets. And if you go out to the left of Qingcheng Mountain Station, there is a bus stop, and if you take the bus No. 101 (2 yuan) to Qingcheng Mountain, it takes about 10 minutes to get to the entrance. From the entrance to the Sanmen again, take the electric cart bus (10 yuan) and move, and if you get off the cart and go mountains, you can take the cable car to the mountain 2/3 location. After you get off the cable car, you climb to the old town at the top, and then you walk down, and it takes about two to two and a half hours. There are many various Taoist temples on the way down, so if you wear comfortable shoes and walk down the road, you can have good memories and photos. I left Xipu at 9 a.m. and I went back to Qingcheng Mountain and arrived at Xipu Station again at 16 o'clock.

Trip.com User: It feels very relaxed to hike in Qingcheng mountain. The air is extremely fresh and there are a lot of trees surrounding the whole place. As you walk up the mountains to visit temples, there are stops along the way for visitors to take a rest and buy food and drinks at the stalls. The path to go up and down the mountain is not so easy to walk because the steps are built of stones and they are not of even height. I suggest visitors to cater a full day to visit Qingcheng mountain and go as early as possible when the tour bus and cable car start operation.
