Movenpick Hotel Basel

Basel|2.05km from city center
Our 3 day trip in Basel concludes on more positives than nagging issues. First the good part: Staff such as Steven, Catia and Michael are worth mentioning as they did their best to accommodate our requests. In general the front office staff seems rather well trained and courteous. Secondly the location of this hotel is ideal. With access to train, tram and bus stations within a couple 100 metres is very convenient. Sound isolation and sleep quality are pretty decent. Rooms are modern and seem to ve renovated recently. Ample parking available in the basement. The best part is the entrance of the hotel is within the private space and does not hinder public traffic. So parking the vehicle to offload the luggage is practical. I feel one of the best designs of this hotel is to be able to manoeuvre your car and allow guests to be able to safely disembark. Breakfast is decent and very clean setup. No signs of hygiene issues. And now to the few nagging issues: First the over engineering of elevators and their use can ve confusing at first. Staff should take time to read any messages and requests done through third party booking platforms. Although requests were addressed promptly but could have avoided delays. Room temperature settings difficult to comprehend for kelvins to Celsius conversions. Also the room was quite warm and slightly unpleasant in the evening. Breakfast should consider some infant friendly options too. Value for money - a miss for sure. Overall I would say it was quite a pleasant experience but the management needs to step up on making it a value proposition.

Basel Youth Hostel

Basel Youth Hostel

Vorstädte Basel|1.52km from city center
I booked a night in a single room with Lavabo - the price is currently at 95,- CHF + 4,- courtage. I am not in a hotel because I wanted to save money and Switzerland is much more expensive than Germany. Benefits of youth hostels: The booking includes a Basel card that allows you to use all the public service free of charge. Furthermore, you pay only 50% of the entry at museums etc. Another advantage: the location of the youth heritage very central, but still quiet (only with regard to the city event), in the old town very close to the Rhine. You can walk to the center. The neighborhood is idyllic. I had a room with windows on the opposite side of the Rhine, there cooled it in spite of a hot summer day in the night nicely from another advantage: breakfast is quite good, it is already ready from 6:00, and the coffee/cappucino from the machine is of high quality. However, one must pay for a cappucino outside the breakfast hours CHF 4.00. A room without shower/WC with Lavabo is easy because there are enough toilets and single showers available on the floor. And a good shower bathtub was to be borrowed for 3,- CHF. The staff of the youth hostels were very friendly. Most other guests do not, often my greeting was not answered on the hall. Now to the disadvantages that weigh more seriously for my needs than the benefits: first of all the relative brightness. Relatively because the construction substance appears normal in this respect, but the behaviour of other guests is ignorant. At the time of my stay, many families with small children were present, some of which let their children cry unremittingly (without pain or dispute) - the children cry partly for fun at crying, in the rooms, but also, Because it is so beautiful in the concrete halls, and well because the parents thought that all could be left in a youth hostel. I didn't say anything to these families because I know from experience that it doesn't bring anything and because I just stayed a night. But I have spoken to the staff, but nothing has been done (that is probably also useless for them). I myself visited Basel to look at a lot of art, and I am a guy who needs a guest room as a place of withdrawal even daily to get back. The impressions in this interesting city are overwhelming. This youth hostel is not suitable for this. I could only sleep with earstops, and that's only uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the room can only be obtained from 15:00 - I would have wished to be able to rest a little before and make me fresh after the long arrival of a hot day (but probably it would have been too loud to rest). In the room there are no hooks or similar to hang towels or clothes. Also in the toilets
Steinenschanze Stadthotel

Steinenschanze Stadthotel

Vorstädte Basel|1.79km from city center
The Steinenschanze is a good choice for visiting Basel. The hotel is clean. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is good. The location is good, but not directly in the middle of the tourist fray of the old city. And the rooms have air conditioning, which was definitely needed as the temperatures reached 87 F (30.5 C). A few additional notes: Breakfast: You can get the all-you-can-eat buffer for 25 Euros or the ”small breakfast” for 9 Euros. I found the small breakfast to be sufficient for me. It consists of two scrambled eggs, bread and croissants, whole fruit, coffee or tea, and juice. That was enough for me. The buffet adds quiche, cheese, cold cuts, grilled vegetables, cut-up fresh fruit, and much more. Getting there: The hotel is near the main train station for Swiss destinations (SBB Bahnhof). Nonetheless, I strongly advise against walking to the hotel unless you know the route and you have limited baggage. The way is perfectly safe. That's not the issue. But the roads are confusing, and one can easily get lost. Also, your options are walking on the sidewalk along a 4-lane expressway or crossing the expressway, walking down through a park into the valley, and then going back up a hill with a 70-steps staircase. There is a better solution: take the bus. The no. 30 bus departs from the station and stops right outside the hotel Stop: Scheinenschanze. If you are coming from Germany, you will arrive at the Badischer Bahnhof. In fact, the Badischer Bahnhof and the SBB Bahnhof are the two termini for the no. 30 bus. So just take the bus. You don't even need a ticket if you are taking the us directly to your hotel, as you will receive a Basel Card public transportation pass upon check-in, which will retroactively cover your bus trip.

Gaia Hotel Basel - the Sustainable 4 Star Hotel

I don't know why this hotel is so high. Apart from the advantage of the train station, there is no room, the bathroom is OK, but the bathroom has no shelf for towels. The breakfast is similar to other hotels. It is not used by Chinese people. Foreign breakfast, hot water bottle, air conditioning, bus card, fruit in the lobby, McDonald's next to it, Chinese TV channel, the biggest drawback is that the room is small and the boxes are not open.

I was overjoyed that the transportation was so convenient that it couldn't be more convenient. I was right next to the SBB train station and got a free transportation card. The room was very large and clean. In Europe, the room was really oversized and the double sink was very convenient!

Business trip, the room is not bad, just opposite the exhibition hall, the train station to the hotel 20 minutes drive. The executive lounge room is set, the executive lounge is in the room opposite the reception desk, there are not many choices 😂

Great rooms and good possibility as a bridge in the search of a apartment, was there for two months. But one must be aware that this is a party place and the rooms in the EC get the noise full off and the staff doesn't care (only at a party on a Saturday, after 22:00, a room was offered in the upper floors and that After concerts in the EC took place throughout the afternoon, the other weekends were to look at you. Therefore, a room is trying to get in the upper floors, then there may be a window to open.

After almost 50 years, the hotel Basilik was sold in the 3rd generation. A hotel full of stories and anecdotes will be remembered. As a KV student, I was allowed to graduate and enter the world hotel shop at Cavegn family and my way went through the Basilisk. Enjoy the closure as a employees is the most beautiful goodbye. After 24 years of hotel shop, it is now time to take a new way. Thank you for the beautiful time.

We had a two day stay at this hotel on the way to Paris. This is a charming hotel with a historic facade but modern and renovated interior. We had the Queen room and whilst only 20 sq mtrs felt very spacious. Location is prefect for those with luggage and arriving by train as the station is across the road. We had a lovely view of the station and no noise could be heard with the windows closed. We often opened the windows to soak up the atmosphere of the trams and buskers and the hustle and bustle of the station. The old town is not far away and easily walkable but the hotel provides free public transport cards which makes it even easier to visit the city and surrounds. Some lovely old buildings and a marketplace to visit. We did not have breakfast at this hotel but there is a large supermarket next door where drinks, food, bakery items can be purchased. The bar/ restaurant downstairs has inside and outside seating with the outside area great for watching people and the station happenings. If we return this would be our hotel of choice. Switzerland is a very expensive country so expect to pay a lot more for drink and food than you do at home. A block away is Markthalle an upmarket food court with cuisines from all over the world. We ate here both nights as the food was so good.
