The Coffee House Hotel

The hotel and listing needs serious attention. Stayed for 3 nights. The cafe is no longer part of hotel nor is it's opening hours good for early breakfast or late dining. Though Union St has great food nearby. So the outside photo is very misleading. The hotel beds are fairly comfortable but the large rooms are poorly furnished. Only 1 armchair and a very uncomfortable 'desk' chair yet 2nd hand furniture shops are nearby. Room lighting is poor esp for reading in bed at night. Issues. There is mold in bathroom around seaĺant & wooden chair needs gluing as comes apart. Shower extractor fan needs cleaning & does not work hence notice saying shut bathroom door to avoid setting off fire alarm. All these issues are apparently known but nothing seems to be done to fix. The fire alarm system has a battery fault. Access is shared with other premises so anyone knowing key code can enter and pass up to rooms. There are no rooms on ground floor but only up 2 large flights of stairs or 3 if top floor. No lift. No on site staff. The view from room 1 is of brick wall and air conditioning units in a very poor condition. It's is well located just off central Union St. But I would never return even though manager has offered a free cake and coffee in the cafe below.

It is centally located though not easy to access with car or taxi as lane is very narrow. The door code didn't work then there was an issue with collecting the room key inside and finally we were given the wrong room. There is no-one on site though you can phone them for assistance. Confusingly the cafe is part of the building but a different enterprise and won't do breakfasts before 9am. It's not cheap either.

Great instructions, easy access, clean space and relaxing atmosphere.

Very comfortable rooms for the four of us. We definitely enjoyed the area with restaurants nearby. The cafe downstairs has a super breakfast. Parking was nearby at the park so an easy stroll away.

I would have loved to write a great review for this hotel but unfortunately there were a few negatives. The text message to get into the building was ok and we were even able to get in earlier than check in time of 2.30pm. The room seemed nice, a bit compact, bathroom nice, and all clean apart from the 2 long black hairs we found in bed. The only chair in the room was a wooden chair which was so uncomfortable and the TV was so high on the wall even when watching from bed caused neck ache. The walls are quite thin so can hear people in next room. Worst thing was the communication with owners - check in fine but check out they said they would store our luggage - couldn't get through to any of them until around 11am (check out time) and were told to leave our luggage in an open cuboard which did not lock! Unfortunately because of these issues don't think we would stay again which is a shame as location great :-(
