Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center

Aurora|6.4km from Denver TRACON
We traveled and stayed at Gaylord Rockies since my husband had business meetings there. The hotel, like all Gaylords, is large with a central atrium. They are in an expansion phase, planning to add 1,000 additional rooms and more restaurants. We were upgraded to a suite but I can still speak to the comfort of the bed and the bathroom amenities. When traveling, I frequently have issues with the mattress being too firm. I am a side sleeper and if the mattress is hard, I get hip and shoulder pain by the third night. That did not happen. But I should have asked for a pillow with more loft since the provided pillows basically become flat. The shower had adequate pressure. For dining, there is a Marketplace that has grab and go breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries, bottled sodas, water, wine and beer and, of course, Starbucks coffee. All the restaurants – Sports bar, Monte Jade (Asian, limited sushi) and Vista Montagne (Italian) were all really good and for Gaylord, reasonably priced. We did not dine in Old Hickory Steakhouse, a Gaylord staple, since the price is exorbitant. A big draw for this hotel is the indoor and outdoor pools which are both heated and open year round. Even with the outdoor temp at 48 degrees there were people floating around the lazy river! Beware the weekends when locals book rooms for kids birthday parties. There is no shuttle available from the airport (at most a 15 minute ride) but the shuttle does take you to the nearby light rail station where you can get to downtown Denver or the airport. We paid $6 for a regional day pass so it was cheaper than Uber. This is the fourth Gaylord I have stayed in. The layout is more similar to Gaylord National near DC rather than Gaylord Palms (Orlando) or Gaylord Texas (Dallas area.) Like Texas and Orlando, you cannot walk to offsite restaurants which may be a consideration if you are not on a group trip nor have a car. Also, Gaylord Rockies is on the east side of Denver between the city and the airport. Driving to Rocky Mountain National Park takes roughly two (2) hours. You can get to Red Rocks Amphitheater, Dinosaur Ridge, Garden of the Gods, (see separate reviews), Boulder, Colorado Springs, etc in 1 to 1 ½ hours. Yes, it is a nice property but depending on why you are in the Denver area, may not be the right place for you.

Fairfield Inn & Suites Denver Northeast/Brighton

My husband and I stayed here for a night as a stopover before heading up to the mountains. We hadn’t made a reservation and chose the Fairfield primarily because we were able to park our pick-up truck and trailer there. The manageress who was at the reception desk was really pleasant, helpful and professional and she and the other staff that work here clearly take pride in this modern and sleek hotel. Our room (a suite) was spacious, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location is good and the area was quiet and felt very safe. This was our first visit to a Fairfield property and we were very impressed. We would definitely stay here again.

Very clean hotel and wi-fi was great compared to other places. Pool was under renovation, but fitness room was nice. Had room next door with loud tv, but front staff handled it right away. Breakfast still limited, but was still good.

Got there pretty late after a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater to see Heilung. The two ladies working the counter were really friendly and accommodating. Total sweethearts. No surprise deposit was needed either. This shitty little hotel was a godsend and I would absolutely recommend. Friendly staff, affordable prices, surprisingly decent room!

I stayed 3 night in room 318. It had a great view of the mountains. The heater squealed when it shut down, the bathroom door squeaked, and the sink drained so slowly that there was standing water in it for most the day. All of those things are fixable and we told the front desk about them when we checked out. The water pressure is very low...as in budget a good 30 mins if you need to wash hair that is longer than your chin. The walls aren't super thin but we were definitely aware of the couple in 316 having sex, and when their alarm went off. It is in a safe, convenient location.
