Reviews of Hotels in Al Bairat

5/537 Reviews
To be honest, I'm a little surprised that the reviews of this hotel are mostly five stars. I'm not the type of person to complain about petty things and I do try and give people the benefit of the doubt, but this hotel is just lacking. Don't get me wrong - this hotel is not awful or anything, but it is very mediocre and is in desperate need of some small-scale renovation at the least. I know the tourism industry was hit hard by Covid, but there are a few small things that could be improved. But first, the positives. The hotel and room were clean. The staff were friendly. The manager was also very helpful in giving us advice on how to organise our time in Luxor. The breakfast was fine (nothing special but good enough - yoghurt, bread, cream cheese and tomatoes, and optional omelette). The view from our room of the Nile and our own private balcony was absolutely fantastic. Overall, a pleasant enough experience. Now, the not-so positives... 1. From the moment we arrived in our room, both lightbulbs (2) in our bathroom were broken. We told the staff, they fixed one of them but it broke again after a few minutes of use - so we told them again, they fixed it temporarily and it broke yet again. This meant that for the entirety of our trip we had no light in the bathroom (which itself had no windows). I don't think a working lightbulb is too much to ask for... 2. The rooms could do with a little bit of an update. Like I said, I know times have been tough for the tourism and hotel industry recently, but these rooms seriously could do with just a bit of love and care. One of our drawers couldn't be opened, and the other one had a hole in it (as seen in the picture). The bathroom floor also looked like it had seen many years of usage and could do with some deep cleaning... the heating function of our AC unit also didn't work. 3. There was also no housemaid/daily room cleaning service - perhaps you had to ask if you wanted your room cleaned (which probably explains why there were no signs to hang on the door handle). Overall, our experience at El Mesala was fine. No major complaints to be made. But, it was disappointing. I feel like they need to pay a little bit of attention to mastering the basics, as well as devoting some money to small-scale renovation. If this improved, we would come back again - but, in its current form, we will not be coming back anytime soon...
