1849 Backpackers at the London

This hotel seriously needs to clean the bird droppings on the windows. We paid $316 for 2 nights and ended up staying in what felt like a bird cage. The smell was absolutely awful, the room was stuffy, and it was genuinely concerning from a health perspective. I’ve attached photos: the buildup didn’t happen overnight, this has clearly been left for a long time. It’s unacceptable. The reception was just as disappointing. We had to speak to five different staff members, wait around 3 hours, and all they did in the end was clean a small section of the window. No accountability, no urgency. A complete waste of time and a very frustrating experience.

Staff at times were unhelpful and they have a pin key entry system for the doors for the room that didn’t allow me access to my room for 5 hours. Also I booked 7 nights originally and then I requested to move 2 nights to a later date that was agreed by one of the staff. Unfortunately when I went to change this when I went to rebook the staff member was hungover and couldn’t work out how to amend the booking so I paid again. Faculties were good and directly in the centre of town which is great.

A great stay in a fantastic location. Very walkable to public transport and shops

I found the environment to be extremely uncomfortable and unsuitable . The room had a strong, unpleasant odor, and the only fan provided was not functioning.the lack of a working fan made the room unbearable. When I approached the reception to address the issue, I was initially unable to find anyone available. When I finally spoke to a staff member, they informed me that there were no spare fans available, which was both disappointing and unacceptable Additionally, the overall hygiene and condition of the room were extremely poor. The washroom and toilet were in a terrible state, emitting a foul smell that made the stay even more unpleasant.

Great location at the heart of Albany, I drove so everywhere accessible, next door is a French patisserie, beautiful food and place. Good public parking, limited private parking (so dense I must give praise to those who parked). Despite the older infrastructure, it is well maintained and clean. I like how they ask for feedback. Good free pancake breakfast, coffee and first 2 slices free. Receptionist is live in, made it an easy check in at my late arrival.

Room was like a revolving door of people at all hours of the night through the morning! Guests are more long term for their visas and the condition of the rooms/ use reflects that. Bedlinen was not clean and smelt like damp wet dog. Was meant to stay 3 nights but could only manage one! When checking out the office was locked and empty during maned hours. Stayed a couple of times before, standards have dropped.

Reception is very friendly and helpful. Overall the facilities available are very good and the location is good too.
