The hotel facilities, especially the indoor pool and spa was exceptional. The recent full refurbishment of this hotel is excellent. The outdoor terrace is fantastic for drinks. A truly luxurious experience, supported by wonderfully friendly staff. Use the hotel's electric bicycles to go for a cycles along the river. Breakfast was wonderful, too! Only criticism: Its hard to know where to go when you arrive. Some information before arrival would have been helpful. (You need to pull up to the big wooden gate and press the intercom)

This hotel is a true gem nestled in a charming and picturesque town. Impeccably restored with an eye for elegance and detail. The staff were exceptionally warm, attentive, and welcoming, making our stay all the more enjoyable. The gardens are stunning and serene, offering a perfect place to unwind, while the terrace provides breathtaking views of the river. The spa facilities and pool are equally impressive, adding a touch of luxury to the experience. We created unforgettable memories here as a family—an experience we’ll treasure for years to come.

We were blown away with the renovations, service, and amenities available at this Hotel. Incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive staff, in a beautifully scenic and peaceful location. Aside from the 5-star accommodations, we loved the facilities, including the complimentary steam room/sauna, spa, and pool, as well as the e-bikes available to explore the town and river. 10/10 recommend to all!

Fabulous hotel in a gorgeous building and setting in the lovely town of Amarante. This hotel was excellent in every way and we enjoyed our beautiful room, the delicious breakfasts and lunch, drinks in the bar and out on the terrace as well as the lovely grounds around the pool area. It was too cool to swim but we really enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the sun with a lovely bottle of wine. Attentive and very helpful staff. Highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Because of a tight itinerary, we could stay here only one night, which is not enough time to appreciate this property. It occupies a strategic, central site in the town. Located in front of the Ponte de Sao Goncalo with the Sao Goncalo Church on the other side of the bridge, its yellow facade and walls are eye-catching. We were in room 202, a large executive room with huge bed, walk in closet, safe, slippers, bathrobes, sofa, and bidet. Every aspect oozed five-star. The 7:30 breakfast was to die for. Bravo. This hotel really lived up to its reputation. It’s elegant, wonderful staff, superb rooms (you must book a river view room), and you MUST EAT AT LARGO DO PALCO. Its a Michelin star restaurant, and It’s one of the main reasons we stayed there. We were astounded at the chefs creativity and the incredible flavors he was able to create with each course. AMAZING!!!! Go there for even one day like we did. You won’t be disappointed!!!

We had a delightful stay at this well appointed Relais Chateau hotel and we’re glad to get a table at their Michelin restaurant. The staff were all professional and hospitable. The only downside is departing back to the real world.

Casa da Calcada is one of the great hotels of the world. I do not exaggerate. We have been all over the world, North to South, East to West, in many years of traveling. Everything about the Casa da Calcada is outstanding. The location, the staff, the rooms, the restaurants. The staff were extraordinarily helpful. There are two restaurants, one with a Michelin star. Both are outstanding, simply magnificent. Our room overlooked the river and the city. Excellent view. It was very quiet. Everything worked perfectly, even the air conditioning dealing with 100+ F. All the staff were very helpful. They made tour recommendations for us which we followed and were very pleased with. They made a lunch reservation for us in a nearby restaurant which was fine. If we can go to one hotel again, this is it.
