Vita Nova

A fun experience staying on Vita Nova in the heart of Amsterdam. It’s a boat and it moves from one mooring dock to another every few days. That was one of the highlights of our stay, as they had to dismantle the fly bridge and lower the large Bimini in order to pass under the bridges while sailing along with not much more than 5cm to spare. But it was the seaman Raphael with his energy and friendliness and how he kept order and took care of everything that really deserves 5 stars. It is a little like rough camping, showers are tiny with nowhere to hang your clothes out of the shower water. Nice selection of goodies for breakfast, nice large saloon and they allowed us to store our suitcases before and after having checked out. I would definitely come again.

We were given room 4. From other reviews, it seems we may have been given this room due to our british nationality, or maybe that's just coincidental. It was one of the worst places I've stayed in. It became so bad it was funny. The smell of diesel when you stay in this room is overpowering, gives you a headache and sticks to your clothes. The floor moves about and gives you motion sickness even though the boat is still. I've given two stars as the bedding looked clean and the room had been cleaned. Overall, this was 'memorable' 🤣

Let's say their advertising is "generous" at best. Very basic accommodation with 2 bunks crammed into a tiny space at 90 degrees. 2 rustic toilets, one with a shower which is nothing more than a slightly larger toilet with a nozzle on the wall and a hole in the floor. There's a comfy enough sitting area which also serves a decent continental breakfast ib the morning. There's also an open deck on top for smoking. It's a budget hostel, so serves as a roof over your head for a night or two without breaking the bank. But you absolutely get what you pay for.
