We stayed at De L’Europe for a full week and overall had a very positive experience. The location is excellent, the hotel itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere feels refined and classic. It’s absolutely one of the better places to stay in Amsterdam.
Service, for the most part, was very good — however, housekeeping was inconsistent, which stood out at this level. Multiple times during our stay, housekeeping entered the room after I had already taken off my clothes, despite the room being occupied. Additionally, housekeeping did not proactively replenish the minibar and required requests instead, which felt surprising for a five-star property.
On one occasion, the “Please make up my rooms” sign was left up for over six hours, yet service did not follow up later in the day when we were already IN the room, housekeeping arrived while my fiancé was on an important business call. These are small details, but they matter at this price point and could be improved with better communication and timing.
The spa is pleasant but basic — clean and relaxing, though it would benefit greatly from the addition of a sauna and steam room, which feels like a missed opportunity for a luxury hotel.
That said, the D Suite is the standout choice and highly recommended. It’s spacious (especially for Amsterdam), comfortable, and perfectly suited for business-working couples who need both function and comfort during their stay.
Overall, De L’Europe is a great hotel with a prime location and strong potential. With more consistency in housekeeping and a few spa upgrades, it would easily meet — and exceed — five-star expectations. We would absolutely consider staying again.
