I stayed for a week and at least half of the nights were noisy and significantly affected my sleep. The walls are very thin and the doors have large gaps around them - resulting in the feeling that you are in very shared accommodation. You can hear people on the stairs and in the next rooms very clearly. The first night, I was kept awake until 2am by guests hanging around outside the front of the hotel. The windows do not block any street noise, so I asked them to keep it down and they dispersed. The next night, I was woken by a surprisingly noisy mouse running around the room. I downloaded a high frequency noise app for my phone and left it on. After advising the staff about the mouse, I was moved to a "quieter" room at the back. This was an improvement and got rid of the street noise, but the thin walls meant that I had to listen to my neighbour's snoring for the whole night. Mid-week was quieter, but when the weekend came around it was party time. On the Friday there was a room under me and a room across the corridor listening to music and talking loudly until 2am, when I got up and went downstairs to find any staff. When he finally answered, through a locked door, they asked people to keep the noise down, which worked. Saturday night was party zone from 9pm until 2am - with another burst of noise in the corridor, which I shut down myself at 5am. I couldn't be bothered to get up and get dressed again to find staff. As I left, a staff member explained that there were a lot of young people staying who wanted to party. Not a great excuse... They really need the night staff to do a regular patrol of the floors to keep the disturbance at a minimum. It's not a cheap hotel and 50% sleep isn't worth it. The Hermitage has a great location - central, but quiet area - but you really are at the mercy of the other guests. The place is a little run-down and could do with a bit of an investment - peeling floor laminates and chewed/worn details. Beds are great and comfortable. Day staff are lovely. Toilets are a little cramped, but the shower was great.
