Small, cramped hotel with a (typical Amsterdam) VERY steep and hazardous staircase. The staff are friendly and the bicycle storage is useful. However the room I had is tired and not very clean. The cleaning staff do not clean the room until you leave. Also the window in the room is either fully locked or open; there is no option to leave part of it open for during the day or at night. There is a sink in the room; which was useful and the breakfast consisting of 2 slices of bread to toast qith eggs you boil yourself or jam was ok. I suppose it was cheap (for Amsterdam) at 247 EUR for 3 nights but I would not stay there again. Hotels in Amsterdam tend to be full most of the time and they get away with offering a poor standard of accomodation at a high price because of this. I don't know how this hotel ended up with a rating of 4 out of 5 as I really don't think it has earned that rating.

The best part about the place was the staff. They were endlessly helpful and accommodating. Its obvious they work very hard to make sure every guest has what they need/want. The breakfast they offer is fine. I liked their orange juice a lot, and my mother enjoyed making her own eggs because she likes them very runny. The coffee machine is not very good quality though. The building also tilts, or feels tilted. This isn't something I think they have any real control over, I think old buildings in Amsterdam are often like this, and to some extent it was an interesting new experience. Personally I found it a little disconcerting.
