Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

We are DVC and bagged a room at the VGC in early August. First thing- the building and lobby and overall vibe are beautiful. The bell person who greeted us was outstanding, Sorry didn’t get his name but he’s 50s, slim guy, and extremely talkative and helpful, the true ‘Disney Difference’ type employee. Check in was a very slow and lengthy experience although the lady was very nice. Queues at 3pm. This could be speeded up. Room wasn’t obtained until just after 4. We had a disappointing outlook room, ground floor, corner, facing directly at back entrance to Californian Adventure. Security guards stood around and no real barrier for privacy so never sat on patio. However, we realised the room had some advantages in that you could be in the park in about 40 steps. Room was nice enough. Would I pay over $1000 a night for it cash? Not worth it but booked on points. They are getting so they need a refurb although still in decent shape. It was all very dark though, perhaps not helped by room position in bottom corner of hotel. Craftsman’s bar was a bit disappointing for food. It was OK quality but very, very slow at coming out. Mine was comped. The bar itself with live music is lovely though and cocktails good. Pool is beautiful but at the same time disappointing. It’s disappointing because there are not enough sun loungers. This is partly due to Disney greed, who have turned over about a third of the already too small pool area to paying cabanas. This is partly due to lack of management. They are meant to have wristbands on people, but half did not have them and half the time there were no staff on the gate to put them on. I personally witnessed at 8am a family coming in the front of the hotel who didn’t seem to be staying there (very easy to get in despite needing a key card as the gate is constantly opened onto the sidewalk) who I saw walk into the pool area, they had no card and waited for gate to open and went in. Disney can see from the reviews on Tripadvisor this pool seating issue is a major problem. They need to do something about it. If that includes removing the cabana area and taking a hit on upcharges, they need to do it. They need to get really strict on pool management and wrist bands. When you are paying this much for a hotel, not being able to get sun beds is totally unacceptable. Shame as pool itself is lovely and live music even in the day. The characters also seemed to plead daily at around 4 pm for a pool party. Gym great. The DVC team here here we’re very nice people. Obviously location is fantastic.

No seriously, talk to the manager if you have any issues at all with this hotel as soon as possible. My family and I did not have a good experience at this hotel due to some technical issues between the Anaheim Portofino and the 3rd party booking system. I even wrote a pretty scathing review that I have since deleted based on our experience. We didn't get the opportunity to stay here and therefore cannot comment on the accommodations. My 5 star review is solely based the incredible customer service I received from Mark, the General Manager of this hotel. After some back and forth via email, he convinced me to hop on the phone with him and I'm so glad I did (and wished I had done it sooner). I felt he was genuinely apologetic for what happened, would have helped us at the time if he had been there and went above and beyond to make it right. I got the impression that he genuinely cares and I'd even plan on staying here in the future after this interaction. It's my understanding that hotel changed ownership in April of 2022, so hopefully the reviews will continue to improve with Mark at the helm. I would recommend booking directly through the hotel and avoiding any 3rd party booking, specifically Priceline in my case. Priceline was extremely unhelpful and helped to make this situation worse than it should have been. If I had had the opportunity to discuss the situation with the GM sooner, I can imagine that our experience would have been drastically different. We are looking forward to a future stay.

Maritza Rocks!!! Anthony is Awesome!!! Adell is Cool!!! I needed to have my 3 rooms on the same floor and if possible to have 2 of them connect to each other. I understand how difficult it can be to have connecting rooms so I was hopeful. When I called, Maritza answered the phone and was SUPER friendly and willing to assist. I explained to her that I would be arriving by 2 PM and was hoping for the above as well as at least 1 room to have early check-in. Maritza not only took care of me, she amazed me!! She was able to secure 3 rooms on the same floor all close to each other and 2 of them were also connecting as requested. After that, she informed me that she could have all 3 rooms available for my early arrival as well. When I arrived Maritza was assisting another guest and Anthony checked me in. Anthony was also friendly and fun to engage with while completing the check-in process. Anthony is new to hotels and has been at this one for just about a year. You can really tell that his passion is hospitality. Adell was the 3rd team member that I had the pleasure of meeting while checking in. She has worked at another hotel before but is newer to this location and Sonesta. She too loves hospitality but enjoys wowing the guests after they come back from a long day at Disneyland. Update: my room lock stopped working and I had to call the desk for maintenance. It took 5 minutes and 11 seconds from me hanging up with the desk to maintenance fixing the lock. It took Maintance 2 minutes and 28 seconds to get the call from the desk and to come up to my room. Once he came up and saw what was needed it took him another 1 minute and 27 seconds to go back and retrieve tools and batteries to fix the lock. Once he had his tools He was able to fix the lock in 77 seconds. I am not sure if many will understand how great this is. I realize that responses aren’t typically this fast. However, a shoutout has to be made because they did this all in less than 6 minutes. That’s crazy!!!! Lastly, I have to shout out housekeeping for clean rooms. I always break down the room to inspect for bugs, dirt, or any other unwanted items. Not only were my 3 rooms super clean, they were dust free too! Great job to the Sonesta Anaheim for such a wonderful staff and leadership!!!

We’ve stayed at this hotel for the last seven years, each time we go to Disneyland. It’s definitely cheaper than staying on the park’s property, and the walk is no more than 10 minutes. However, despite our family being loyal customers, we have stayed there for the last time, and won’t be returning. As I mentioned, yes, it’s cheaper to stay here than on Disneyland property, but don’t be fooled. It is by no means CHEAP, just CHEAPER. You are still paying quite a hefty price for what has, sadly, become a mediocre at best hotel. In all the years we’ve stayed here, the hotel, to my knowledge, has never been updated— and it shows. Unfortunately, the hotel is now on the shabby side. The rooms are small, as is the bathroom. Annoyingly, they no longer offer maid service each day, and have downgraded to once every third day. While I understand pandemic policies, we had JUST come from staying at the beautiful nearby Westin Anaheim, which does offer daily maid service. Next, a word on their air conditioning units. The last 2 times we’ve stayed, the units have been unbearably loud — so much so that at the height of summer, we opted to keep it off in order for us to be able to sleep. I asked to trade rooms, thinking we’d just gotten unlucky, but it seems each room has the identical problem. That goes back to the updates I feel the hotel needs to make. Lastly, unlike some of the other hotels nearby, there is no free continental breakfast. Look, Disneyland is expensive. A free breakfast would go a long way with guests. No need for it to be fancy— something small would suffice. As I mentioned, we also stayed at the Westin Anaheim this trip. It’s slightly more expensive, but it feels much more luxurious — and it’s nearly as quick to walk to the parks. That’ll be our choice from now on.

This is our second time at the Camelot, and it was just as great this time (8 yrs later). We booked the ADA Family Suite because we were traveling with my 79 year old mother. I also had my daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren. We booked with my husband's military discount but he had to back out of the trip. Michelle was great and was still able to get us a good rate. The suite was great. It was clean and spacious with two handicap accessible bathrooms, one with a tub, the other with a shower. The staff was so friendly, although they didn't clean rooms daily because of Covid, they checked on us daily and made sure we were stocked up on everything. The beds were so comfortable, which is vitally important when you've been walking all day in the park! One Stop Mobility (located on the bottom floor) was amazing and provided my mom with a nice scooter that made it possible for her to get to Disneyland easily. The laundry room (also on the bottom floor) was small (3 washers 3 dryers) but no one was there so it wasn't a problem. The pool was saltwater and not very warm but not freezing either, There is a hot tub also. I love the proximity of the hotel to Disneyland. It is very close which is so important when you have a bunch of tired kids who just want to get into a warm shower and sleep. There is also a 24 hr McDonalds right next door, and a Panera Bread right next to that for breakfast or late night snack.

My husband and I snuck away for a quick trip to Disney. It happened to be the weekend that Disneyland closed down so we didn’t get to fulfill the entire trip. We opted to fly home a day early as we didn’t have much else to do in the rain, during the closures of activities. We asked one of the young men at the desk if we could check out early, and what their policy was on issuing credits for nights. (We were ok if we had to lose the last night, as it was our choice to leave early, but was curious if they had any exceptions during the pandemic time.) The first young man we spoke with told us that since we booked with another hotel site, they couldn’t do anything and to contact them. With a 4 hour wait, we were gonna just take the loss. Upon checkout the next morning, the front desk was able to edit our stay and credit us back a night, without even mentioning how we booked and told us that with all that was going on, they would handle it on their end. It did take him a few hours to get it all handled, but we did not mind at all. We appreciated the help during a time that is out of all our control. Because of this hospitality, we would stay here again. The room smelled clean, and the bed was comfortable. I wish they had more blankets and pillows offered in their rooms but not a deal breaker. The free breakfast was ok, pretty standard but the coffee was good and that is truly what matters in the morning. 😊 The location is about a 20 min walk to the park, depending on route you take. We didn’t mind but at the end of the night it felt longer, but for the price, and being just two adults, we managed. We have stayed here before and have been overall pleased both times. We would book here again on any future Disney trips.

During the course of our stay medications were stolen from our room. When discovered the matter was immediately brought to the attention of front desk staff, who did not really seem surprised or to care one bit. I later made contact with the guest service manager, who also did not really seem to care one bit about what happened and told me to call the police, which I had already done. The guest service manager later provided me with information that the only staff member who had been in our room during our stay was the houseman. The houseman had evidently been questioned by management and denied taking anything from the room, which is not surprising. The guest service manger told me there was no evidence to prove the houseman had taken anything nor was there evidence that we ever had the medication in the room. I took this as an insinuation that we were lying about the theft, which I found to be very offensive. When I called the house manager on her statement she began back peddling her statement and again told me to call the police. I don't think it really takes a rocket scientist to figure out where the medication went, since the only other people in our room were my wife, myself, and our two young children, and the houseman. My wife experienced a great deal of emotional angst and physical pain by being without her medication. She spent the good part of a day, that we were supposed to be enjoying at Disneyland, on the phone with her out of state doctor, insurance, and the local pharmacy to get the medication replaced. All in all the replacement medication cost us $107.00 out of pocket as well as the loss of a day at Disneyland, about $400.00. When the guest services manger was presented with this all she could say was there was nothing she could do and to call the police. She eventually provided me with a form to fill out that she was supposedly going to turn in to insurance, as of 10/19/22 we have heard nothing further from guest services mangager. When I asked to speak with guest services manager's supervisor she told me she did not have one and that she was the top person. I asked her if she owned the hotel and she told me she did. It seems as the owner of the hotel she could have done a lot to make the situation better. She could have offered to pay for the medications. She could have comped a nights stay. Saying there was nothing she could do and basically calling me and my wife liar was inexcusable and she is a sorry excuse for a ”Guest Services Manager.” I requested blankets the first night of our stay. None were brought to the room, ever. On day three I made a request for towels, toilet paper, and extra blankets. After none were brought to the room after an hour and 45 minutes I contacted the front desk again advising I needed the items immediately as I needed to poop and take a shower. Towels, toilet paper, and blankets were finally brought up to the room within 15 minutes. When I brought this up to guest serv

Stayed here for a week while visiting disneyland with family. We had two rooms booked both on the concierge level (18). We arrived at the hotel early around 1pm and were surprised that both our rooms were ready for early check in. Spent time at the hotel enjoying the club lounge and pool that day. Hotel was busy with conferences going on and a convention going on at the convention center. It felt crowded but the hotel was properly staffed. We never had to wait for food, drinks, or elevators. It was only a 15-20 minute walk to Disney or a quick walk and bus ride over that picks you up right by the Hilton and drops you off right at the gates to Disney. The club level was open Monday-Friday for grab and go drinks/snacks 6:30am to 10pm and Saturday/Sunday for grab and go drinks/snacks 12pm to 10pm. Breakfast daily, appetizers in the afternoon, and deserts at night. Saturday/Sunday full breakfast buffet in the restaurant. The staff in the club lounge were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. Overall we had a great stay and will definitely return in the future.

The Location of this hotel is awesome. The customer service is great. The room was clean and the bed was good. However the parking here is horrible. They have to move cars around so you can move your own . They are nice about it, but this is a huge inconvenience if you want to go anywhere you don’t have to walk to. Luckily we only had to move ours twice. The rooms are way to light at night. You might as well leave your lights on because it will seem like you did. The doors are not sealed correctly so light and cold air come through, luckily the air conditioner/ heater to work well. Also the no breakfast is a disappointment but it is what it is. We did not use the pool, it was to cold and rainy but it looked clean and decent.Overall if you are staying here for the location and a very easy walk to Disneyland you are good to go, If you are looking for better amenities this is probably not your hotel. I would stay here again for the location.

If your going to Disneyland this hotel is perfect. Your just across from the entrance and closer than some official Disney hotels. It also has parking which I was really worried about. It was so close we could go back to the room for an hour at midday rest recharge phones and go back in. Will stay again if going to Disney. Only issue no hairdryer in the room and it can be a little noisy at night as people come back from the park.

Ok the place is very busy (not a problem) but the staff there are very unknowledgeable and will pass you from one desk to another. All we got was “I am so sorry , I don’t know” on several attempts to get info, including price for Wi-Fi access in our room The rooms had cobwebs on the sprinkler and the lamp shades. I won’t be staying there again
