Hotels in Arkadi Reviews

We have stayed for 9 nights. We enjoyed the calm, the nice view from the hill, the swimming pool and a very large room. The lady who is running the complex is very polite and helpful. (3 adults and 1 child)

Our stay at the Kapsaliana Village Hotel was quite mitigated. In fact, we decided to shorten our stay as we realized once we arrived at the property that it was by no mean baby friendly as the hotel ensured at the time we made our reservation. By “no baby friendly” I mean that there are lots of stairs everywhere which by definition is not practical with a stroller and when we complained about it the answer had been “you should have known there were steps as it is an ancient village”.. Well that’s why I explicitly asked whether it was ok for a one week stay with a baby prior to make the reservation. Hence it would have been fair from their side to highlight this point instead of blaming us for not knowing. Also, the room we had (Olive Mill Suite) was extremely dark, once again not practical at all with a small baby but also not pleasant in general, especially when you aim to be in a sunny place like Crete. Here as well, I explicitly asked whether the room had enough daylight/windows since I could not see them from the pictures even though the room looked quite luminous on their website. They ensured there were several windows and plenty of daylight. Unfortunately this was far from reality as there is one very small window partially covered by the TV and another one on the living room ceiling (velux) which does not provide enough light in the bed area. Even with the artificial lights switched on, the room was still very dark. Hence the pictures on their website do not provide a truthful representation of what the luminosity of the room really looks like (see pictures we took ourselves). Knowing that the room rate was 450 EUR per night, this was a big letdown. When we complained about it they offered another room which was 1/4 the size of the one we were paying for and a room they usually don’t give away to clients. The only good point about that room was the private swimming pool (nice but very cold). But again lots of stairs to get there. So in the end we decided to shorten our stay by 3 nights. After several discussions with different people the hotel owner agreed to refund 1 night out of 3. In our opinion they should have refund the 3 nights given the information they gave us about the room and the baby-friendliness of the village were not accurate. Even though our experience has been rather negative, I would like to point out that the village was nice and quiet and the restaurant served good food. In a nutshell, here are the pros and cons we noticed: Pros: - Beautifully restored, quiet village - Food at the restaurant was good but very expensive - approx. 20 EUR for a main course and 8 EUR for a dessert which is very expensive for Greece - Bedding in the room was qualitative and comfortable - Staff was generally very nice and attentive apart from a front desk lady (do not remember her name, she has short black hair) who was very icy and completely ignored our comments when we first expressed our d
