Hotel Eden Roc - the Leading Hotels of the World

Oustanding! We just spent 4 nights here and would've stayed longer if we had more time during our trip to Switzerland. A magical paradise is the best description for this 5 star destination. Top notch rooms, linens, service, etc. Multiple pools, spas, gym, boating access, and incredible views on Lago Maggiore. Walking distance to shopping and downtown Ascona. Everything is amazing at Hotel Eden Roc, we will be back!!!

The great plus of the Eden Roc is its excellent peaceful, but still central lakefront location. The view from lakeside rooms, the restaurant or garden is stunning. The staff is friendly and helpful, but all in all the facilities have seen its best times quite a wild ago. We’ve got the impression it is overrated, but you pay for the location.

We had a top floor Jr. Suite (#401) which is on a corner with wonderful views in both directions of the town of Ascona and the lake. The room was quite spacious and has many comfortable sitting situations including the couch and several chairs and large table for dining (breakfast in the room!) Overall, a very functional room and bathroom. Hotel is spread out over 3 buildings with decorations in the numerous different lobbies quite whimsical and very contemporary art everywhere. There are three large pools heated to different temps, one for lap swimming at a comfortable 83 degrees F. and others warmer for less activity. The are 4 restaurants and we managed to enjoy meals at three of them saving La Brezza for our next visit. Each one is very different in their menu and approach to dining. The Marina restaurant was quite a fun and new experience and with good weather La Casetta will be open and is a ‘must visit’ offering a wonderful experience at the edge of the lake. Staff everywhere very friendly and helpful. We have stayed in the area 3 previous times and had not discovered the back side streets of Ascona. Wonderful small shops with art and clothing. All 10 minutes walk from the hotel. This hotel is on our list for our next trip to this area.

This hotel is amazing. It’s a five star hotel and they treat you like a star. Service is incredible! Hotel itself is funky and a little old fashioned. We stayed at the Marina side of it and it’s a bit weird and not modern but you forget about it by the way they take care of you. Beautiful view, pools and spa! Loved the experienced!

A gem of a resort in a magnificent setting with a gracious, professional staff. Beautiful hotel and top notch service. Very nice dining options too. The indoor/outdoor pool area is wonderful and leads to beautiful lake setting.

The Eden Roc hotel is situated in an enviable position in Ascona with direct frontage onto Lake Maggiore - its location couldn’t be better. The rooms and public areas are beautiful and stylish. The hotel has 3 swimming pools but the main pool ( near the restaurant) is not heated. The main issues with the hotel are the staff and the food. The latter is somewhat “boring”. We didn’t dine at La Brezza ( 2 star Michelin) because the menu looked contrived and we did not understand the “Moving Mountains” concept ( see below) when applied to the menu. We spoke to other guests who dined there who thought it was all hype and failed to deliver. Instead we dined in the main restaurant ( food very mediocre) or out ( we dined several times at Castello del Sol’s Locanda Barbarossa restaurant - 1 star Michelin- truly amazing food, beautiful setting and professional but friendly service). The staff at Eden Roc were totally impersonal and disinterested. No effort was made to remember your names (until we commented on it) or preferences - each morning they asked what we wanted to drink and each morning we said the same but they still brought it out incorrectly. I had stayed at the hotel several times in the past and whilst I would not expect anyone to remember me I would have expected some acknowledgement that I had stayed at the hotel before. The management team do not interact with the guests. Not once did the GM say “hello” despite being on duty whilst we were there. However, the biggest issue is the smoking. I appreciate that the smoking rules in Switzerland are different to the UK, but smoke seemed to permeate throughout the hotel- on the restaurant terraces, on the bar terrace, inside the lobby ( since the windows in the bar were open), on your bedroom balcony ( where guests in the next room were smoking). Cigars and cigarettes everywhere - it’s like a giant ashtray - and this is why I think the “Moving Mountains” concept is a load of hype. The hotel extols the virtues of the fresh mountain air, quite rightly, but sadly it is polluted by cigarette and cigar smoke. Overall, I feel that since I lasted stayed at the hotel the standards have dropped.

I was eyeing this hotel for a while as it is difficult to find the room in summer time. However managed to visit in Oct'22. The hotel is luxury, in a very beautiful setting with marina at Lake Maggiore steps away. Conveniently located close to Ascona city center, 25-30min drive (complimentary shuttle provided by hotel) to Locarno train station. Surroundings are very picturesque. I stayed at single room, and while picturesque, clean and comfortable, some noise in the room (perhaps of technical in nature) did not create super comfortable quiet sleeping environment. Otherwise, everything was superb. The spa is excellent, with pool opening into outdoor pool and view of the mountains. Spa treatments were superb (Nikoletta and another Austrian girl (sorry i forgot her name!) were excellent). Hotel has several dining options, Marina is great, and also tried superb La Brezza cuisine (Michelin 1 star restaurant). Breakfast was complimentary due to LHW membership and was excellent with magnificent views. Ascona has some gorgeous hike views with only short walking distance from the hotel. Restaurants/banks/shops are also within super short walking distance. Lake Maggiore offers scenic boat trips but i did not try it this time, only a hike to Monte Verita, and it was unforgettable. Hope to be back.

The hotel is such a spectacular place to visit. We were overly impressed by the hospitality, service and general vibe of the hotel. Everything was done with the utmost care and attention to detail. The staff were extremely polite, and helpful and carried themselves in a professional manner. The location was perfect and so close to the city square. The use of amenities and services were amazing. There is nothing more that I would expect from this hotel. It was perfect and can't wait to come back. This is a must stop for anyone visiting the area.

It was an extremely relaxing experience, helped by a beautiful room, great pool and even greater access to the lake, but above all very special service, from check-in to concierge to pool to restaurants etc. Always friendly and always very helpful. We have been to Ascona a number of times before and we love the place but staying at the Eden Roc was the cherry on the cake!
