We have been meaning to visit here for some time living locally and tonight as a last minute decision we went here. WOW - what incredible food, the tastiest curries we have ever had. We are full to bursting as we had to try out desert too! Highly recommend the masala chips too! We will certainly be back and have the takeaway menu tucked in our back pockets also! Fantastic staff also who are friendly and knowledgeable! So glad we’ve finally been and will be new regulars for sure!

Absolutely love this pub! Such a beautiful location and lovely traditional feel, but not old fashioned. Good selection of ales, including Plum Porter which is a particular fave. The game pie was to die for, fabulous chips. But the best part was the ambience and customer service. You really need to bottle this and share with other establishments as it's so rare right now. The team are a real credit to you - friendly, fun and professional. Can't wait for my overnight stay later this month.

Terrible! We ordered two sandwiches which didn't arrive. We checked with the bar staff after 30 minutes and they said the order hadn't been sent to kitchen . They hardly apologized and begrudgingly gave us a refund. Will never return.

Had the most excellent meal for 6 of us after a walk at Thorpe Cloud/Dovedale. Fabulous menu full of favourites and more interesting dishes. Ordered fish & chips, pork belly, butter chicken, burgers and pie. All were delicious. Puddings were great too. Lovely atmosphere with really friendly staff and a cosy fire. Highly recommend

We’ve been eating and drinking at The Oakover for a number of years now, and I believe it’s under new management. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, there’s a HUGE beer garden, and the pub is dog friendly. We went along yesterday for their curry night, and wow, their starter and mains were exceptional, would recommend.

I do not like leaving negative feedback but we had an almost fawlty towers like experience here. The absolute & only saving grace was the staff. Every single member of staff was courteous, pleasant & welcoming. The girl on breakfast duty had to help us with a problem with the shower … she was running the show as other staff off or sick & the pub closes on Mondays. She was brilliant & turned out a very good & hearty breakfast for us. The evening food we had was quite good ( Sunday roast) but my husband felt that the meat portions were very small but all else was ok. We were put in the family room so much was not to our taste ( rabbits on the bedding & cuddly toys) but because of a serious plumbing problem affecting the other rooms we had no choice. The bathroom is seriously outdated & was not clean enough. It’s obvious that this place has massive potential & the setting is beautiful with a glorious Italian style church right next door to the pub in this charming area. I understand that the new owners haven’t been in there long & have encountered quite a few problems & l do hope they manage to pull everything together.

Stayed on car park in motorhome. Friendly welcome by young engaging staff. Good menu at reasonable prices. Had a delicious evening meal. They a.so serve breakfasts from about 8am. Large garden at rear with ample seating. Some lovely walks nearby. Good free WiFi. Dog friendly and have treats. Worth a return visit.

We've just left after a two night stay and were so impressed we're actually bothering to write a review! We stayed in the family room ready for a two day trip to Alton Towers. The room - huge comfy bed for us, and the kids, who had their own adjoining room, had twin singles. There was also a bathroom with a big shower in. It was nice and clean, with tea and coffee bits, and we were given fresh milk to go with it. The restaurant - we had two breakfasts and one evening meal. Everything was cooked fresh, so if you're looking for fast food you won't get that here, but every meal was so worth the wait. There's also a bar and a beer garden with a small play area which the kids loved. The staff - I've never met such a friendly bunch, and I think a lot of them were related so it's a nice family affair. Nothing was too much trouble, they were chatty and welcoming, and you were made to feel at home. If you're going to Alton Towers it's about 15-20 minutes in the car, so great after a long day out. We'd definitely recommend it over the usual Premier Inn option we normally go for when we travel for family days out. It's not 5 star but it isn't trying to be, just a nice comfortable place to stop over for the night.
