Rheinhotel Lamm

Just returned from staying at Rheinhotel Lamm in Assmannshausen for four days. The location of the hotel is superb with our comfort plus room on second floor, overlooking the Rhine. The room was spotlessly clean, very spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast was very good . The staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly Marco the owner. We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel and perhaps one day, will return for another holiday.

The hotel was on an historic part of the Rhine River and had a lot of cruises and things to do. Food at the hotel was good. Breakfast was good as well !

Great hotel with beautiful balcony views. The staff could not have been any more accommodating. Ate dinner in restaurant 2 of the days and food was great. Breakfast buffet was good way to start a day of exploring.

Nice room although we paid extra for it. Food was awful, lacking in imagination and choice. The menus for the following day presented on slips of paper - hand cut after photocopying. Unprofessional. Had to ask that the lumpy and aged bottom bed sheet be changed to a smooth cotton one. Location not wonderful. Very isolated with lack of choice - hotels seem to close at 8 pm leaving the Lamm sole proprietor of food and drink in the village! Wouldn't stay there if you paid me!

I would normally rate this hotel a 3 or 4. Great location, breakfast was good. River view was excellent, and room was spacious. Assmannshausen is a nice location on the Rhein river with excellent boat cruise access. However, many months before our journey we had booked an allergy free room as pictured on their site, ie. hardwood floors. When we entered our room it had short shag carpet. When we reported the problem the attendant was insistent it was an allergy free room, though not the pictured one. He claimed it was reviewed by the German authorities. As a long term allergy sufferer (as is my wife), and a doctor myself, I felt very certain I was being lied to. Dust mites love carpet, and every allergist I have met would say to rip it out. We made do and woke up with a skin outbreak (my wife) and me with a completely blood shot and itchy eye. Frankly, I felt like they had screwed up and double booked rooms. I felt they were incapable of admitting a mistake and apologizing. Instead I received what felt like dishonesty. If you are in a similar circumstance to us, buyer beware.

Lovely hotel, right next to the Rhine. We had a first floor room with a balcony, which was great. Lots of space, electric bed, brilliant views. Food very nice, we ate on the terrace a few times. Free guest parking. Easy access to lots of interesting places. We had a great time here, and would definitely return to this hotel.

Lovely hotel overlooking the river Rhine. We visited as part of a group. We stayed in a lovely room overlooking the river, it was comfortable, clean and had air conditioning and a coffee maker. The food was very good with the typical German buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. The evening meal was also good with three courses and coffee. The staff were friendly and spoke excellent English. A great place to stay.

If you are going to splurge even just a little on a moderate travel budget, this is the place. We booked a top-floor room with a balcony that overlooks the Rhine; unlike many hotels in other villages, this one does not have a busy railroad running directly in front. The view instead is the river, the many cruise and commercial boats passing before you in both directions, and Rheinstein Castle on the other side. It is a great place to spend a few hours on the balcony with a beer or glass of wine and just take it all in. Assmannshausen is much quieter and far less touristy than nearby Ruedesheim, something we look upon as a definite plus. The family that owns and operates the hotel works hard to keep it clean and orderly, the included breakfast is more than ample, and the dinners were quite good. In addition, the staff offered plenty of helpful information and advice in print and in person to help us best plan our time in the region. Of all the places we stayed during two weeks in Germany and Alsace, this is the among the first I would first return to.
