Awesome Place Hotel

DO NOT RECOMMEND. I had booked 4 nights but only ended staying for 1. The biggest problem is access to the hotel. Our driver had rang a week prior to check if there was good access for his car and despite them confirming that there was, they told him on the day that he wouldn't be able to take us all the way due to the bad roads. Reading the reviews it turns out many other had the same issue and this is a permanent problem. You need to take a terrifying tuk-tuk ride along the cliff to get to the hotel and its takes more than 30 minutes to actually reach the center of Ella if you can get someone to agree to take you. There is nothing around and once you're there you are pretty much stuck. The food at the restaurant is slow, terrible and incredibly expensive but you have no choice as there are no other options. The shower is cold and the rooms are not as nice as in the pictures, pretty basic and no a/c. The service from the staff at the hotel was great but the management was the worst that I have experienced in Sri Lanka. Despite explaining that we had booked after being lied to about the road conditions and we would have to leave as we didn't want to spend 4 nights isolated and stuck at the top of a mountain, they refused to give us any form of refund. Moving to a hotel in town was definitely worth it to experience Ella. The best thing about this place is the view which is lovely but only on a clear day.

In a word- don’t. The people were lovely, the rooms was amazing however there isn’t a restaurant. We arrived off the train, the road is waged out. We struggled to get a tuk tuk that would take us and they asked a hefty price. We had booked a car for the next day and had to get a tuk tuk to the car because of the state of the road. For dinner they provided cold white rice and condiments. On leaving they asked for 2500 rupees per person. They had a brilliant looking pool and the bored when it stopped raining were beautiful but it was really expensive considering the 40 min drive to Ella and difficulty in getting anyone to come and get you. Make sure you take snacks, drinks, etc and use it as a secluded get away. Maybe it’s different at other times of the year but clearly they are having trouble because we needed to pay so he could pay his internet bill etc as they hadn’t had guests for quite some time. Disappointing that our booking provider didn’t tell us that the property had been withdrawn from the site. I feel bad for the people running it. They were really nice and tried so hard but it’s way overpriced and not at all convenient

This place is really one awesome place! Could even say the perfect place. Its a calm accomodation with a breathtaking view! The beds are really comfortable and the room is the perfect size! The bathroom looks really nice and is very original. And the staff are really kind, especially the owner. They are very hospitable. My sister got sick when we got here because of some food thing. And she got treated really nice. The owner prepared some food and drinks for her that would help her. She god drinks and some fruit to get better. He even fixed one more night for us because she didn't feel great. The owner and this place deserves so much recommendation. Absolute 10/10

We are now traveling through Sri Lanka and after an intensive program we had a lovely relaxing 2-night stay in Ella at Awesome Place Hotel . We really wanted to share this, what a nice and relaxing place with a fantastic view this is. It is about half an hour from Ella and you do have to brave a bumpy road, but it is well worth it! We had the best food in all of Sri Lanka here and "dined" in the company of fireflies. And during the day we enjoyed the view from the pool! The staff is friendly and willing to help. They also did our laundry. For us this was a relaxing and very nice stay!

Amazing Hotel. Located in the middle of a beautiful nature. Big rooms 2 Queens beds in each room, swimming pool. Only 3 rooms so you get the best service. What ever we asked they provide with a smile. The service was amazing they were so nice. A great place for romantic vacation or even for families. Great food,

Definitely the most awesome looking place in Ella - in terms of the decor and the views. The bathrooms are amazing looking and have such character. Kudos to the manager who decided to give it such personality. The manager is also a very nice and amenable person, we had some issues with his staff (which I can't see happening again - as he was away at the time and very distressed to hear about their behaviour on his return). I believe he listens and takes on board all his is told and so I have given the place 10 out of 10 as a result. It's a true hidden gem and feels like a seriously cool European, high star hotel boutique. for the price the value is next level and the beds are gorgeous. It is a little out the way - but that's why it's a romantic gem, and a tuk tuk there and back would be appreciated as standard. You get to see some really cool sights on the journey though - including an amazing village lit up like a rainbow a night! Would highly recommend for one of the most unique places in Sri Lanka - and for some awesome photos to show off to your friends!

Now I have to say the manager of this place is wonderful, the decor is the best in Ella (it looks like a unique 5 star London boutique) and the views are next level. However I do have to point out it is a nearly 20 dollar return tuktuk ride in and out of Ella so better for peace and quiet than partying , and we had an occasion when the driver even refused to take us the full distance - so in the middle of the night had to walk down a dirt path (currently being made) in the pitch black with strange men popping out of the bushes for about 10 minutes to get back. This isn't their fault but I think a free tuk tuk there and back is required for the price. Again, nothing on the trusting manager as he has an eye for decor and beauty and created stunning rooms - but we sadly visited when he was away and his staff were not so good - bringing friends over to dive bomb in to the pool, party heavily in the room above us without him knowing and basically doing nothing to help us get what we needed. Really disappointing employees and I truly hope their jobs are reassessed and I am sad for an obviously trusting manager. HOWEVER we spoke to the manager and he was devastated, and I sincerely believe is going to work to improve this and, when done, it will be one of the most innovative and striking boutiques in Ella that should be a must see for anyone choosing to visit. With different/better trained staff, and in a few months when the road is smoother, I'd have given this place a 10/5 and would recommend you just go to see somewhere so interesting and full of character!

I have to warn all of the tourists who might have a contact with mr Ayesh, who is the owner of the hotel. He is showing himself as a very friendly and spiritual person. I trusted him. While I was visited his place he bought from me some handicraft item for his hotel. Despite the large discount that I gave him I've never recived money that we agreeded for. He kept lying for many months. We shouldn't support business of people like this. Im sorry to say but there are many honest people in Ella who are can provide you accomodation without trying to cheat you.

We went to awesome place over Christmas and we just had the best time at this amazing place. Yes the road there is bumpy and you need a tuktuk for the 20/25 min drive to Ella but it’s so worth it. We had the best view and total quiet. The rooms are big and clean, and the bed is very comfortable. Perfect if you want to relaxe and just enjoy Ella. Kris is a very nice and helpful host. Next time we are in Sri Lanka we will come back for sure!
