This hotel is new, opened in August 2024. It used to be an apartment building, renovated and converted to a long-stay hotel. It feels a bit more posh than the other MEAs I have stayed in Bangkok before, the hardware is clearly a step above including Japanese toilet self-flush with heated seat, but unsurprisingly is generally one of the most expensive of the 6 MEAs in the city, if not the most expensive depending on dates. Unlike the others where we stayed, no upgrade granted as Ambassador Elite guest (despite wide open availability) so they stick to Terms & Conditions of Marriott Bonvoy which excludes MEAs from the upgrade program. That said, their rigid stance makes them a bit uncompetitive relative to others. Unlike upgrades, they gave free breakfast despite not having to do it so that’s in line with other MEAs. Considering the neighborhood, it was appropriate to have a Japanese slant to the buffet, but otherwise not memorable, dishes not refilled quickly and service hit and miss. Service was better at the concierge desk which was very helpful arranging shipment of various packages.

The rooms are beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay. The location is really good especially when moving around by the BTS skytrain. Had some issues with wifi on our first night but this was resolved within couple hours after informing the staff about the issue. The cleaners did a great job and made our stay convenient and comfortable. The gym had all of the basic equipments needed for getting workout done. There’s some room for improvement when it comes to the TV setup. Would be nice to be able to use streaming services on the TV which isn’t possible at the moment.

The Madi Paidi’s infrastructure was top-class but what distinguishes a hotel is often the soft product. In this aspect, the Madi Paidi team were truly exceptional. They never failed to greet me with their warm smiles, as well as proactively offer assistance. When I made a small request to get a more suitable pillow, they not only offered four to me, but had all four brought to my room for me to test and try. When I went to the swimming pool on a blazing hot day, the pool attendant was kind enough to offer ice water. When I struggled with heavy luggage, the staff came to my rescue. All of them were so kind and helpful, and I would like to especially mention Kevin who was so friendly, made great food recommendations and was so hospitable that I really felt “looked after” as a guest. This has unquestionably been my best hotel experience in Thailand, and I am looking forward to returning here.

Very good stay at this serviced apartment/condo. Little bit on the not so good as to be realistic, the living room with the sofa could do with more charging points near the sofa and take note this is not really a hotel and more like a condo so make up room services end at four which is not an issue for me. The location is also not really near BTS. Other than that it was a superb stay as the staff there take care of me very well. Always greet me with a smile and as I drove this time, there were always parking available though they don’t have many slots. They would open the door for me however late at night and guide me to parking. The place was very nice and cosy and spacious. If you need more cutlery or any other supplies just call reception. There is a washing machine and cooking area which works out really well. Special mention to staff like Ju and Eak who gave world class service. I left a big tip when I checked out asking the reception to share them with all staff members (she told me there were 12 of them including security guards) and hope she managed to share with the whole team. Would definitely consider this place again for my long term stay next time. Highly recommended!

Inspite of the Google reviews not being so positive, we thought the hotel was not bad especially for the price we paid for 4 days. Had all the amenities and the room looked nice too. We didn’t hear any noises from the nearby club at night. Definitely an older hotel but it’s got a charm to it. Room service and hotel staff were always quick to help when needed. We got their breakfast on the last day and it was one of the tastiest pad Thai I’ve had, along with many more breakfast options. Loved we had a washer/dryer in our room and it worked pretty well. Wish they had given us a small sachet of laundry detergent so that we don’t have to buy one only to waste it. Finding a Grab was not too bad to and from Bangkok downtown. Never got to check the pool or the gym because we were too jet lagged but looked good in the pics. We would definitely recommend this

Hotel is very clean, the outlook is small but room is decently spacious. They have everything inside, like even mircowave, pyjamas, cutlery and a super large fridge. However for a 5-Star hotel we were expecting a better hair dryer. Had a slight problem with the bathroom, the water draining system was too slow and in result after each shower our toilet is flooded. My friend didnt bring along slippers and only had the bedroom slippers the hotel provided, hence it’s quite frustrating for her towards the wet floor. BTS thonglor is about 5-6 mins walk. 7-11 is about 3-4 mins walk. Is very dark during the night and there isnt much people around the road side, so it might seemed a bit unsafe. We couldnt find or see any massage parlour nearby, but as per the staff is just few mins walk away from hotel.  Overall still a decent good value 5 star hotel.

This is a good choice for family travelers. The location is around 10 minutes by foot to the nearest BTS Thonglor station, hotel offers free shuttle as well, but please check the timetable. We love the washing machine in the room which comes in very handy for the Bangkok hot weather. Breakfast is good with many choices to suit most people. We had the pleasure in joining the Friday afternoon happy hours session which was excellent - we had some snacks and hot drinks, all very nice to have! We used the outdoor pool and the onsen, which were nice to have! The hotel staff we came across were all very friendly and were attentive to any inquiries we had during our stay. We'd love to come and stay here again in our next Bangkok trip. Thank you.

Since I arrived, I found the interior and exterior design are modern and luxury. The hotel itself is not that big (very small, actually) compared to other IC standard, that's why the swimming pool have only 3 sunbeds but the view is a sight to behold. Fitness center also small which 4 people inside I felt it was full already. But with those cons I mentioned, the services from staff that made me turn blinded eye to them. (I am sorry, I do not remember some of thier name) 2 concierges officers (the lady and the guy) who wearing red uniform greeted me with smile then I escorted to the club lounge for check in. The club lounge officer who assisted me with check in is very friendly. I also met him during the breakfast, we had a nice conversation about food and drink. At AVA Brasseries, I was welcomed by Khun Natchinee and Khun Opal. They are friendly and helpful. I was alone there but I did not feel lonely at all. I ordered Khao Soi chicken. It was tasty, taste like original from northern. Down to lobby, I had some coffee from The Lobby bar. Khun Bom and Khun Prapas was there at the time, made me a coffee. They know how to entertain guest, I spent sometimes with them chit chat like 40 mins. Khun Palm the bellman also help me get a transportation. He is very helpful and have a good knowledge in the neighborhood. During the evening, I went to Rogues for a drink. At first, I thought I will have just 1 galss of cocktail but with Khun Kong as a bartender, I cannot stop drinking and end up with 3 glasses of signature cocktails. I will come back to see those guys again in near future.

Bangkok Thong Lo Hotel Guide

Bangkok Travel Guide

Bangkok is Thailand’s capital and the pulse of Southeast Asia. Built along the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok used to get around on a network of canals, earning it the nickname “Venice of the East.”

In Bangkok, you’ve got glittering temples like Wat Arun and Wat Pho sitting right next to shiny skyscrapers and giant malls like IconSiam. The streets are buzzing with food carts slinging spicy noodles, and night markets where you can shop for everything from knock-off sneakers to weird snacks you didn’t know you needed.

No matter if you’re slurping on boat noodles, cruising the river, or catching the sunset from a rooftop bar, Bangkok’s got a way of pulling you in. It’s messy, magical, and somehow always makes you want to come back for more.

Getting to Bangkok

So, you’re headed to Bangkok—awesome choice! Getting there is pretty easy since the city’s got two airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK).

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is the main one, located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of the city center. It’s where most international flights land. It’s shiny, modern, and well-organized, with loads of shops, cafes, and lounges. If you’re flying in from Europe, North America, or anywhere long-haul, this is probably where you’ll arrive. From the airport, getting into the city is easy:

  • Taxis: Expect to pay around 400–500 THB (about $12–15 USD), and they’ll add a small fee for luggage.
  • Airport Rail Link: It’s fast, cheap, and connects directly to the BTS Skytrain, which is perfect if you’re traveling light.

If you’re catching a red-eye flight, I suggest staying near Suvarnabhumi Airport for convenience. These hotels offer free shuttle services to and from the airport, making those early mornings or late arrivals much easier.

Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of downtown Bangkok and handles mostly budget airlines like AirAsia and Nok Air. It’s an older airport and it’s great if you’re coming from nearby countries or taking domestic flights.

Getting Around Bangkok

Getting around Bangkok might seem tricky at first, but once you figure out the flow, it’s actually pretty exciting.

  • BTS Skytrain & MRT Subway: These are absolute lifesavers. They’re fast, air-conditioned, and easy to use, covering most of the main spots like Sukhumvit, Siam, and Chatuchak Market. Plus, no sitting in traffic! Grab a Rabbit Card to make things even simpler.
  • River Ferries: Want a break from the hustle and bustle? The ferries on the Chao Phraya River are a game-changer. They’re cheap, relaxing, and take you to landmarks like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun.
  • Tuk-Tuks: You can’t visit Bangkok without hopping into one of these iconic three-wheelers. They’re fun for short trips, but make sure to negotiate the fare before you get in—drivers love a good haggle!
  • Taxis & Grab: Taxis are fine, but Bangkok traffic can make even short rides feel endless. Download the Grab app (Thailand’s version of Uber) for convenience and fair pricing—no awkward negotiations required.
  • Motorbike Taxis: If you’re in a hurry (or feeling adventurous), motorbike taxis are the way to go. Just hold on tight and make sure they give you a helmet.

Top Things to Do in Bangkok

Bangkok is chaotic, colorful, and so much fun. This delulu city guarantees you’ll leave with stories to tell!

1. The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew

The Grand Palace is Bangkok’s most famous landmark, and for good reason. This 18th-century royal palace is incredible, with intricate architecture and remarkable courtyards. Inside, you’ll find Wat Phra Kaew, home to the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most sacred statue.

Pro Tip: Your ticket also gets you into the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, which is cool (literally—hello, AC!) and worth a quick stop.

2. Wat Pho

Just down the road, you’ve got Wat Pho, home to the massive Reclining Buddha that’s 150 feet of pure gold-plated glory. The temple grounds are beautiful, and if you’re up for it, you can grab a massage at the on-site Thai massage. Trust me, it’s worth it.

3. Chinatown

Chinatown is a feast for the senses. No matter if you’re here for the amazing street food, gold shops, or temples, this neighborhood never disappoints. The main drag, Yaowarat Road, comes alive at night with food carts dishing out everything from roast duck to sticky rice with mango.

If you’re visiting during Chinese New Year, expect exciting parades, dragon dances, and even more delicious food. Don’t forget to duck into a side alley—you never know what treasure you’ll find.

4. Dinner Cruise on the Chao Phraya River

Want to see Bangkok lit up at night? Hop on a dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya River. You’ve got options: a classy teakwood boat for a romantic vibe or a lively catamaran with buffet and entertainment. Either way, the breeze and the views of illuminated temples and bridges make it worth your evening.

5. Muay Thai Match

If you’re up for some adrenaline, check out a muay Thai fight. The crowd energy is wild, and the matches are fast-paced and intense. Head to Rajadamnern Stadium for a classic vibe or Lumpinee for something more modern.

Better to Know Before Visiting Bangkok

Before planing the trip to Bangkok, it's good to keep a few things in mind.

CategoryDetails
WeatherHot and humid year-round. Rainy season: May–October. Dry season: November–February. Pack light clothing and a raincoat or umbrella.
CurrencyThai Baht (THB). Have cash for small vendors and taxis. Credit cards widely accepted. Plenty of ATMs and exchange booths available.
TransportationUse BTS Skytrain or MRT Subway to avoid traffic. Taxis are affordable (ensure the meter is used). Tuk-tuks are fun—agree on a price before the ride.
Cultural RespectDress modestly at temples (cover shoulders and knees). Avoid touching heads or pointing feet at people, as these gestures are disrespectful.
Street FoodMust-try! Pick busy vendors for freshness. Avoid uncooked food to prevent food poisoning.

Time in Bangkok

Bangkok is in the Indochina Time Zone (ICT), which is UTC+7.

  • London (UK): Bangkok is 7 hours ahead.
  • New York (NYC): Bangkok is 12 hours ahead. Noon in Bangkok means it’s midnight in New York.
  • Singapore (SG): Same time as Bangkok, no difference.
  • Sydney (Australia): Bangkok is 4 hours behind. An afternoon in Bangkok is already evening in Australia.

Best Time to Visit Bangkok

The best time to visit Bangkok is from November to February, when the weather is cooler and more comfortable, with temperatures around 25–35°C. This is peak tourist season, so expect crowds, especially in December and January. November is a highlight with the Loi Krathong Festival, a beautiful tradition of floating lanterns on rivers.

From March to June, Bangkok gets hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C. April stands out for the Songkran Festival, a lively Thai New Year celebration with citywide water fights.

The rainy season runs from July to October, with September seeing the heaviest rain and occasional flooding. While it’s less busy and more affordable, it’s not ideal for outdoor activities. By late October, the rain eases, and the weather starts to clear up, making November a perfect time to visit.
